“Warning,
theta radiation detected. Two hours until lethal exposure.” The computer
intoned.
Scott
grimaced at the cold female voice. He did not want to think about the
radiation. The only good thing it had done for him was to free him from the
curse of his sunglasses, though he was sad that Jean had to bear that burden
now, and allow him a glimpse into the beautiful German boy’s thoughts. He had
considered the boy for a long time now and was glad at the opportunity that
this gave him. However, he was not glad by the fact that the odds were they had
about two hours to live, making it pointless to tell him or to not tell him. Either
way they would die in two hours. If Kurt returned the feelings, he would know
happiness for two hours and then die. If Kurt rejected him, he would know agony
for the last two hours of his life. Correction: one hour and fifty-five
minutes, he thought.
Kurt
glanced up into his eyes and caught him staring. Scott quickly averted his gaze
and a similar thought to before came into his head. Mmm, those amber eyes
are so exquisite. Kurt’s voice said.
Okay, if
he doesn’t return my feelings, then there is something seriously disturbed
about that boy, Scott thought. He made up his mind and asked to speak to
Kurt alone.
“Kurt,” he
said while standing up, “can I speak to you for a moment?”
Kurt had
the cutest confused expression on his face as he stood up. “Sure…what is it?” I
wonder what he wants to talk about…hey, I’m not complaining about having some
alone time with Mr. Hot Stuff! He
thought.
Scott’s eyebrows shot up at this.
Luckily, his back was turned to Kurt as he was already making his way into the
hallway. He didn’t think Kurt would appreciate it much if he knew that Scott
was picking up on his thoughts, though unintentionally. He was having the
hardest time controlling the professor’s powers. He was sure that Kurt was
having an equally hard time with Lance’s seismic abilities. They hadn’t had any
quakes yet in the mansion, but Scott was sure he could give the sweet boy some
tremors later. Woah, can’t think
like that…not yet, at least…
“Um, I don’t want anyone to
interrupt us…why don’t we go into the library?” Scott suggested. The only
people who ever used the room were Professor Xavier and Storm, though Scott was
known to wander in there on some sleepless nights. So, he led Kurt to the
library.
“Well, uh…” Kurt started. “Here we
are…what did you want to talk about?” Kurt sat down in the nearest chair.
Switching powers not only meant losing his ability to teleport, but losing his
extreme agility and perfect balance. He could no longer casually sit on the
edges of furniture or on tabletops by tucking his legs under him. In fact,
Scott remembered that Rogue was having the hardest time trying to just sit
down, to everyone else’s amusement. However, this left Kurt having to get used
to sitting normally all the time, not just at school. Hopefully, this would only
be temporarily, for Scott knew how much pleasure Kurt derived from his
acrobatic movements and precarious positions. Hmm, I wonder how much pleasure I could derive from those
positions, Scott tht. ht. He
stomped the thought down as soon as possible. He was quickly becoming aware of
how one must keep not only his actions, but also his thoughts under control,
especially in this house.
“I just…uh…well…” Scott wasn’t sure
exactly how to say what he wanted to say. “Maybe you should sit down.” Scott
decided that was the best way to start the conversation.
Kurt simply blinked at him and said,
“Scott, I AM sitting down.”
“Oh, so you are.”
“Look, is there a reason you
asked me to come in here? Because, frankly, if I’m going to die from radiation,
I’d like to be doing something productive.” Like working that hard body of your’s…dammit! Stick to the plan! Play
hard to get! At least he can’t read your mind…wait…Professor Xavier’s—
“—powers. Yes…I hope you understand,
Kurt! I can’t turn it off! I didn’t mean to eavesdrop on your thoughts, I would
never do that intentionally!” Scott explained.
“So, you were going to be
considerate and bring me in here away from everyone else to tell me what? To
fuck off? Thanks for sparing my feelings in front of the others…” Kurt got up
to leave. Why did I have to fall
in love with him? Ever since that first day when he told me he didn’t mind the
way I look…Fuck! Stop thinking!
“I was telling the truth.” Scott persisted. “I didn’t mind the way you
look. And now, I’ve grown to like it. In fact, I prefer you without the
image-inducer, though I certainly am liking what I’m seeing now.”
Kurt turned around to face him. “Why
didn’t you tell me all of this before now?”
“Truth?” Scott asked.
“Truth. You have me at a
disadvantage here. If I lie, you can always hear the truth in my head. So, the
least you could do is to be honest with me.”
“Good point.” Scott said. “Well, I
guess it would have to be because…I was scared. Scared of what you might think,
scared of what everyone else might think, and scared that I might hurt you.”
“You could never have hurt me,
Scott.” Kurt said. Then amended that when Scott pointed to his eyes, “Okay,
well, accidents can hn, bn, but I’m sure you wouldn’t hurt me intentionally.”
“I just…I’ve come to care about you
a great deal, Kurt…and I was hoping that you could possibly feel the same way.”
Scott ventured.
Kurt looked at him for a moment, not
saying a word or thinking a thought, purposefully leaving him in suspense. Then
smiled and said, “Well, I’d be willing to give it a shot.”
An echoing YES! Resounded through Scott’s mind and he smiled as he realized it was his
and Kurt’s voices working in tandem. “Well, uh…maybe we should go back and join
the others?” Scott asked, taking Kurt’s hand.
“One second…” Kurt whispered, the
leaned up and kissed Scott softly on the lips. When they parted moments later,
Kurt stared into those deep, brown eyes and said, “Just as I expected. You
taste sweet.”
And with that, the feminine voice
sounded, “Warning, theta radiation detected. One hour until lethal exposure.”
Scott smiled down at Kurt, “You
know, I’m really starting to resent that voice.” Deep down inside, Scott was
truly worried, but for some reason, which he had a pretty good idea what that
reason was, he just couldn’t help smiling right now.
