Epilogue

Epilogue

She sat on her cot staring at the stone wall ahead of her. If she looked to the side, she’d see the animantium bars sealing her into her 10' X 10' cell. The collar around her neck kept her from shape changing, kept her a prisoner here in this ultra maximum prison...and her own children had put her here.

Why couldn’t her children understand? Why couldn’t Kurt see what a mistake Logan was in his life? Yet, the boy had ignored the animal Logan was and embrace what little worth Logan possessed.

And Rogue!! That girl had become the bane of her existence. The brat had never grasped what the two of them might have accomplished together. They would have been unbeatable.

The camera’s lense moved, focusing more closely on her, watching her every move. She couldn’t even take a piss without security watching.

“Ya got sloppy, didn’t ya, babe,” Sabertooth’s voice bellowed over at her.

He’d been quiet for...oh, perhaps thirty seconds, getting his rocks off tormenting her about being captured.

“Ya got all obsessive, didn’t ya?” He bellowed again. “Can’t ever just do the job and move on. That’s yer problem, Mystique. Just can’t help going overboard.”

“Shut up, you imbecile!”

His laughter haunted her from across the corridor. Must she endure this forever?

“And now yer stuck here just like me. Hey! Maybe they’ll give us some conjugal visits. Wouldn’t that be a show for security?” Another round of guttural laughter pricked at Mystique’s neck hairs. “Just like the old days, Mystique. You and me fucking like there was no tomorrow.”

“Only in your dreams, Victor. So roll over and take a nap!”

He never seemed to tire of laughing.

“God, what a hyena,” Mystique muttered.

“I heard that, babe. Not what ya used to say.”

Mystique rose and went to the bars, gripping them as if she could tear them from the dense stone.
“This is not the old days, Victor Creed. And I’ll find a way out of here. So if you don’t want to stay here when I go, you’ll shut the hell up and let me think!”

Victor appeared at his own bars, tall and hairy and contemptuous as ever. “What makes you think you can blow this place? I’ve been trying for months and can’t find a weak spot in security...yet,” he added, staring up at another camera.

“Because you have a brain the size of a pea, that’s why,” Mystique said, matching him contempt for contempt.

He let out a low growl. “Don’t diss me, bitch. You’ll be sorry.”

She pretended to yawn.

Then he laughed again and leaned against the wall. “Ya know, I’m not gonna let you rile me up.” He offered her a deliberate wink. “I get three square meals a day, a decent enough bed, cable tv. I’m just considering this a little vacation. A little down time. When I’m ready to go, I’ll go and this collar, nor this walls and bars, ain’t gonna stop me.”

Mystique smiled. “That’s my Victor. You just relax and take your little vacation. When I’m ready to leave, I’ll let you come with me.”

“Yeah. Sounds like a plan, babe.” Victor stretched his long body and yawned. “Time for that nap.”

He disappeared from her view and Mystique looked up at the nearest camera. “Do you hear me, boys? When I’m ready to leave, you’d better not get in my way.” Mystique pulled herself up as close to the camera as she could and put on her most evil expression, her voice going low and menacing. “ For you’ll need more than god’s help if you’re fool enough to try to come between me and freedom.”
