Chapter 72
Chapter 72
Mystique watched Logan go, had noted the bulge in his pants from her teenage body getting up close and personal with his. He pushed through his motel room door and disappeared.
A pang of concern for her son came and went that Logan might turn his needs on Kurt. But then wasn’t that what she wanted? For Kurt to see the animal...the beast Logan was...even if that meant Kurt suffered?
Her thoughts shifted back to Logan, thoughts of him nearly consuming all her attention of late. Perhaps she was beginning to enjoy Logan’s body too much. Perhaps she wanted more than to punish him now that she’d had him in every way conceivable...except to have him inside of her.
Perhaps she’d find a way to remedy that omission.
“You going to buy anything, little lady?” the store clerk asked, dragging her back from her dark fantasies.
Mystique turned her sweet smile on the man and grabbed a power bar from the rack nearby. “Of course.” She gave him a wink as she lay down a couple of dollars on the counter. “Keep the change, grandpa.” She make a kissy face at him and laughed out the door.

Kurt stared at the closed bathroom door, his heart aching. Logan’s behavior burned like scalding water, hurt like salt in an open wound.
“It’s not going to work, Logan,” Kurt whispered. “You can’t drive me away. Do your worst, but I’m not leaving you.”
He stared for a moment longer than with a sigh, grabbed up the cup of coffee and sipped it too fast. Jerking back, Kurt let out a gasp of pain, the coffee hot enough to burn his tongue and the inside of his mouth.
“Gott damn it!” Kurt let out a frustrated growl and looked around. On the table sat creamer and sugar packets.
Logan remembered and the realization that Logan had thought enough of how Kurt took his coffee warmed his aching heart just a little.
A rumble of hunger rolled through Kurt’s stomach and he rose, fixing his coffee and tearing open the box of donuts. He turned on the television, flipping through channels and finally settling on an old movie while he ate.
Finally, the door to the bathroom opened, steam rolling out. A damp Logan came out, jeans and boots already on and pulling on a dark tee shirt.
“You’re up, kid. Get a shower and we’re headin’ out, pronto.”
“Why are you in such a hurry? I haven’t finished my coffee yet.”
Logan’s eyes narrowed and lips pulled back from good teeth. “Cause I said so, elf. Now get yer ass in motion before I set it in motion.”
“Oookay,” Kurt replied, warily. “I’m going.”
Logan turned away without another word, stuffing clothes into his pack. Kurt’s frustration level rose another notch.
When Kurt came out of the steamy bathroom, the room was empty. A wave of panic sent him scurrying to the door.
The bike was there and across the street, Logan was leaving the convenience store. Logan stopped long enough to light a match, hand cupped to his face. When Logan straightened, Kurt saw something he’d never seen before...a cigar in Logan’s mouth.
Logan smoking? What next?
With a bemused shake of the head, Kurt turned to the motorcycle to stow his pack.
“Hi, handsome,” a female voice said from down the rows of rooms. Kurt turned to see a girl, dressed in jeans slung low and a crop top run out to meet Logan, reaching to squeeze his arm as if she knew Logan.
Logan’s body stiffened and it seemed to Kurt that Logan shook the girl off with some reluctance, saying something Kurt couldn’t quite make out. Jealousy reared its ugly head, a sneer pulling at Kurt’s mouth.
“Logan!” he called and again, with seeming reluctance, Logan turned to him with the girl sidling up close in a flirtatious maneuver. “I’m ready to go!”
The girl pulled at Logan’s attention, fawning and flirting. Kurt slammed the compartment on the bike closed and stalked towards them.
“Logan,” Kurt said through gritted teeth. “Let’s go.”
“Yeah, we’re goin’,” Logan said without looking at Kurt. “Take care of yerself, little girl. And ya’d better stop messin’ with guys like me. We’re nothin’ but trouble.”
Kurt grabbed Logan’s arm and tugged him away, turning to bare his teeth at the girl. But the girl just smiled at him with feigned innocence and waved with her fingers.
“See you around, handsome,” she called after them.
Kurt flung her another glare and didn’t breath easy until he and Logan were flinging rocks and heading out of the gravel parking lot.
He hung on with a possessive grip, finally easing back to a loose hold. Logan didn’t seem to notice, the man caught up in driving the narrow two lane highway. Yet the girl’s flirtation with Logan ate at Kurt’s insides, played games with his mind.
What might have happened between Logan and the girl if Kurt hadn’t been there to reel Logan back from the hussy’s obvious advances?
Stop it! Stop it! Stop it!
Logan loves you. Logan needs only you.
Kurt prayed his inner voice was right and after two hours of riding, Logan pulled into a convenient store parking lot, kicked the stand down and climbed off.
Climbing off as well, Kurt grabbed Logan’s arm. “Who was that girl?”
An eyebrow rose. “Nobody, elf.” Logan pulled free and headed into the store.
Kurt rushed after, stopping Logan once again. “She acted like she knew you.”
“Relax, darlin’,” Logan said, his expression unconcerned.. “She was just a little girl messin’ around, tryin’ to get a rise outta one of us. And it looks like she succeeded, ya think? Now, do ya mind? I gotta take a piss.”
Letting Logan go, Kurt stared after, for the first time in a long time uncertain of where he stood with Logan. He was still in the same place when Logan came out.
“Snap out of it, elf,” Logan said, fingerings snapping in Kurt’s face. “I never took you for the jealous type.”
Kurt whirled as Logan headed for the bike. “I’m not jealous,” he insisted. “She just looked like a trouble maker is all.”
“Yer right about that, kid.” Logan pulled on his helmet. “She’s gonna give somebody a big headache, but it ain’t gonna be me. Now, ya comin’? Or ya gonna wait for a bus back ta Bayville?”
Kurt rushed to the bike and climbed on, struggling to get his helmet back on. The bike roared away and Kurt gripped Logan’s jacket and held on as if his life depended on it.
