"Beißt er?"1
"Woher soll ich das wissen?" The taller girl paused and eyed Logan assessingly. "Ich glaube nicht!"2
A thin, lisping voice piped up, "Er sieht nett aus,"3 then with all the authority her young self could muster, she addressed Logan, "Wer sind Sie und warum halten Sie ein Plakat mit unseren Namen darauf?"4
The man sighed inwardly and tucked the placard under his arm. "I'm Logan, Kitty's...well, her foster father. Which one of you is which?"
The first girl who had spoken, the tallest therefore, Logan assumed, the oldest, said "How do you know we speak English? For all you know, we don't know a whit."
The lisping girl elbowed her. "Ninny. You just _spoke _ English, that's how he knows!"
The middle girl, eyes wide, murmured, "_Beißen _ Sie?"5
Logan fought the grin tugging his l "O "Only if I haven't had my coffee. You girls got everything?" There was a massive pile of luggage behind them that a weary skycap had dumped from his dolly. "Or did you forget the kitchen sink?"
The tallest girl snorted in a fair approximation of hlderlder brother. "You are a funny man. Anyone ever tell you that? I'm Katja. This, " she tugged the second-tallest girl forward, "is Anja. And munchkin here is Erika."
Logan nodded. "Nice to meet ya...Let's get you loaded up. There's someone at the Institute anxious to meet you..."
"You mean Kitty?" Erika trilled. "She sounds very nice from Kurt's letters and from what Mama has told us! Is she nice? Kurt says she's pretty...I'll bet she's prettier than that Amara girl we heard about. Does Amara look like a troll? I think she should..."
Katja clapped a hand over her sister's mouth. "Pardon her. The stewardess actually let her have coffee. Three times."
Logan groaned. _Great. Trapped in a car with three female versions of the Elf and one of them is hyper...wahoo. _ Opening the side door of the van, he swept a bow. "Ladies..." Amid a chorus of giggles, the Wagner girls piled into the Institute's van. Logan shut the door with a shove and groaned aloud this time. _I can fight Sabertooth and win, I can eat Half-Pint's cooking, I can face down Scooter when he's in a snit...I can do this. _

Kitty jittered by the window like a cat in a room full of rocking chairs. Every time there was the slightest sound from outside, she would press her face to the glass and peer out into the morning, looking for signs of Logan's return with her guests. "Katzchen?"
"What? I wasn't doing anything! Stop being aranaranoid!" she cried in a rush, whirling to face Kurt's confused expression.
"I was, um, just going to ask if you wanted to come to town with some of us. We need to get groceries for tomorrow. I'm making strudel!"
They had each been assigned a portion of the meal to help with, Kitty remembered in a flash. She and Kurt had both drawn the desert cards, making Storm sigh in anticipation of the headache to come. "Damn. I forgot all about that..." Kitty bit her lip and favored Kurt with her best doe-eyed expression. "Baby, if I give you a list and some money, will you pick some things up for me?"
Kurt looked apprehensive. "They aren't _girly _ things, are they? I'll get them, but I want some warning!"
"No, no! Just ingredients...I have to stay and...um...take care of...things...with...people..." she mumbled, twirling her fingers in her hair. "You sure you don't mind?"
Kurt narrowed his eyes, making a mental note to make sure Lance was partthe the foray into town. "I don't mind, Liebes...what're you going to make?"
"Well," she said "I'm good with tzimmies...but that's not really Thanksgiving-y, is it?"
"We could eat that cake you made yesterday," he said hopefully. "Chocolate is my _favorite... _ " he said, leaning in close and batting his eyelashes.
"Kurt! That's for...something else." Kitty shifted her gaze, knowing the effect Kurt had on her at close range. "Tzimmies it is, then..."
"What's the cake for?" he asked as she ducked around him to write the list on the kitchen pad. "Someone's birthday I forgot?"
"Nothing like that...just...for an occasion." _Stop asking, stop asking... _ She folded the list in half and sidled up to him, sliding her arms around his waist to tuck the paper into his back pocket. "You'll get some later."
Kurt caught the double entendre and sucked in his breath, willing certain bodily responses not to happen. "Promise?" he husked.
"Mmm-hmmmm..." Kitty stood or tor toes and pressed a kiss to his cheek before guiding his chin so that their mouths touched. "Jean says you boys are making nice..." she murmured, pulling away a fraction of an inch.
"Did she tell you what we were doing?" Kurt worried. _This could be embarrassing. I'm not even going to ask how Jean knew...there's some things you have to accept when you live with teeps... _
"No," Kitty lied, nuzzling his throat. Footsteps thudded down the stairs so she broke away regretfully. "We'll talk later, 'kay?"
"Ja...later," he sighed as she trotted out of the room and up the stairs, her nervous energy almost tangible. _I wonder what she's up to? _
Before Kurt could dwell too heavily on it, Lance strolled into the room and shoved a twenty at Kurt. "Here...Kit said to give you this."
"Oh...um, danke." Kurt frowned a little and tucked the money into his pocket. _Couldn't hurt... _ "Lance, come to the store with us...I want to talk to you."
"About what?" Their tentative new relationship was still raw and navigated around cautiously.
"Actually, Kitty."

