Stranger than Fiction

It did not take as long as Matthew thought it would for the news of Rogue's confession to him to spread To everyone in the school. The day leading up to the night of the concert was met with many questions from Kurt and strange looks from Scott. But Matthew figured it was mostly his new appearance that caused Scott's behavior. Though the rest of the guys of the school were OK with his new look Bobby made a comment and got a good elbow in the Ribs From Kurt for it. The black leather clothes he was wearing gave him a strange feeling as he walked down the long halls of the mansion. His long black trenchcoat trailing behind him like a cape. He felt like a vampire stalking the halls of his lair. He found himself Laughing at such a silly thought before he entered Charles' study having been summoned there by A mental call from Xavier.

He had caught a glimpse of Rogue walking into the rec room on his way to Xavier's study. From what he saw she looked happy and excited as well. Her demeanor during the day was a cheerful one. More cheerful than he had seen from her over the past two weeks since he had come to stay in the Institute. He wondered if things had moved to fast for the young couple but just marked it off as meaning it was meant to be as He Sat Down infront of the Professor who was Looking over a faxed set of papers.


*Damn I hope He is still going to let us Go. I figured he would have looked up by now. Maybe made that funny huffing noise when he was angry and trying to hide it. * Matthew thought as he had been sitting infront of Xavier for a good thirty seconds without Xavier saying a word or even looking up to him.

"I don't huff .... I snort." The Professor said startling Matthew a little


"I see Rogue has showed you the Ways Of Gothic Fashion." Xavier said Glancing over Matthew before looking back down tot he stack of papers on his desk.

"I planned on dressing like this when I had the right frame for it in my world. Marie just kicked started the motor here...How do I look? Bobby said I looked like a mime from hell." Matthew said with a slight laugh.

The Professor raised a brow then just shook his head.


"I do not think I am the best person to ask That. So I take it Rogue Has decided to let you use her real name?" Xavier said

"Yeah She said it was OK for me to call her that but no one else. Listen Am I in trouble?" Matthew asked.

"No, you are not In trouble. I just wanted to let you Know before you left that the Police have contacted me and asked me if you were the type of person who would start and argument." Xavier said with a strange look on his face.


*shit I'm in trouble* Matthew thought with a sigh

"You are not in trouble Matthew. I asked what this pertained to and they sent me the police report you filled out. I also had my contact in the Station send me a copy of the tape." Xavier said holding up a tape.


*Ok I am not in trouble. Maybe I am just going to have to cut the grass...damn there sure is a shitload of grass. * Matthew thought.

"Though I am highly tempted to punish you what you did was the right thing to do and was Also a mature decision on your part." Xavier said.


"WHA?!" Matthew said finding himself completely dumbfounded

"Excuse me But I let four guys kick my ass so they.......... .Oohhhhhhhhhh. I didn't even think about that. I did do something right this time huh?" Matthew said smiling.


"Yes, Despite the fact you could have very easily fought them off. In the process hurting or perhaps even killing them on accident. You allowed them to do what they did without even a second thought." Xavier responded.

"I got a confession. I only did it because I wanted to get them in trouble. I know you think I did it cause I was afraid of hurting them but that's not true. I'm sorry. Duncan Insulted Marie's Honor in public so I talked him into attacking me. I knew if I hit him and his friends they would be killed. So I forced his hand and made sure I was in view of the camera when it happened. I Wanted him to get arrested. Maybe knock some sense into his damn head with a 1 to 5 prison term. I know you say we should never attack those weaker than us...But I was so angry I wanted to do something and I was not going to just back down from that guy like he was used to people doing. I understand if you won't let me go with Marie tonight. I'll go tell her now before she finishes her makeup. " Matthew said before getting up and walking to the door.

"Matthew, Please Come back and sit down." Xavier said as Matthew opened the door.

Matthew Walked back and sat down. After Matthew returned to his chair Xavier grew very quite. SO quite Matthew could hear the chair creak from the weight of his large frame.

"I already Knew Why you did it. It was Easy to see from the tape. Though how you managed to keep a voice like yours from being heard on it I will never figure out. I have to say you did seem to know What you were doing. you came off Like The victim. I have a confession. Duncan has been a thorn in my student's side since they started school here. Though he Has set most of his attention on Rogue. Hopefully What you did Will make him think twice about bothering the Students here again. If his father is even able to stop this from going to court. After All Hate Crimes are very serious in this city," Xavier said.


