Part Seven
Attack on Frost Enterprises
Part Seven
Like a content puppy, Adrienne lapped up the blood of the dead thing beneath her. Her control remained intact – as did, coincidentally, the man’s body – and was content to lick up the mess.
Instinctively, she glanced up when Jared had spoken to her. They’re in… good. It would not be too much longer, then, until her assistance was required. Leaning across the man – stepping carefully to avoid what remained of the mess – she grabbed her dagger in her teeth and carried it away. She set it down, began to clean it off, and responded.
{I’m just about finished here. Keep me informed of orders.}
By the time she had finished speaking, the dagger was cleaned and ready.
-
“I told her to get her ass out once she was done.” He growled low in his chest trying to keep their noise down to a dull roar. He walked quickly up the stairs, taking two and three at a time; he could smell security on every floor they passed. “Tell her mangy ass to make for the vent and get lost.” All he needed was for someone to find her in the security office and call 911, that would make a pretty picture for the morning news, ‘Sabretooth found inside building, the long thought dead mutant lives and terrorizes the business sector of New York.’ He stopped, froze, wrenched from his thoughts by a stray smell.
-
Jared was too busy trying to concentrate hard enough to get the message to Adrienne and to move fast enough for Creed that he didn’t even notice when the much taller man stopped and he crashed into his back. “What the- why’d you stop?” He groaned and back peddled two steps, wings twitching with obvious annoyance.
He remembered the message he was supposed to be sending and thought tersely, ’Creed says to get out… Keep surveillance or something a good distance away… We’ll meet up later.’ Jared then returned his attention to Creed, who still hadn’t moved. “What is it?” He asked, worry slightly evident.
-
Surveillance? How was it possible to do that outside? Of course, she knew she’d be the lookout of any reinforcements, should they be called. Yet would it not be more efficient to simply ensure that they weren’t called to begin with?
Orders were orders, though. She changed back to human and holstered the dagger, then returned to the room she had arrived in. She leaped onto one of the tables and began to shift back to raven. Once she was able to, she spoke to Jared.
{Would it not be more helpful for me to fight alongside you boys? If worse comes to worse, you and I could escape; as per your orders, if I recall… to escape with the fragile disk…}
She simply hated to be kept out of the loop, especially after coming this far. Hated to get involved, but once past that, she loathed to leave. Once changed, she leapt from table and, with a bit of strained flapping, managed to make it to the vent.
-
Creed felt the soft blow and made a hand motion over his shoulder that meant ‘shut it’. He listened intently, apparently Adrienne had gotten bad information, the ninth floor, which they were crossing seemed empty, but the tenth, a mere flight of stares away was packed with security. Damn it, he knew he should have brought the building plans with him. “We’re going in here.” He whispered, grabbing the door to the ninth floor and yanking it hard enough to take it off the hinges with a sickening whine. The guards had passed the stare well and no one should have heard, but then it wasn’t exactly Creed’s day.
Entering, he crouched low to the ground and made his way down the hall toward the elevator shaft. He motioned silently to Jared that they would be going through there and yanked the doors open. A ruckus rose from the stare well, they had heard. Creed cursed himself under his breath and grabbed Jared, not waiting to see where the elevator was and jumping into the shaft. He swung like a monkey from the elevator cable, clutching Jared with an arm around his waist. As the door closed slowly the guards could be heard calling backup to the floor.
-
Jared shut up immediately and listened for whatever Creed had heard, but he couldn’t hear a damn thing and was getting annoyed; four security guards wouldn’t be that hard to take down if they did meet up with some and Jared could handle himself in a fight. However he followed along behind Creed, crouching low and finding it very hard to make his way, his walk turning into more of a drunken wobble with the aid of his wings. While they made there way he quickly though, 'Just get outside, woman... We'll call if we need you.' Suddenly there was a clambering behind them and, before Jared could look over his shoulder to actually see the men approaching the room, he was grabbed and they were through the elevator doors in a flash- minus the elevator.
