Chapter 8
Chapter 8
Logan wiped grease from his hands and glanced at his watch. 8:49. Darkness had fallen and still Kurt hadn’t returned from his dinner date.
With a low growl he went back to the Jeep’s engine, not because it needed new air and fuel filters, but because he needed something to do to keep his mind off Kurt and that little stripling girl named Amanda who had once occupied Kurt’s thoughts and his body’s desires.
Not that Logan didn’t trust Kurt. It wasn’t about trust. It was about reality. Maybe they’d been living in a dream...sometimes a nightmare. Maybe Kurt belonged with this girl and not with him.
Dinner time had come and gone and Logan had ignored the calls. He didn’t need the hassling from the boys, who had started the moment Kurt had disappeared after announcing his date with Amanda. He had no interest in Charles’ scrutinizing glances or Kitty’s and Rogue’s sympathetic stares either.
He just wanted to be left alone to wait for Kurt’s return, trying not to dread, trying to have faith in their relationship.
The sound of the SUV’s engine was both a blessing and a curse. Logan kept his head under the hood of the Jeep and watched from the corner of his eye, Kurt pull into his usual spot in the garage.
Logan finally looked up when Kurt climbed from the Honda and shut the door, leaning back against it in what appeared to be distracted thought.
Wiping his hands again, Logan headed over. Kurt looked up with a troubled expression.
Logan held back, standing a foot away but not reaching out. If he did, he wasn’t certain he’d ever let go again. “You don’t look so good, elf. What happened?”
Kurt drew in a deep breath and let it out, eyes closing. Logan reached over and tapped the image inducer so he could see the real Kurt.
Kurt’s eyes flew open. “I’m okay. We just had a very long difficult talk is all.”
“She okay with everything?” Logan asked.
Kurt nodded. “I...yes. Amanda was very understanding. She had heard all the rumors though.”
“Ah, even the one about ya bein’ sick? You didn’t go into it all with her, did ya?”
Kurt nodded again. “Enough. I told her I had been...assaulted and that I didn’t know if I was sick. That I wouldn’t know for a few months yet.”
“What about me? She okay about you datin’ a guy?”
“She’s fine. She had hoped perhaps we might get back together, but I told her, Logan. That I love you. She understood. It was just as well she did, because it wouldn’t have changed anything. I would still love you whether she understood or not.”
“You’re sure about all this, elf?” Logan asked. “You’re sure yer headin’ down the road you wanna travel?”
Kurt pushed away from the SUV and slid his arms around Logan. Logan couldn’t resist any longer, gathering Kurt into his arms and holding on tight.
“I’m right where I want to be,” Kurt replied. “In your arms.”
Logan nuzzled Kurt’s hair and ear and smelled the girl’s scent on him. He bent and caught Kurt’s lips with his own and tasted Amanda on Kurt’s mouth. A possessive growl tried to work itself out of him, but Logan held onto it for Kurt kissed him with such need, reciprocating with the same passion and desire.
They broke apart for breath and Logan caught Kurt’s face with a firm grip, staring into the elf’s eyes, searching for that certainty, that belief in their relationship.
“She touched you...kissed you,” Logan said in a low growl, baiting Kurt with his knowledge.
“Yes,” Kurt replied without looking guilty or ashamed. “She comforted me and I comforted her. I love only you, Logan. Please believe me. Amanda is my friend and always will be, but you are my lover...my life and I want that to last forever.”
Logan stared a moment longer, searching for deceit, but he found none and pulled Kurt close again. “Oh baby, I’m sorry. I don’t mean to doubt you...us. I swear I don’t.”
“It’s all right, Logan,” Kurt said, his hands sliding up and down Logan’s back with sensuous comfort. “There’s nothing to doubt.” Kurt pulled back and gazed on him with a wicked expression. “Let me “pop” us up to your room and I’ll show you.”
“Let me turn out the lights, sweetheart,” Logan said with a grin. “And you’ve got yerself a deal.”
