Moving On With The World
For two weeks it was like walking on egg shells around him. Ororo didn't know how to approach him and when she did she didn't know what to expect. She often tried catching his eyes, but he always turned from her gaze with a grunt, hinting at his annoyance.
When the boldness returned to her, Ororo approached him without care of interrupting his meditation.
"What'cha want Ro?" He grumbled.
"I would like to talk to you." She retorted.
"Well, I'm busy right now." Logan closed is eyes as if trying to regain his concentration.
"Why are you ignoring me?" Ororo dismissed his rejection.
"I don't know what'cha talkin' about."
"Logan...Logan you know damn well what I'm talking about! So that is it? Was that all you wanted from me?"
"Ororo,...don't be gettin' over dramatic wit me" Logan snapped right back at her," You wanted it." His voice became deeper with his last sentence.
Ororo remained quiet for a moment tears fighting to come out, but she gave them no permission to fall.
"That was not all I wanted." Her voice was a whisper filled with regret, hurt, and shame.
"Ain't nothin' else here I can give ya, Ro'." Logan closed his eyes again.
"I see that now. You never could and I should've trusted my intuition. I should've ...."
"Give me a BREAK!" He suddenly yelled at her. He opened his eyes wide, stood and got directly into her face," You act like I abused you or something. Well let me tell you somethin' Ms. Intuition. You sure as hell didn't consider my thoughts on you with that guy."
"How dare you try and act like I can't see someone, anyone, with you after everything with a skirt on and a pair of breast."
"You're wrong, Ro. I ain't did nothin wit Jean since you told me about your interest with me. Some interest. You just wanted some attention. I dropped my playmate, but you...you gotta have both worlds. You gotta have a bad guy and a loser too."
"Mike is not...."
"You just keep getting comfortable defending him, cause I done made up my mind. I got me someone too."
Ororo eyed him and she knew he was lying.
"Why are you lying? You do not." She tested him, trying to hear any shake into his next comment.
"I don't care what ya believe, I don't care about your feelin's. I got what I was after, what you threw at me, and it was good. Real good. Now if you came to discuss somethin else fine, get it out fast cause I got better things to do."
Ororo lost it there. Her tears came, breaking her thin wall of force. Her lips began to quiver as she debated on telling her her true feelings, but why should she. He had already broke her heart even without him knowing that she had been giving it to him all along.
Mike and her continued to date. They became closer and after a month had passed, slowly, very slowly she tried to move on from Logan. She no longer tried to hold his stares, if she had to talk to him she would exchange only what was necessary. She chastised herself often whenever they entered the same room, because seeing him made her excited and often it took her breath way. Her mind would go back to that heated afternoon in her room and she hated feeling it after what he had done. He got what he wanted, she believed, and she felt like a fool for giving in so easily.
"Ororo, I've been thinking." Mike pulled her closer to him as they sat at one of their favorite restaurants.
Ororo smiled, she was curious.
She liked Mike very much. She actually was beginning to adore him. She had even told him about Logan and to her surprise he didn't turn from her. He told her he understood the need to explore all open options before you commit. This had surprised her, was he indicating that this was what he wanted? Apparently so because he continued to talk and he told her he found no one as intriguing and as interesting as her.
"What have you been thinking about, Mike?"
"Well we've been dating for over half a year now and I've been waiting on you." He spoke freely to her and when Ororo looked into his eyes she saw beauty.
"That long huh?" She was beginning to become nervous. She didn't like certain surprises and she felt like he was about to drop one right there at the table. She prayed that it wouldn't be a surprise she would regret.
Mike nodded at her, still smiling and now reaching for her hand.
"I want to tell you something, but you have to promise not to get upset once I'm finished." He looked her and once she nodded her approval he started.
"Ororo over these past months I've discovered a lot about myself. I didn't believe there was something wrong with me until I met you. I was a pretty blind person. I believed that people like myself weren't really people. I didn't want the world to change, but, I see that that is what the world does. She has to change in order to live, I guess. If I don't change, if I didn't change then she would've left me behind. You....I know it had to be you that opened my eyes and showed me these things. Showed me that change can be beautiful even with mystery and even with some sorrow some pain. Education has to be the key to realizing all that I now understand. I want to thank you for your kindness." He paused watching her face, seeing that she was impressed and maybe even blushing.
"Ororo you are such a beautiful woman and if you continue to give me a chance I want to be with you....always."
"Mike...."
"Wait...wait....I'm not proposing right now," He chuckled lightly and he brought her hand to his lips, kissing it softly," I'm just telling you where I'm at and where I believe I want this to go. I'd like you to meet my family.....well my mother. She's all the family I have. She's not like you, not like me, the new me, but I know once she sees you and once we talk she will understand, open her eyes too. Do you want to move forward? Do you want to be with me?" Mike finally laid out his entire feelings right there on the table.
Ororo was at a low of words, but the surprising feeling of joy washed over her and she felt the burning of tears coming to her eyes. He was falling in love with her and he was telling her this. He was respectful and she realized that Logan was no longer on her mind as they spent their time together. She was ready. She needed for someone to be on her path and Mike was.
She moved closer to him and kissed his cheek. The tenderness that Mike felt sent waves of desire through his body. He knew her rules about being touched, but he could not let his dream of kissing her lips go on. When Ororo didn't pull away from him he slowly moved his lips to hers. His hand moved up to the side of her face and with all his passion he kissed her. It was not rushed, but the need was there and it was fulfilled in that one kiss. When they finally began to pull away he whispered into her ear.
"You won't regret this. I will never hurt you like him."
In that instant Logan crept to her heart, just his name made her entire body become cold. Why was she not over him, why could she not forget him?
When the boldness returned to her, Ororo approached him without care of interrupting his meditation.