"Oh MY God I forgot all about that!" Matthew said

"About what?" The Professor asked


"You have already gone public haven't you?" Matthew asked

"Yes, we have. The Brotherhood forced us to some time ago. That is way Duncan launched such a verbal attacked on Rogue. He was trying to get her to use her powers in public. If she had she would have been arrested For assault with a deadly weapon. Even if it was in self defense. I suspect he tried to get you to do the same. Though It seems his plan backfired." Xavier said with a slight smirk.

"Are you telling me He wanted me to use my powers against him?" Matthew asked with a slightly confused look.


"Yes, I suppose I am. However the way you reacted threw a wrench into his plans. So he settled for attacking you instead. What you did no matter what the reason Was for the best in the end. Rogue knew What he was doing that's why she told you not to attack him. I am not going to punish you for this. Not because I approve of what you did. But because tonight is special for The Both of you. If I where to cancel this date Rogue would never let me hear the end of it. You can send any Evil Genius at me without me So Much as batting my eye But a Hormonally charged Irate Teenage Girl screaming at me will make me crumble Like a house of cards." Xavier said with a smile on his face.

"You don't have to tell me. I am the one who grew up with a BI polar older sister. I would face an Army Of Magnetos before going through that again...wait I do have to go through that again.....damn......" Matthew said with a sigh.

Xaiver raised a brow for a moment then Smiled As did Matthew.


"Now Go before Rogue Starts to get impatient." Xavier said moving his chair out from behind his desk.

"Thanks Professor. But I don't think I should go unpunished for this .. Tell you what I will pull doubles in the danger room for the next week. Even though it will be my first time in there I think I should do it. So the other's won't think you let me off the hook." Matthew said as Xavier moved his chair Beside Matthew as he left the room.

* I never expected that. I must be slipping in my old age guess My judgment was sound in allowing him to stay after all. * Xavier thought to himself.

Matthew walked out of the door looking For Rogue. When he found her He could not help himself. He got weak in the knees and looked like a Deer caught in the headlights. She had on her Leather outfit Matthew Had bought her along with the rings and necklace. With it she wore her trademark Black tanktop and green Mesh shirt. Her makeup perfect as well as her hair. He could already smell the sweet scent of the perfume she had put on mixed with the jasmine scent of her shampooed hair. As he looked at the young gothic beauty his mind was racing with thoughts of Rogue.

*My God. She looks so Beautiful. Like a pale gothic Goddess .... She sure did go to a lot of trouble to look nice for me tonight. I think I am going to fucking faint. How the hell did I ever manage to have a girl like her fall for me? I mean Come on I am the biggest fucking geek on the planet. I fantasies about People who don't even exist for crying out loud! Yet Here I am In a world Just like the X-men Evolution Cartoon. Marie is In love with me and I am in love with her. She could have had anyone she wanted. But she chose me. What great deed did I do in a past life to be so lucky? All my dreams are coming true. Thank you God. thank you! Please Lord Don't let this be a dream. If it is kill me now so I never wake up! *

Matthew thought as he Walked up to Rogue who was sitting on the couch talking to Kitty. Rogue stopped in the middle of a sentence and turned to Matthew's Direction having heard him enter the room. A bright smile crossed her face as their eyes met.


* God he looks so handsome right now. Like a powerful vampire come to take me away to paradise.. How the hell did I get so lucky? They say everyone has a soul mate .. I always thought mine died at birth. I was only off by about 15 years or so. To think I would never have gotten to know Him If that bullet was off by just a few inches. It must have been fate. How did this happen? I thought I would never fall in love again. Yet Here I am in love with a big gray alien looking giant. Well, Look at Kurt and Kitty, Even Todd and Wanda are together now ... Yet here we have this guy 6 foot 6 White hair pure black lifeless eyes and gray all over. Oh My God I love this man! I am in Love with someone. And this time The guy loves me back ..... God hey its me Marie . I don't know if you still remember me its been so long since I talked to you . I just wanted to say thank you for bringing him to me. For Giving him the strength to stick with me. And for showing me I love him. * Rogue thought to herself as she smiled at Matthew.

Kitty found the silence deafening as Matthew and Rogue had locked eyes and froze as if under some strange trance. She dropped the remote and walked between the two teens waving her hands infront of their faces.

"Like Hello! Earth to Goths! You are going to be late if you keep staring at each other like that!" Kitty said before snapping her fingers in Matthew's face.

*Damn they are like so zoning on each other it is not even funny! * She thought.

Matthew Blinked and shook his head as Did Rogue a very seconds later.


"About time! I thought you were having a bad acid trip !" Kitty said putting her hands on her hips.

