Chapter 7
Logan woke and glanced at his surroundings, he was leaning against
the bathroom wall inches from the toilet. Remy was curled up against
him, his legs thrown over the older man's lap, head on his shoulder
and arms around his chest. If Logan made any attempt to move, the
young man would know it immediately. He grinned looking at the
sleeping Cajun. It had only been a few days since they left the X-
men but he could not think of himself parted from the boy who had
folded himself around him like a security blanket.
Logan reached up and brushed back the long bangs that always seemed
to be used to cover those magnificent eyes. "Thank you Rem for
saving me from myself again" he whispered as he bent down to kiss the
sleeping man's forehead.
Remy smiled and wrapped himself tighter around Logan, sighing softly
against his shoulder. Logan smiled even more as he leaned back
against the wall and waited patiently for his lover to wake.
*********
Remy had slept through breakfast and Logan wanted to get moving
again, so lunch was being eaten in the jeep as they drove on. "So,
ya gonna tell me what ya bought while I was getting the food, kid?"
Remy smirked as he stole another of Logan's onion rings and popped it
is mouth. "`S a surprise, mon amour, I'll show y' when we stop
again."
Logan pulled the jeep to the side of the road. "We're stopped.
Now, whadja get?"
Remy laughed. "Y' worse dan a chile' Logan. Can' believe y' can'
wait a few hours." He reached into the bag behind Logan's seat and
pulled out 2 cameras. "Dis one is a Polaroid for instant
gratification." As if to make his point known, he leaned into Logan
and smiled as he snapped a picture of the two of them. Showing Logan
the developed picture he smiled. "We like Thelma an' Louise now, mon
ami."
Logan looked at him like he had lost his mind. Remy then pulled a
digital camera and digital video camera out from behind the seat
along with a laptop computer. Logan looked at it all
incredulously. "What the hell we gonna do with all that, kid?" Not
so pure thoughts were running through the older man's head at the
moment as he thought about just what the kid wanted to videotape.
He felt like a dirty old man when Remy replied. "It's so y'll
always know dis real, Logan. Figger'd we take pictures and video of
where we go and of us together so dat any time you feel dis one of
dose false memories, y'll know it was real. Den we download dem on
de laptop and enjoy. De video we can hookup to jus' `bout any
television in de hotels."
Remy's smile was so sincere and loving that Logan found himself
crying once again and held the boy close to him. "Thank you Remy.
Seems I've been saying that a lot lately. Thank you for all of this."
Remy took a moment to soak in his lover's words. Then he leered at
the older man as he responded "`sides we could always make a Pam
Anderson and Tommy Lee on de road video and have some
unknown `friend' steal it and mail it back to Cyke."
Logan laughed out loud as he pictured the leader of the X-men's face
watching the two of them making love. He kissed the young man. "I
love ya Rem."
Remy looked into Logan's eyes and whispered "I love y' too ol' man."
******
"So, y' gonna tell me where we goin'?" Remy asked as he and Logan
were eating dinner in yet another Holiday Inn. "I know we goin'
west, but how far west we gonna go?"
Logan sat silent for a moment, concentrating it seemed on the food in
front of him. He looked up at Remy and gave a small smile. "Was
thinking' `bout going back to Canada. British Columbia. Ya up for
that or…." His voice trailed off and he looked back at his plate.
When they left the X-men a week earlier he had no idea where he
wanted to go. He only knew that he needed to get away from them and
that he had to get the kid away too. No other thought entered his
head. Get out, get the kid out and worry about the rest later. Now
he was worried about what Remy wanted. He never asked, never thought
to ask. He was just happy the kid wanted to leave with him. Would
he be willing to go home with him? Back to his home?
Remy looked at him, head cocked to the side and responded
thoughtfully. "Course I wanna go. Never been dere. I here Vancouver
is a beautiful city. Why wouldn' I wanna go?"
Logan looked at his young lover and smiled again. It was do or die
time. "Not Vancouver Rem. My home is almost in Alaska. It's about
50 miles outside McBride, BC. No big city there, just lakes and
mountains, peace and quiet."
Remy looked at Logan for a moment letting the words sink in. No
City. It was bad enough living in upstate New York instead of the
city. He felt isolated and lost. In the mountains, away from people
he would be out of his element. He needed people. Needed their
essence, their noise, their thoughts. He blinked once and then again
before answering in a slightly shaky voice. "Sounds nice, Cher. You,
me and de moose." He smiled or at least tried to smile. "Be a
challenge to keep de peaceful part, not exactly de quiet type, me."
"Ya'll love it, Rem." Logan was getting excited now, seeming not to
notice the apprehension in the younger man. Remy had not said no.
He wanted to be with him. Wanted to go and start a new life with
him. "I can teach ya to meditate to help ya calm your hyperactive
self. Ya need to learn to relax kiddo. You are way too stressed out
for someone your age. Ya'll love it there. The land is open, the
lake is crystal clear, and the animals are everywhere. Moose,
eagles, mountain goats, caribou, wolves, grizzly bears."
Remy dropped his fork " Bears!?"
Logan nodded "Bears. The view is amazing too. The cabin is in the
shadow of Mount Robinson. Oh, Rem it's perfect. Well almost
perfect. We'll have to fix it up a bit, maybe add another room. Get
it truly winterized. We can fix it up in early spring and be ready
by summer to move in. I had a garden there once so we can get it
going again and the fishing is great and the deer plentiful so we'll
always have food and the water from the well is so clean and tastes
amazing. Oh, and the bathtub is more than big enough for the both of
us." He added with a wink. "Ya don't have a problem with an
outhouse right?"
Remy's jaw dropped at the mention of outhouse. "No plumbing?"
Logan laughed. "The pipes would freeze. Too cold for that. But
plenty of fresh water around and we can store a lot of it inside as
well. It'll be like camping."
Remy's voice dropped to almost a whisper. "Ain't never been camping,
Logan. I like indoor plumbing. I ain't ever grew nothing neither.
I ain't sure y' want me in dat scenario. Likely we starve if y' make
me plant anyt'ing. Jus' ask Stormy."
Logan grew dark at Remy's words. "I don't want to ask Storm
anything. I don't want to ask any of them anything. The X-men our
past now. I want the future. I want a quiet future. No fighting, no
killing, no struggles. Just me and you and peace, Rem. I just want
some peace."
"Jubilee. What about her, Logan? Y' jus' can' leave her behind."
Logan sighed. "I'm not leaving her behind. I am letting her be what
she wants to be. She wants nothing more than to be an X-man and I
can't stop her. I've tried. She's better off with Emma. But when
we're settled, I'll ask her if she wants to join us. That make ya
feel better?"
Remy nodded slowly and asked one more question, already knowing and
dreading the answer. "Dis place a yours…It got `lectricity, right?"
Seeing Logan's broad grin confirmed his fear. "Nope"
Remy sighed and tried very hard to smile at his lover. "Sounds
wonderful, Cher. Can' wait to see it."
Logan grinned and threw money on the table. "It's settled then." He
grabbed Remy's hand and pulled him up and into his arms. "I love ya
Rem. With all my heart. I can't wait to make a new start with ya."
He kissed the young man deeply and pulled him toward the
door. "C'mon, I'll show ya how I'm gonna keep ya warm at night up
there."
Remy gave a genuine smile at the thought of Logan keeping him warm on
the cold nights to follow and, as he was lead from the restaurant,
made a mental note to buy and watch all the episodes of "The Little
House On The Prairie" series.
