“An… alien?” Kitty blinked and bit her lower lip. “As in… ET phone home?”
Jubilee, her face still slightly pinched from the turmoil of earlier, snorted, then laughed outright. She brought her fingers up to her forehead to make antennae and made beeping noises. “I am Zoltar, I come in peace,” she snickered.
“Actually,” Clark replied smoothly, “It’s Kal-El. And I do.”
The silence that crashed over the room was at once incredulous and stunned. “Kal-El?” Rogue said slowly. “And you’re from… Mars?” She raised a brow. “Zebulon Five? Beetleguese?”
“Krypton…” His expression did not change as he added, “It no longer exists. It was…destroyed.”
Professor Xavier cleared his throat and drew their attention to his presence. “Mister Kent felt that you all deserved to know his true identity, seeing as how you are all dealing with similar secrecy issues yourself… And he will ensure that the Daily Planet leads the way in decrying the mutant…rumors… and investigating the Friends of Humanity.” He could feel Emma tugging on his awareness, trying to tell him her findings on Logan’s whereabouts, but he did not let her in just yet. He scanned the faces of his students and smiled slightly. “I know this is one of the more difficult days of your tenure at this school but…” he paused and sighed. “There’s no way to make this less than it is. We try our best but there is still danger in the world for our kind. We are still hunted, more so now than ever. No matter what we get the papers to say, people will still know the truth, from the government on down to scum like the Friends of Humanity.”
Kitty shifted in her seat and sighed. All around her, her friends were varying stages of angry or scared and she hated herself for the moment because all she could think about was getting back to school, fitting in with the non mutants, just for a little while each day until she could get back to her room and be herself again. She phased downward, through the floor and into the basement sublevel below. It was dark and smelled of plastic and ozone and she hated it. It reminded her that her life was more complicated than most girls her age, that her life was one where they needed things like Danger Rooms and the Blackbird and holograph inducers and people had fangs and fur and possible fins… Forge’s workroom was still empty and she stood there a long moment, staring around her at the shapes barely visible in the dark. No one had spoken of Logan and Forge and their lack of presence but Storm was gone, as was Emma and Banshee. Kitty suspected Beast might be missing as well, once she got to the medical lab. On silent, quick feet, she forced herself out of the darkness of the workroom and through the narrow corridors of the sublevel to the elevator. _Kurt will understand, _ she told herself. _He’ll realize why I’m not staying this time… _
“Was?” He struggled to sit up but Kitty pushed him back down.
“You need to rest for another few hours! Cecilia said so!” Kitty slackened her grip on his arms slightly and he took the opportunity it provided. He slipped her grasp and in a sickening twist of movement that left her startled and out of breath, Kitty found herself on her back in the bed, staring up at Kurt’s wide, glowing eyes. “Kurt, don’t think this is about you!”
“I don’t,” he replied tensely, “I think it’s about you.” He eased off his grip and shifted to sit on his knees between her legs, folding his hands in front of him with a sigh. “I think you’re trying to prove something and it’s going to get you hurt.”
“What am I trying to prove?” she demanded, sitting up. “I’m not going to give up being in this program… It’s a once in a life time thing here, Kurt! They only admit a handful of people from across the country each year and…”
“And they’ve already targeted you as a mutant. Or did you forget about the sign on your door the other day?” he retorted, leaning forward, forcing her back. “Did you forget that you’re different than them, that people want you to die because you’re not ‘normal’?”
Kitty winced at the venom he threw into the word. “Kurt, I’m only going to be an hour or so away… Closer if Remy drives,” she added with a slight smile.
Kurt did not find it amusing. “Remy.. Remy’s off on some jag about Belladonna now. She’s missing too, you know, but is anyone looking for her?”
Kitty sighed. “I’m sure Storm and the others are. They wouldn’t just leave someone out there like that. It goes against everything they believe… except maybe Emma…” She reached for Kurt’s hands and pulled him down beside her, shifting to lay on her side and twine her legs with his. “Kurt, listen to me… I know you’re scared. I am, too. But we can’t hide in the Institute forever. People might hate us, fear us, want us dead but we can’t stop living life how we want just because there’s idiots in the world.”
Kurt sighed jaggedly and slid his hand down Kitty’s arm to her waist, then along the curve of her hip. “Are you still going to Chicago on Saturday?”
She nodded, knowing that the change of topic did not mean he was going to change his mind about things. “I have to. Legal crap… “ She tilted her chin and caught his lips with hers, a light and quick kiss that was almost innocent but not quite.
“Do you need…company?” he asked softly, a blush creeping up his neck at the boldness of his query.
She smiled. “Only if you don’t mind sitting in a waiting room at some law office for hours on end while I go through paperwork to dissolve the contract I made with your mom and set up a trust.” She paused, inches from kissing him again. “How’s Tabby doing anyway? I haven’t seen her since we got back…”
Kurt made a muted noise of frustration. “She’s in the back room with Wanda and Lucas. Wanda is…” he paused, remembering the word, “ah, catatonic. Cecilia wants her to go to Bayville Memorial Hospital but Beast said no, not yet.” He nuzzled her throat, adding, “Tabby is being loud… Not that I blame her. I’d be loud too if the woman I loved was in such a state.”
