Losing It
Jubilee’s bare feet felt the plush carpet as she made her way down the hallway. It was plush, soft and it cushioned the sound of her footfalls. Good, she thought. I don’t want anyone to know I’m doing this. She fiddled and fussed with the buttons of her nightshirt. I can’t remember when I’ve been so nervous.
She came to the door at the end of the hallway. In itself it was unremarkable, made of stained cherry wood, identical to any of the others that lined the hallway of the Xavier mansion. But behind it waited the source of Jubilation Lee’s anxiety.
Tonight is it. Tonight is the night. For the entirety of her young life she’d dreamed of this moment.
But now that it was about to happen she couldn’t find the courage to go through with it.
Damn it Jubilee. She scolded herself, Stop being a pussy. All you have to do is knock.
She raised her hand and balled a fist, yet couldn’t wrap her knuckles against the cherry wood door.
Jubilee turned and scampered back down the hallway. A loud creek resounded off the walls and floor. She looked down and saw the loose floorboard. To her it sounded like she awoke the whole house. Logan’s rumbling snore dissuaded her fear.
Chicken shit! She called herself. Remember why you’re doing this. Get in there and get it done.
Her mental browbeating was enough to get her to turn around once more. Bravely she strode up to the door and knocked three times. Within moments the door opened a slight crack.
“Jubilation?” the thick accented voice asks, red eyes staring out of the darkness.
“Let me in Remy,” she said, unable to hide the quiver of fear in her voice. “I’m ready.”
Slowly the door opened. Jubilee stepped inside.
She heard the door click shut behind her as it threw her into darkness, cutting off all of the available light. She stood frozen, waiting for her eyes to adjust. She felt the press of dexterous fingers on her shoulder, “Jubilation… Chere… are you sure you wan’ to go through wit’ dis’?”
Jubilee replied by letting her nightshirt fall to the ground.
She looked over her shoulder at the burning cinders of his eyes. “Don’t talk or I’ll loose my nerve.”
Gambit nodded, stepping up behind her and put his warm hands on her naked shoulders. He pulled her into a hug, his hands not touching anything uninvited. She felt the curly hair of his chest on her back, the soft cotton of his pajama bottoms. He smelled like leather and sweat. Her hand guided his to her chest. The other arm wrapped around his neck and pulled him into a kiss.
She melted in his arms.
“Slow down Chere, we got all night.”
He’s right, she told herself. Don’t be so eager. Do this right.
* * * * *
Jubilation Lee slipped out from under the covers. Remy’s soft breathing didn’t change. She silently slid out the door and down the hall.
Jubilee crept back to her own room, she looked both ways to make sure she was alone (again). Quiet as a cat, she turned the knob and slinks inside. The desk lamp clicked on, soft yellow light filled the room. Startled Jubilee turned to find Rogue sitting on her bed.
“Hey.” The youngest X-man waved uncomfortably.
“Did you…?” the older girl asked without asking.
“Yeah.” Jubilee smiled in response.
Rogue nodded uncomfortably, “So, how was it?”
Jubilee stepped up to the bed. “Find out for yourself.”
Rogue slipped off the glove and reached out for Jubilee’s hand. With a deft move, Jubilee twisted out of her reach and grabs her clothed forearm. “Hey!” Rogue exclaimed in shock. Jubilee smirked and pulled her forward, pressing her lips to Rogue’s, transferring the experience via a kiss.
Memories flooded Rogue’s mind. She knows what it like to feel Remy’s stubble on her neck, his tender kiss, his hands on her body. Every touch and scent that Jubilee experienced is hers to remember; the anxiety of waiting, the indecision before knocking on the door, the exquisite pain as he enters her for the first time, the pleasure of a climax not brought on by herself. She knows what it’s like to be held into the night, both lovers euphoric in afterglow.
Remy was right. Jubilee was perfect for this. She needed this. She wanted this. Jubilee was the only other virgin on the team, her first time a surrogate for Rogue’s own.
But the memories don’t stop. Rogue knows what it’s like to be a runaway, hiding from police and mall security. The fear of being stalked by the Reavers in the Australian outback. She shared her love of Wolverine.
But deeper still something more. Rogue learned why Jubilee agreed to this. She knows how badly Jubilee wants to be ‘good’ for her first time with Logan (whenever it happens). She knows of her attraction, of why Jubilee constantly hit on Gambit. And she learns more. She learns of thoughts that Jubilation Lee had the first time she laid eyes on Rogue. She knows why Jubilee always acted so boy-crazy.
She knows with the clarity of an outsider, for these memories and feelings are not her own. Rogue gains insight into Jubilee’s psyche.
She knows Jubilee is in love with her.
Oh-my-God, oh-my-God! Already she’d picked up Jubilee’s mannerisms. What the fuck…
Jubilee’s unconscious body slumped into her lap. Rogue shoved her off, letting the younger girl fall to the floor. This wasn’t the plan. This wasn’t supposed to happen.
Holding her head in her hands Rogue waited for the rush of memories and personality to subside. Fifteen minuets later the panic finally stopped.
Herself again Rogue picked Jubilee off the floor and placed her in the bed. With her gloves back on, Rogue fixed her jet-black air and pulled the covers up to her chin.
For a long moment, she couldn’t decide what to do. Nothing, she concluded. Its so deep she may not even know it herself.
Leaning over she kissed Jubilee briefly on the lips.
“Jubilation Lee,” she whispered, “Ah love you too, Sugah.”
Rogue quietly got up and left. She is the only one who knew the full ramifications of what happened that night.
Jubilee had lost her virginity to Gambit, but she had given it to Rogue.
