Hot. I'm hot and sweaty and there's something...heavy...on my body. Holding me down. I can't feel my left arm.
"Bobby?" It's Rogue, outside the tent and doing her best to knock on the canvas door. I can see her silhouette in the early morning sun, gaining and regaining on itself as her movements cause the tent to sway back and forth.
I jerk up, scooting backwards to sit upright and practically falling over in doing so. Arm's asleep, I guess. John is lying beside me, his face to the wall and his mouth open a little as he sleeps. I allow myself the brief pleasure of scanning his smooth, naked chest--he's pretty well covered up from the waist down--before yanking on my boxers and fumbling for a pair of jeans. What the fuck happened last night? Part of me believes it was just a weird dream, but the fact that I woke up nude indicates otherwise.
"Bobby!" She's getting impatient now.
"Hold on a second, Rogue." At least she has the sense not to burst into the tent uninvited. Either that, or there isn't a zipper on the outside. I'm not sure. "Just...give me a second."
Yeah, everything's in place. John's covered up and I don't have his boxers on my head or anything. I quietly unzip the tent door and slip outside. The morning air feels fresh and cool and sweet on my face and I'm struck with the impression that I'm some kinda flower all sprinkled with morning dew.
Rogue crouches before me, still wearing the old clothes I gave her back at my parents' house. "What took you so long?"
I think she's mad at first but then she just can't keep it up. Her face splits into a big, toothy grin and I can't help thinking how damn pretty she is. "C'mon, Bobby, there're fish jumpin' around in the lake. Come see before the sun gets all high and scares 'em into the depths, huh?" She takes my hand, tugs impatiently.
"I--uh--one minute." One minute? For what? Was I planning to kiss John goodbye before I left or something?
"One minute?" Rogue said, echoing my thoughts. "Whaddya need one minute for?"
I laugh nervously and stand to follow her. "Nothing. Let's go."
