Ray Of Light
Ray of Heaven.
By Lady Lupin Lycanthrope.
Fandom:X-men, comicverse.
Pairing:Wolverine/Storm.
Summary: He's the last ray of light in her dark, dark world.
A/N: It's short, but the longer version wasn't working for me. It's better this way.
Warning: If you have not read the Marvel Zombies mini series, you might not want to read this, as you will probably not understand this story.
**********************************
The Silver man on the surf board had escaped. Magneto was eaten. Storm was devastated that she hadn't gotten a share. They were running out of human flesh to feed on. She had once thought herself a hero, a protector of innocent people. Now all those people were nothing but her food.
She wanted to cry, but her body was no longer capable of the act. Strange, how you never miss the most simple things until you can no longer do them. Slowly, she turned her back on her fellow monsters and retreated to the ruin she and her fellow X-men now called home.
It used to be an orphanage, this burned out shell she now lived in. She and the other X-men had been forced out of their Westchester mansion when the building had burned to the ground. It hadn't been an accident. Cyclops had burned it intentionally in an effort to smoke out the still-human Professor X. It had worked perfectly. But watching Scott sink his teeth into his father figure's throat was an image that would haunt her forever.
The door was long gone. She staggered down the hallway to her bedroom, and collapsed onto the queen sized cot. It was the only thing in the room.
This was the worst. The small moments when she was in control between the hunger pangs. Soon enough, it would come again, and she would lose all control. But then again, the hunger was never really gone. She felt it now. The constant, painful craving for human flesh. Life was one horror after another, and she just wanted it to die. But she was already dead. Her body was decomposing, but her soul was trapped in it. All joy was gone from her life.
“Ororo?”
No, that wasn't true. This never ending Hell did have one little ray of Heaven in it. She looked up to meet the eyes of her lover. His flesh was decomposing, just like hers. He suffered from the same unending hunger as she did. But deep down, he was still the same wonderful, grumpy, frustrating man he had always been. He was still Logan.
Though she was ashamed of even thinking it, at times like this, she was thankful for whatever had turned her into what she was. If it hadn't happened, she and Wolverine would never had found their feelings for one another. Before all of this madness, she was ready to marry T'Calla, the Black Panther. But she saw now that that would have been a disaster. She had found her true soul mate in Logan, the friend that was always their when she had needed him most.
********************
Logan hated seeing her like this. In such pain. Emotional, not physical. That he could have helped with. But neither one of them felt physical pain anymore. No, he couldn't dull her pain. But he could help dull her hunger.
“I brought you something.”, he said softly, walking towards her.
********************
He reached the bed, and sat down next to her. She was confused. What could he possibly mean? He gave her a sad little smile, and pulled one arm from behind his back. It was a human hand, clad in a purple glove. Her shocked eyes met his.
“It's all that's left of the great Magneto. I want you to have it, Ro.”
She was both touched and sickened. She knew first hand how powerful the hunger was. It must have been so hard for him to save this part of his share for her. Her mouth was already watering. And though she still loathed herself for eating human flesh, she wasn't about to turn it down. She was starving.
As she reached for the offered hand, he gently took hers, and brought it to his ruined face, kissing the back of her palm.
“This is nothing compared to what I would do for you, Goddess.”
She peeled of the glove, and began to eat. Yes, this man was the only ray of sunshine in constant darkness. She would endure, as long as he was by her side.