"I don't do that shit Kitty. Hell I don't even smoke or drink." Matthew said

*leave out the fact you are such a pussy that if you smoke two cigs or joints right after each other you puke like crazy. * He thought at the same time

Kitty looked at him like she was waiting for his face to melt off. Then said


"You are like the weirdest teenager ever! Hell even Jean has smoked a joint before and she is little miss Straight and Narrow!" Kitty said.

"I said I don't do drugs. I never said I haven't tried them God!" Matthew said.


"Ohhh OK then have a girl worried will ya. OK you to love crows I am off to find a certain Blue fuzzy elf with a sexy German accent later!"

Kitty said as she giggled and ran off like a bat out of hell. Leaving the new couple alone in the rec room. Matthew Spoke First.


"Marie you looked Beautiful. And.....that's all my brain can form right now in terms of coherent thought." Matthew said as Rogue walked up to him.

Rogue lowered her head and blushed still not used to having complements.

"Thanks Matt. You don't look so bad yourself .... Ready to go? We have three hours and it takes at least half that time to drive to the concert." Rogue said changing the subject.


"Yeah I got the tickets and everything. Oh yeah Logan gave me this thingy ."

Matthew said Pulled out what looked like a cellphone. It was black and had a small red x in the top right corner.


"He said if anything happened Press this Button and everyone would be there as fast as they could." Matthew said before putting it back in his pocket.

"Matthew Don't worry everything should be fine. I don't think even Magento would chance taking me with so many people around and I don't think he is dumb enough to try anything if your with me after what you did to Remy and Creed." Rogue said.

*god I. Hope I am right. I don't want my first date to end with me getting kidnapped. That would suck the chrome off a trailer hitch. * She thought hoping what she said was true.


"That Will never Happen Marie. Not While I'm around. I swear it! Now shall we go?"


Matthew said as he held out his arm and Rogue wrapped hers around it. As they walked out they did not notice the rest of the girls where watching from the corner, and the guys where watching from outside in the bushes. Scott was dressed in street clothes but was wearing his visor.


"Scott tell me why the hell we are doing this again." Bobby said picking leaves out of his hair.


"Logan told us to make sure nothing happened to them tonight. He said and I quote "You do whatever the hell it takes to make sure Those two have a night to remember. Even if it means blasting Magneto in public." I may not Like Matthew much But I'm not dumb enough to piss him and Logan off at the same time." Scott said brushing off his clothes.

"But Logan Gave Matthew a phone to call if anything happened didn't he?" Said Jamie who had slipped while sneaking out and now had three more Jamies gathered around him


"Logan Said that was just to ease Matthew's Nerves. If something does Happen we would not be able to get there in time to help if we stayed here. The concert is to far to make it in time to help unless we use the blackbird. And even then it would leave plenty of time for things to turn bad and Magneto to snatch Rogue. I don't need to tell you how bad that will be do I?" Scott said looking to everyone.

"No " Everyone said


"Yeah I would rather have nice polite Matthew than psycho Matthew. Did you guys see how bad he fucked up Sabertooth?"

Evan said while the car pulled out of the driveway. Everyone stood up and the Girls Came outside.


"You don't have to tell me Evan I was the one who had to look over the security tapes. I even gave Logan a copy of the damn thing. He thanked me for it by giving me 20 dollars!" Kitty said Smiling

"You gave Logan a copy? That's just sick!" Jubilee said while popping a bubble with her gum


"Well, It would have been if I gave everyone the tape but Since Logan Likes anything to do with Sabertooth getting his ass handed to him I thought it would be nice so NAH!" Kitty said sticking out her tongue.

"Would you two shut up! We have to go now so we don't lose em. Jamie Rahne Bobby and Cindy you are with me. Jean you take the rest OK?" Scott said.


"OK Scott. Come on everyone lets hurry before the Professor notices anything is going on." Jean said walking to her car.


The ride to the concert was quite. well as quite as you can get While Rogue Played her Murderdolls CD at full blast. The couple was Very Nervous. After an hour of talking about music Matthew decided to change the subject and said.

"Marie have you ever been on a date before? I mean With Remy or anyone like that." He asked


"No not Really. I mean I have hung out with the guys at the school but never a REAL date like this. I am kind of nervous to be honest with you." Rogue said with a nervous smile.

Matthew smiled and took one of his hands off the wheel and placed it over Rogue. Rogue smiled and took his hand in hers and gave it a squeeze.


"It's OK I am a little Nervous Myself. To tell the truth this is my first date EVER. Hell your the only Girlfriend I have ever had." Matthew said surprising Rogue.

"You got to be kidding me. You should of had girls crawling all over you. I mean even the girls at home think you are cute now that they have gotten to know you better." Rogue said in disbelief.