Kitty smiled slightly but did not respond verbally. It had been a long time, for them anyway, since they had had a chance to be alone, even if it was only for a few minutes. She kissed him again, at first harder than before, then slowly softening it to something deeper and sweeter. She shivered slightly as his hands made their way under her shirt and up her back, fiddling briefly with her bra strap before managing to unfasten it. She broke the kiss to breathe only to end up gasping as he squeezed her breasts slightly, rubbing across her nipples with his thumbs, insistent in his pressure. He bit her neck none to gently but not enough to cause pain and pressed he knee against her thighs, parting her legs and rubbing against her dampening sex. She bit her lip to keep quiet, aware of Tabby and Wanda just on the other side of the wall, and sighed in pleasure as he pushed her shirt out of the way and pressed fervent kisses to the swell of her breasts.
Kurt resisted the slightly irrational temptation to kiss the constellations of freckles strewn across Kitty’s chest and stomach, lavishing each one with a kiss and bite. Instead, he captured the turgid peak of one rosy nipple in his lips and sucked gently, gripping her hips and holding her closer. Kitty gasped sharply, arching her back and clutching at his shoulders. He wanted her then and there but knew caution was in order, especially given their past history. Shifting slightly, he skimmed his hand down the plane of her stomach to the waistband of her pants. Kitty murmured assent and lifted her hips, pushing his hand away for a moment and pulling her jeans off. Kurt smiled against her breast and slid his hand down her thigh, holding back a joke about her powers in their situation. Kitty arched her hips again, silently entreating him for a different touch than the feather-light one with which he was rubbing her thigh. Curling his tail around her ankle, he kissed her stomach below her ribs and nipped sharply.
Kitty almost protested, almost said something aloud about more and now and please, but Kurt did not tease her for long. She closed her eyes and gripped the pillow behind her head as he moved over her, teasing her sex with the head of his length, rubbing the silken petals of flesh between her thighs, rubbing the bud of her desire at the apex of her core. She squirmed, biting her lip harder, her eyes squeezed tightly shut as he lay more fully against her, the soft fur covering his body making her moan as it tantalized her sensitive flesh, heated as she was in the burgeoning throes of sexual pleasure. Her legs came up around his lower back automatically, without her giving it a second or even first thought, hold him to her as he pressed into her, her body adjusting to his penetration and shuddering, her breath coming in shorter bursts as he pressed kisses to her ear and neck, scraping his teeth along soft flesh and rubbing against her, the tip of his tail tracking up and down her inner thighs as he filled her. She opened her eyes slowly to find him staring back at her; she felt as if she were melting from the inside out under the intensity of his gaze. She never got used to it, the way he looked at her, the way he talked to her while they were in the most intimate of situations. She had asked him not to talk once, saying it made her uncomfortable, and that seemed to make him sad, she thought to herself as Kurt began to move. She pressed her face against the crook of his neck and tried not to blush too furiously as he murmured his wants in her ear, his endearments she could only half understand. Kitty could feel his heartbeat against her breast and the trembling of his body as he held back from going any faster out of fear of hurting her. She moved against him, measure for measure, feeling her own ending beginning at the base of her spine, uncoiling and spiraling upwards. He bit her earlobe as she sighed into his neck, his words tumbling together in a wash of heated need. She did not understand most of what he was saying but she knew, deep down inside her soul, what he meant. She clutched at him, feeling the play of muscles in his back as he moved within her, his barely withheld strength and passion for her, and she melted. Her climax was sharp and hot, starting in her belly and spreading outwards, making her cry out against his shoulder, her muffled entreaties and pleas and her own endearments lost as he pressed into her faster, his tail coming up to rub against the sensitive pearl of nerves driving her ending. She felt as if it went on forever but knew it could not have been that long, leaving her nearly lethargic and feeling full of warm and golden light, her body trembling as Kurt thrust into her twice more, hard and fast, then uttered his own strangled cry of completion, filling her with his release.
He did not know how long they laid there but he knew that for a short time, he forgot about being hunted in the outside world, about being different and a mutant. He forgot there was anyone else, really—no Professor, no Rogue, no anyone. No one who could make him unhappy or make him worry. He forgot until Kitty sighed and stretched and pushed away from him regretfully. “Where are you going?” he murmured, reaching for her.
“I have to get ready to head back to school if I want to be there for the first class in the morning. I’ve missed two days already… three and I lose my average.” She slid her jeans on, tucking her underwear into her pocket with a mental note to do laundry ASAP. “Kurt, don’t look like that… It makes me want to cry…”
“Ah,” he breathed, sitting up, “then you know how I feel.” He slid from the bed and pulled his sweatpants back up from around his knees. “Kitty, bitte… think about this before you go. Really think about it. Don’t just do this because you want to prove you’re not what your father said you were…”
Kitty’s face darkened slightly, then became blank. “My father is Logan. He’s never said anything negative about me.” She smoothed her hands over her shirt and frowned at the wrinkles there. “Kurt, please, try to understand why this is so important to me…”
He nodded. He did understand. He understood the need to appear normal when under the surface the world was broken into a million pieces that never would fit back together correctly. He understood the need to show your best face to the world when all you wanted to do was hide and die. “Katzchen…” he paused and looked at her trepidatious, hopeful expression. He sighed. “Liebes, wait a little bit and I’ll ride back with you.”
She sighed. “I’d like that. Remy’s going to drive… Storm…” she paused again. “Kurt, promise me you’ll be honest with me when they find out about Logan and Forge, okay? I don’t like being kept in the dark. I don’t care how far away I am, don’t lie to me just to keep me from worrying.”
He nodded. “Of course, Liebes. I’ll always be honest with you,” he fibbed. “Come on. It’s almost nine. I think your dorm locks down at midnight, ja?”
She nodded and let him lead her from the lab. Things were not normal, not even close, but she could pretend for a little while.