“Fuck!!” He yelled out and immediately gripped Creed tightly around the neck and they were pressed flushed together, his wings uncomfortably bent backwards. They dangled above the now moving elevator, which was twelve feet below, and he looked up at Creed and tried to smirk, “Normally you wait for the elevator to come first, then go through the doors.” Jared was sure that his pistol was digging awkwardly into creed’s side, but there was really nothing to do about that so he let creed hold him up. “What now?”
-
“I hope that’s your gun…” Creed joked with a smirk, this couldn’t get much worse, could it? The kid was about to freak out and the elevator was on the move toward them. “Just hang on, when the elevator gets close enough…” but he trailed off as the elevator was coming quicker than he had though and he had only a moment to drop them safely on top of it. The noise was loud, Creed doubted a deaf person could have missed their landing and was right as he heard the sound of gun’s being cocked. Pushing Jared to the side, hopefully out of harms way, he yanked the roof door open just in time to be fired upon. Three bullets found their mark, his skull, and Creed fell into the cramped space, momentarily unconscious. But unfortunately for the guards, his healing factor had him up and about in moments. The sounds of gun fired were accented by screams and the tearing of flesh as Creed did what he was best at, soon it was all over and he poked his head back out to see it Jared was alright.
-
Jared didn’t have any time to react- first he was disarmed by Creed’s teasing, then dropped on his ass, then in shock at seeing the feral mutant shot in the head, and then in awe of the blood frenzy… He didn’t even get that chance to draw his gun. As Creed poked his head out, Jared gave him a mock glare and asked, “You sure know how to show a guy a good time, huh?” They were rising steadily and the angel chanced getting to his feet, taking hold of the cable cord and offered Creed a hand up. “Where to now?”
-
Creed took Jared’s offered hand, but pushed himself out not wanting to hurt the kid, he still needed him to fly. “Well, they know weren’t here and we are well above the tenth floor, so…” reaching into the elevator again, he hit the 9th floor button. “We go back down.” The elevator slowed and changed directions, Creed watched the floors as they went by, they would have to figure a way around a full frontal attack. After all the ruckus, the guards would be waiting at the elevator for them. “Gonna grab the eleventh floor, go in from above, you good with that?” it wasn’t a question as most of his suggestions weren’t. “When we pass grab the ladder and I’ll get the doors, just make sure you cover me, got it?” he pointed to a utility ladder on the left side of the doors. Their floor was coming along quick and he wanted to be ready.
-
“Back down?” Jared asked incredulously but was cut off, and he remained silent and obedient as Creed set up the game plan. Of course, things could go wrong, but he would make sure that Creed had as much of a clear opening as Jared could give him. For once the ever-present smirk was gone and his eyes held a serious look to them as he unclipped his gun and held it in his left hand, and he was ready for whatever was to come… "Got it."
They passed by the thirteenth floor, the twelfth, and then… Jared jumped quickly onto the ladder, using his right hand to grab a rung and he moved to climb up two more, wanting the best position available. He watched as the feral made quick work of the doors and aimed. Jared quickly thanked the fact that in another life he had been a rich little boy who excelled as a marksman and shot three unsuspecting guards dead before the doors were halfway open. As Creed made his way through Jared quickly jumped from the ladder and followed, shooting five more; there were now only two left and those he left to Creed.

One rule Adrienne had always lived by was ‘Trust Your Instinct’. And, right now, her instinct was telling her to not leave the boys behind, orders or no. It was a strange reaction, to be sure. By all accounts, she should gladly be soaring outside, flying freely, as they handled the dirty work. But… she simply couldn’t.
She leaped out of the air vent, gliding gently downwards. When she neared the ground, a sound from far off in the mostly-empty floor confirmed her fears. Rapid movement, lots of bodies clamoring in what sounded like a small area. From the echo of the movements – which she could hear far clearer than she could as a human – she guessed the stairs. Too many to be the boys, which meant guards, and lots of them.
Before she could react to that, she heard an extremely loud crash, then almost immediately after, gunshots. Many, many gunshots. She heard no screams that sounded remotely like Jared, so she only hoped he was alright.
One thing was certain. She sure as shit was not leaving.
{How are you guy’s doing? I heard several guard, gunshots, and crashes…} She sent to Jared, genuinely concerned. If need be, she could easily escape out a window or something. She would do so only when she was certain, beyond a doubt, that she was of no use to them inside.