Kitty popped the rubber band between her fingers repeatedly, pacing the portico. _They should be here by now... _ Jean, Kurt, Scott, Lance, Amara, and Jamie had been gone half an hour while Remy, Jubilee, Rahne, Bobby and St John were preparing to head out on their own shopping trip. Kurt had been suspicious of she she noted with some minor heartache. _He probably thinks I'm up to no good...Or that I don't want to be around him for some reason. _ A faint squeak and mechanical grinding noise signaled the opening of the gate to the grounds. Kitty perked up and smoothed her clothes nervously, stuffing the rubber band into her pocket in haste. _Okay. Calm down. It's just his sisters...They won't bite. These girls will be your family one day, so make a good impression... _ The van rolled to a stop under the portico and before Logan could get out and open the side door, the Wagner sisters tumbled out in a tangle of words and luggage. "Hi," Kitty said weakly, clearing her throat and trying again to be heard over the sudden din. "Um, Hi!"
Logan shook his head, retrieving an armload of baggage from the back. "No use, Half-Pint. Gotta be loud around them...think Jubilee."
The Wagners were still chattering, checking their luggage and straightening their own clothes and hair, all oblivious to Kitty on the front steps. Kitty tamped down the suddenly very active butterflies in her stomach and called out with forced brightness "Hi! I'm Kitty!"
The three sisters stopped mid-babble and turned as one. They blinked owlishly and burst anew into chatter, descending on Kitty like a horde of locusts. Logan mumbled a "There but for the grace of God..." as he lugged their baggage past the gaggle of girls on the steps, Kitty in mid midst of it all looking bewildered.
"Logan!" she called out.
"On your own, Half-Pint!"
_Oooh, if he's laughing at me...Grrrr. _ "Um...which one of you is which?" she asked in an attempt to make voices come into a semblance of order.
There was a surge of German again until Katja said louder than the rest "Klappe!" Her sisters fell silent and looked at Kitty with expectant eyes. Katja, voice full of nervous authority, said "This is Erika, this is Anja, and I'm KatjI'm I'm Kurt's favorite..."
Anja failed to catch the humor in her sister's voice. "Nuh-uh! He loves us all!"
Kitty giggled. "You know your visit is a surprise, right? Want to go up to my room before he gets back? They, like, all went to the store to get food for tomorrow." She was feeling a little more at ease with Kurt's sisters as she led them into the foyer.
"What's tomorrow?"
_Katja, _ Kitty reminded herself before she responded. "Thanksgiving...don't you guys know about that over there?"
Erika askehy shy should we?"
"Point...Well, long story..." Kitty led them up the stairs and down the hall, settling them in her room for the time being as she rattled off all she knew about the history of Thanksgiving.

