The Wolf's Night

Disclaimer: I don't own X-Men of course I wish I did though.

A/N: Chris is kinda like Wolfsbane but more feral. More bestial instincts as it were. Chris has been a resident of Xavier Mansion for a few months and the only ones she's actually allowed conversation with is Rogue, Kurt, and Logan. There is the occasion she'll talk to Gambit but that's kinda avoided. So that's where this story starts. She has developed feelings for Kurt.

Chris paced through the woods in her beast form. Her tail thrashed back and forth. She was having trouble sorting through her feelings about a certain X-Men. The others couldn't help her in this matter no matter how much they wanted to. Her beast and human side were constantly at war with each other. Though they agreed on one thing and that was a specific man. With ease she paced back and forth. Even in these irritated motions her movements were full of grace. Finally having enough she collapsed in the snow and taking a heavy breath she laid down on her side. Focusing she calmed her breathing. A familiar scent caught her attention making her shoot up and sniff the air. Her ears flicked forward and back trying to tell which way the person was coming from. There was a deer herd about a twenty feet away and they were spooked.
"Nightcrawler I can smell you, so stop scaring those deer."
He bamphed right in front of her landing in a crouch. His tail swished back and forth. She moved forward and nudged his chest with her nose. "What are you doin' here Kurt?"
"I vas vatchin you."
"I noticed. It was a good thing I wasn't hunting those deer you spooked."
"The professor lets you hunt here?"
"Of course Kurt. Let's say my animalistic qualities are more violent than Wolfsbanes. I have to have fresh kills at least once a week."
Chris turned from him and continued her trek into the woods.
"Vere are you goin?"
"Kurt before to long I'm going to do something I am going to hate myself over that's why I stay away from everyone."
"I don't understand."
"You weren't meant to. I'm as feral as they come Kurt."
"Can't you control it?"
"In time yes. But the stakes will raise the day that comes."
"How so?"
"By then I'll have obtained a mate and pup."
Nightcrawler looked at her with interest. Never before had he seen someone so calm about being feral. He watched her stop and scent the air.
"You're scared of something," he blurted out.
"Yeah I'm scared of what's going to happen to you and the others if I loose complete control. You especially."
"Vhy, me?"
"My beast and human side agree on one thing and that's you."
She looked up at the stars through the holes in the tree. The stars light glittered in her amber eyes. The white wolf laid down in the powdery snow.
"Its the animal instinct isn't it?"
"Yes. In a pack the alpha female tends to be more aggressive. Kurt get out of here."
"Vhat? Vhy?"
The distant howl of wolves signaled the heralding of a pack. Before Kurt could move an inch they were surrounded by a pack of black wolves. A woman completely dressed in black Arabian clothes approached her. Chris stepped in front of Kurt and growled darkly.
"Kurt get out of here!!" she snarled.
Chris stayed in front of Kurt trying to make herself more ready to battle. He crouched down beside her ready to fight.
"Nein I will stay."
She looked at Kurt with meaningful eyes.
"As soon as this is over I'll go into a blood lust, I don't want you around all right?"
He nodded his head and she knew he'd never understand.
"You think you stand a chance little white wolf?" the woman growled.
"I want this between you and me. Your pack has to leave him alone."
"You know as well as I do that a pathetic creature like him is no concern in this matter."
The woman waved the pack away until they backed up and bunched together behind her. Chris turned and walked a short distance away. Nightcrawler followed and crouched down beside her.
"Kurt you have to leave now. I don't trust the black clan to keep their word."
"But."
"No, listen to me. I love you and I can't allow them to hurt you."
The blue elf looked shocked at her admittance. "I want you to go and stay safe so I can have something to come home to."
With a nodded of acceptance he turned to port himself away. Whipping around he pushed her into a tree and kissed her soundly before vanishing in a bamph of sulfur.
"So you've finally found someone to accept the beast within how sweet. Have you tried him in bed?"
The woman sniffed the air. "Of course you haven't. One day you will succumb to the beast and take him."
"When that day comes..."
"You'll feel remorse and sorrow because you were forced to rape your own love."
"What would you care?"
"I should care because you are my daughter."
"My mother died a long time ago. The person standing before me is but a shadow."
The black clothed woman leapt at her and they fought and fought. Each hit that either took spread blood on the white snow. Teeth flashed and eyes hardened. Both wolf's coats were stained with blood. Both breathing heavily. Chris made one last ditch effort and went for the throat. Luck was with her as her teeth clamped around the neck. With a few swift pushes of her hind legs the black wolf leader's throat was torn out. Blood sprayed everywhere. Bruised and battered the white wolf stood. The remaining black wolves fled into the night. With slow, careful steps she moved towards the mansion. Blood marked her path as she moved. With great effort she managed to reach the first floor bedrooms. To weak to change back she climbed as best she could and landed in a heap on the first balcony she came to. The scent coming from the open window was familiar. A soft keening whine escaped her as she tried to move.
"Kurt," she called out.
The blue elf wasn't in his room. Titling her head back a small bit she let out a strangled howl. It came out low. Luckily it was enough. Wolverine had scented her blood outside.
"Hey kid you ok?"
Chris was so weak that she could even get out another whine. He leapt up on the balcony and scooped the wounded wolf up and moved quickly down to the med lab. Beast took over from there.

