The hidden truth

It was nearing midnight, when Logan finally went back up to the school. As he came out of the woods and started to cross the grounds, he noticed Jean sitting on the patio steps. From what he could tell, she looked as though she was deep in thought with a worrieok ook on her face.

Logan stopped in front of her and cleared his throat. Jean jumped and looked up at him. She had been so distracted with the raging battle going on in her head, that she hadn’t noticed him walking towards her.

“You all right?” Logan asked, looking down at her with concern.
“Yeah I’m fine. I just have a lot of things on my mind right now,” Jean replied with a faint smile.
“Care to talk about it?” he asked.
“No…well maybe…actually never mind, it’s silly really,” Jean stuttered nervously.

Logan cocked his head to the side and raised his brow. He knew she was lying by the way she spoke and from the tension radiating from her body. He thought about shrugging it off and heading into the house, but decided to try to see if it would be worth his while. If it was just another one of those moments of her venting about Scott, then he’d take her reluctance with ease and go to bed. If it wasn’t, then he’d willingly stay and bug her until she told him what was wrong.

“This doesn’t have anything to do with old one eye does it?” he asked hastily.
“Oh God no. I’m well over that,” Jean answered, as she remembered the numerous amounts of times she bored Logan to death with her babbling’s about breaking up with Scott two months ago.
“Good,” Logan uttered, then sat down beside her, “now tell me what’s wrong.”

Jean just sat there staring at Logan and contemplating on whether or not now was the best time to burden him. After all, all she was going on, was her observations and the accidental slip of reading someone’s thoughts. She really had nothing to base her assumptions on. The only solid facts she had, was how it all bothered her and the way it made her think twice about her decisions in the past.

Now that she had Logan there to listen to her, she was scared and felt ridiculous. She didn’t want to blurt everything out, just to have it come back and bite her in the ass. Too afraid to take that rishe ohe opted to continue with her reluctance.

“I told you Logan it’s silly and really it’s not that important. Just never mind,” Jean muttered, before getting up and turning to head up the stairs. Logan stood quickly, grabbed her arm and turned her back to face him.

“Come on Jean. You should know better than to lie to me. Just tell me what’s bothering you,” Logan persisted sternly, his eyes boring into hers, as though he was actually able to read her mind.
“I accidentally read Marie’s thoughts this afternoon and then starting assuming things, that’s all,” Jean vaguely replied, hoping it would be enough to sway Logan from the subject.

Logan paused for a moment, as he scanned her eyes. While Jean stood there nervously staring back at him, it dawned on him. She must have read Marie’s thoughts towards him. Curious and wanting to get as much detail as he could to support his suspicion, he questioned her.

“What if I said you were right, why would it even bother you?”
“I don’t know,” she snapped instinctively.
“Yes you do. Why Jean?” he snarled back, glaring intensely into her eyes, as the grip he had on her arm tightened slightly.
“Look, it’s none of my business and honestly I don’t care,” she lied, before beginning to ramble, “if you wanna go ahead and fall in love with some else that’s fine. Even if I did care I…”

Logan couldn’t help but smile wickedly, as Jean continued to ra. H. He knew it was only a matter of time before she snapped and told him the truth behind her feelings. It was so easy to get her all riled up, before she eventually blurted out the truth.

While Jean stood there babbling uncontrollably, Logan swiftly cupped her face with his hand and kissed her. Jean was startled when she felt his lips pressing firmly against hers and with her mind still racing to figure out why he was suddenly kissing her, when she thought it was Marie he’d want to kissing, she pulled away.

“But I thought that…”
“I do…” he cut her off, as though knowing what she was going to say, “just not in the way she wanted.”
“But she…”
“I know and I told her how I felt. She didn’t like but…but…in time she’ll be okay,” Logan replied, a sense of sadness lingering in his voice.
“And you?” Jean asked, knowing how much Marie’s friendship meant to him.
“I’ll be fine,” he answered softly, before leaning down to kiss her.