Tabby was waiting in his room when Kurt returned. "Won't you just go away?" he hissed at her, seeing her sitting cross-legged in the middle of his bed.
"Aw, baby, is that any way to talk to your ex?"
"Yes. Now go." Kurt held the door open and pointed out in an utakatakable gesture.
"Nope...I think we need to talk."
"Tabby, you blackmailed me to stay here then you try to ruin what I have with Kitty even after I do what you ask. You get Amara pissed, which, might I add, is a very bad thing to do, and you commit arson!"
"It was an accident," she said sulkily. "You don't like me anymore..."
"Tabitha, I haven't liked you for a very long time..." Kurt sighed wearily. "What do you want? Tell me and go..."
"I'm just feeling charitable and wanted to tell you that Kitty has quite a surprise planned for you this evening..." Tabitha did not know what it was, only that it did not involve sex and she could use it as an opportunity to embarrass Kurt, another nail in the coffin of her feelings for him.
"Oh? And why should I believe you?" Kurt did not trust her further than he could throw her, but he knew Tabby would tell him the truth if pressed.
"Because..."
"Because why? Because if I find out you're lying to me I tell the Professor just what you were going to do in the school?"
Tabitha snorted. "I'm not lying...just be ready for her tonight. She's really excited about whatever it is..."
Kurt scowled at her as Tabby skulked out of the room. He slammed the door behind her and sat heavily on his bed, wondering just what was going to happen. _Even if Tabby's lying, Kitty did say that she had a surprise for me today...and what could it hurt to be the one to...ah...initiate the surprise? _ He had asked Lance several questions about Kitty on their shopping trip, mainly to ascertain that the lanky youth was not making a play for her at all but also to get a better idea of what Kitty really liked. He knew she adored flowers and roses were never a bad idea, but he felt Lance would have more of an insight into the nitty gritty of Kit rom romantic wants, as much as Kurt hated to admit it. _He's known her longer...besides, this might help mend fences, ja? _ With growing enthusiasm, he set about making his plans for the evening. _Wonder where the Professor keeps his candles? _

Kitty kept the girls out of sight until after the dinner hour had passed. No one came to look for her after a well-placed mental request to Jean kept them at bay. She had spent the day mostly listening to Kurt's sisters talk, telling stories about him, about home, about life in a circus and about the flight. Kitty nodded and responded when asked a direct question, but for the most part, the Wagner girls kept up a steady stream of chatter. Around seven, they all heard Kurt crank up his stereo, his favorite XTC song blaring across the mansion. "Ugh, Techno..." Kitty sighed.
"You should try it in a tent...there's no escaping!" Erika moaned, falling backwards onto Kitty's bed.
Kitty stood somewhat nervously. "Well, it's show time, huh? C'mon..."

Kurt jumped a little at the knock on his door. "Kurt?" Kitty called out.
"Um...a moment, please!" he answered with a break in his voice. _Shit! She wasn't supposed to come to me...I was supposed to get her! Shit! _ Hurriedly, he made the final touches on his ornate set up and, launching himself onto his bed to land on a coy pose, he called out, "Come in, Mein Schatz..."
His first clue something was amiss was that she opened the door rather than phasing through it. Kurt barely had time to react when a wall of femininity tumbled into his room. "Kurti!" his sisters chroused, followed by a faint "ew" from Erika.
Kitty turned tomato red and hid her face in her hands, not missing the myriad of candles he had set up around the room and the rosepetals spread across the bed. "Shit," she muttered.
Kurt finally grabbed hold of a pillow to cover his nakedness. "Wo ist das nächste Loch, in das ich versinken kann?"6

2 How should I know? I don't think he does!
3 He looks nice...
4 Who are you and why are you holding a placard with our name on it?
5 Do you bite?
6 Where is the next hole I can crawl into?