"No, I am serious. I was never really popular at school. I was kind of the kid who sat in the back and never talked much. I used to get into fights all the time because People thought I was easy to pick on. I mean yeah I would try and talk to girls I liked but I just came off as weird to them for one reason or the other. So I never got a girlfriend. The closets I got was this one girl who used to come over when I was young. She had this huge crush on me. I could tell because everytime I would talk to another girl she would get all pissed at me and ask why I stopped playing with her...Damn I wonder what she is up to now. Last I heard she got knocked up by some asshole that refused to claim the kid." Matthew said

"Really? What did she look like?" Rogue asked

*I should ask him stuff more often. He is more open than any damn guy I ever met* Rogue thought to herself.


"Oh let me see if I remember .... Oh yeah. She looked a lot like Rahne with her red hair and freckles. Only she had her hair cut like you do. I probably would have been good friends with her still if our moms hadn't stopped hanging out ." Matthew said

"Why did they do that?" Rogue asked finally turning down her music.

*this is getting intersting* She thought to herself.


"OK this is gonna sound really silly and fucked up but I swear it's the truth. About 8 years ago Carla's mom.. That was the girls name Moved kinda far from us. That wasn't a real problem really but then she Decides she liked snakes and got two big ass ones. She let them go all around the house and never put them in a cage. Needless to say My Mom HATES snakes so she never went back over her house anymore. They kind of just grew apart after that. I was kind of bummed about it for a while but I got over it. I guess I just got used to losing people. OK to change the subject I drew that picture for you. Want to see it?" Matthew said as the reached a red-light.

"Yeah sure where is it?" Rogue asked with a curious look.


"Its in my coat pocket ... here"

Matthew said as he handed Rogue a piece of paper. When she unfolded it she saw a drawing of a cartoon that looked very much like her. It was a pencil sketch of her sitting with her knees to her chest looking off in the distance with a very sad expression on her face.

"This is what you had a crush on? I mean Sure she is pretty. She looks so sad though. Is this really how they drew me? I mean its a great drawing don't get me wrong or anything .. It does looks like me a little.." Rogue said looking at the pic.

*Who am I kidding it looks exactly like me. Well, it shows less skin than I do but still... Why the hell did I let him talk about that girl for? Now I feel all Jealous about some friend he hasn't seen since he was a little kid. Stop being silly you know he loves you. * She thought to herself.


"I said I had a crush on her. But I didn't say it was because of her looks. Sure she was cute and all but believe it or not I have to like a girl's personality if I am going to like her at all." Matthew said looking at Rogue.

"Then Why the heck do you like me so much? I am not exactly all sunshine and rainbows Matt." Rogue said rasing a brow.


"Yeah I know .. But I still love you anyway. I guess the saying you can't help Who you fall in love with fits us like a glove huh? I mean Look at Todd and Wanda. They are so opposite it had to happen sooner or later." Matthew said smiling.

"Yeah I know what you mean. One minute I am just listening to you talk thinking what a great friend you are and how nice you are to me and then bang. I just KNEW." Rogue said.

*Hey lets see what she thinks of the song I burned for her .. god let her like Buckcherry (1)* Matthew thought to himself.

"Hey Marie put that CD right there in and play number four OK?" Matthew asked pointing to a CD he had put on the dashboard.


"Yeah Ok .. It better not be a damn Country song Or I won't kiss you for a week." Rogue said taking out the Murderdolls CD from the CD player.

"It is not a country song just play and listen OK?" Matthew said.

Rogue Put in the CD and played the Song Matthew asked. The music started slow and she listened to the words as they played. Looking at Matthew's Face the Whole time.

As the Words played Rogue Felt a tear roll down her cheek as she listened to them.


*Does he feel that way about me? Maybe this was just the way he could express it .. Oh my God He is crying..shit so am I. FUCK! Why can't he be like any other guy and just ask if I wanna fuck him now or later. No, Jean said he was willing to wait as long as I wanted. He keeps doing this stuff it may not be that long ARGH!! I don't know what to say now shit! SHIT! SHIT! SHIT!... Hey we're here. * Rogue thought as she tried her best not to cry.

Matthew pulled into the parking lot and turned off the car. He sat there for a few minutes till they both calmed down. Rogue helped him fix his makeup then she fixed hers.


"I didn't know if you would like the song or not it just kind of reminded me of you for some reason. Of us Though I was kind of torn between this one and Crush (3) from Garbage. Kitty said that one was to dark. I told her you liked dark though.but she already erased the damn song." Matthew said rambling


"Matthew" Rogue said putting her hand on Matthew's knee

"Yeah Marie what is it?" Matthew said turning to Rogue


"Shut up and kiss me" Rogue said smiling.