Days later...

Chris was back in her human form but hadn't woken up. Beast was getting worried at her slow progress. What concerned him more was what Wolverine had told him about the scents on her.

Flashback

Wolverine looked over at the unconscious wolf.
"What is it Logan?" Hank asked softly.
"I smelt elf on her and he never came back last night."
"You don't think?"
"No, all that blood is hers and another womans."
"Go to the Professor and tell him about Nightcrawler's disappearance."
The feral mutant only nodded before leaving the med lab.

end flashback

"Chris you have to wake up."
"Kurt?" she moaned softly.
"Christina?" Hank asked.
"Where's Kurt?"
He heard the strain in her voice.
"He never returned after he went to find you."
Her eyes shot open, and she sat up ripping the IV needle out of her arm. Hank went to protest but the look of murder racing through her eyes over ruled his better judgement.
"If you're going then take someone with you. You've been out for three days."
"No, this is a pack feud. I killed the black wolf's mutant mistress."
"So they took Kurt in order to kill you."
"In a way but not what you think. Kurt is my alpha male."
Hank looked confused not really understanding wolf lingo. "Its a wolf thing. I'll explain some other day."
Turning into her beast form she moved from the med lab to the upper levels to her room. Pulling out a chest from underneath the bed. Opening with her nose she pulled out a necklace. Pain washed over her causing her to drop it.
"You need help sugah?"
"I just need the necklace around my neck, Rogue."
She only nodded and put the necklace around her neck.
"Bring him back, sugah."
"I'll do my best."
Turning she walked out of the room passing fellow mutants on her way out not even stopping to answer their questions. She was out for blood and nothing would stop her. She knew exactly where to find him.
Chris slowly paced into a abandoned building. The stenche of what use to go on in this place was making her nauseous, but she bit it back. His scent was fresh in this place.
"All right Black Clan I know you have my mate, and I want him back."
"What would you give?" one of the wolves growled.
The pack entered but without Nightcrawler. The eight black wolves circled her.
"Where's my mate?" she growled.
"Again, what would you give to have him back?"
Chris was getting nervous. Black Clan wolves weren't known for taking hostages even to get back at their enemies. A bad feeling washed over her just then knowing that they had done bad things to him. He wouldn't return in his right mind. Leaping forward towards the new alpha wolf she began to fight. The other pack wolves began to join in the fray. From the corner of her eye she saw a familiar figure slinking from shadow to shadow.
"Gambit!!! Find him and get him out of here."
She saw him nod and race into the shadows of the old building following his empathy to find his missing friend. The battle continued despite the shouting. The grunt and yowls of wolves echoed through the place.

With Gambit

The Cajun looked through the place trying to find Kurt. What he found made him wince. There were teeth and claw marks all over his body and his clothes were shredded. He was chained to the wall. Getting out his lock picking tools he set to work undoing the locks that had Kurt bound. Gambit didn't even want to try and guess what these wolves had done to him.
"Hang on mon ami."
Luckily Kurt was unconscious. Blood had pooled on the floor underneath his unconscious form. If what he assumed happened then Kurt won't want to be around Chris anytime soon. Carefully he picked the blue boy up and went back the way he came. Glittering amber eyes watched them but didn't make a move. Once the two of them were gone the lone black wolf followed. Gambit snuck out easily. Most of the black wolves were dead and Chris deemed more energetic than before. Her vigor renewed as Gambit swept past her with Kurt. Before to long the floor and walls were coated with the blood of the enemy. Her body quivered from fatigue that finally caught up with her.
"I know you're there so come out."
"You're not strong enough anymore to take me on little white wolf."
Her breathing was coming in soft pants. "Do not worry about your mate. I have no intention of fighting you."
"Why's that?"
"Because not all the black clan are so stupid. You've slaughtered an entire clan. I won't stand in your way."
The black wolf retreated into the shadows, leaving the wounded yet again white wolf alone. Chris sighed in annoyance before turning to follow slowly on Gambit's heels home.
She was hesitant once she reached the front steps. Knowing exactly what happened to Kurt made the white wolf hesitant to stay around. Moving around the side of the building she moved onto her balcony. Nudging the door open with her nose she walked in. The other residents of this room weren't in. Changing back into her human form. Gathering what little she had into her duffle bag she packed knowing that the hurt that Kurt received there would be blamed on her. That's the way it had been for a very long time. Scribbling a small goodbye note she left it on Wolfsbane's bed. With one last look around she threw her bag over her shoulder and she headed down to the med lab to say goodbye to Kurt. As she expected everyone was at dinner and Kurt was alone. Setting her bag down by the door she approached the bed slowly. Guilt washed over her. Leaning over she brushed some loose hair out of his face. Placing a light kiss on his forehead she backed away.
"Kurt, I'm sorry. I never meant for you to get caught up in what I am. Maybe I'll see you around meine Liebe."
Turning around she grabbed her back and bolted out the door and off the mansion grounds to find a place somewhere else to call home.
