Chapter Six

A/N: My writing is pathetic and petty. I just read this incredible story called Climb the Wind (it ain’t here, though) and realized how much I suck. I don’t care; I do it for fun anyway. Lemon has been requested. I’m workin’ on it! I want this to be an actual story, y’know? Also, I ain’t that great at writing lemon. I’m workin’ on it, I’m gettin’ there!

Jean wandered aimlessly for a while. Then she started asking people if they’d seen Scott. All said no. Finally she got fed up and asked the Professor to find him for her.

Xavier concentrated on finding his adopted son. Locating him, he smiled dec decided to leave him alone. He seemed to be enjoying himself.

Jean saw Xavier smile. “Well?” she demanded. “Where is he?”

“He’s safe, Jean,” Xavier assured her. “He didn’t sleep in the rain.” She was visibly relieved.

“Where is he, then? I ought to go apologize.”

“I think it best to leave it be. He. . .rather requires privacy at the moment.”

“Just tell me where he is, dammit.” She was seriously upset, so he told her.

Scott and Logan were talking about motorcycles when there was a knock at the door. Logan sighed and stood to answer it; it was his room.

He opened it and stared in surprise. “Jeannie! What’re you doing?”

“I wanna see Scott,” she said. “Lemme in.”

“What makes you think he’s here?”

“The Professor told me.” Dammit. No way around that one. “Let me IN, Logan. I’m not playing.”

“Well, what if he doesn’t want to see you?”

“Of course he does.”

“Do you KNOW that?”

Hesitation. Got her. “No. . .But I’m sure he does.”

“You kicked him out into the rain!”

“I didn’t know it was going to rain! Of course he wants to see me, Logan. I’m his lover.”

“If he wanted to see you, he’d know you were here by now and be pushing me outta the way to get to you.”

Busted, Red. “Well, lemme see him anyway.”

Logan turned into the room, where Scott had buried his face in the pillow. “One-Eye, wanna see your girlfriend?”

Hesitation, then a muffled, “No.” Apparently the kid was trying to go back to sleep. He might have been trying to suffocate himself, but let’s deal with one thing at a time, now, right?

Logan turned back to Jean. “See? He don’t wanna talk to ya. Get lost.”

He started to close the door, but Jean psy-blasted it back open and Logan out of the way. She went over to Scott. “Hey, baby,” she whispered. Scott groaned and tried to bury himself further in the pillow. “Look, Scott I’m sorry, okay? Please?”

Scott levered himself up. “No, Jean, not okay. I’ve heard this so many times. You keep promising to stop yelling, to stop fighting, to stop trying to force me to be something I’m not. I’ve heard this for six months. I’m tired of it, sick to death of it. This isn’t working, Jean. Everyone can see it. Hell, LOGAN can see it, no offense, man,” he said over Jean’s shoulder to where Wolverine was picking himself up. Logan waved that none was taken and Scott turned back to Jean. “Maybe things weren’t meant to be between us, cuz I sure as hell can’t live like this. I’m sorry, Jean, but it’s over.”

Jean looked hurt. “What are you going to do then?”

Scott shrugged and fell back into the pillow. “Don’t know, don’t care at this point.”

“Scott. . .”

Scott turned over. “Jean, do the words ‘It’s over, I’m done, goodbye,’ mean anything to you?”

Tears filled her eyes. “After all we’ve been through?”

“You’re killin’ me. All we’ve been through for the past six months is fighting, screaming, and yelling, and me gettin’ kicked out every night. It’s all cuz you want me to change years old habits that you were fine with not even a year ago. I’m sorry. I can’t pretend anymore.”

She stood. “Fine.” She left. Logan was about ready to throw a party.

“Damn, Cyke, that was great! Ain’t never seen you hold your own against her like that! Usually ya give in!”

“Haven’t ever, Logan, and this time I couldn’t give in.”

“Yeah, yeah. Thought you said no classes. Why couldn’t ya give in?”

“One, you were here.” Logan chuckled. “Two, she was suffocating me, I was dying. Three,” Scott shrugged, “I’m ready to move on.”

Logan pulled Scott into his arms again. “At least you got someone to move on to. How’re you gonna disappoint all those teenage girls who’ve been so patiently waiting for this day?”

“Through rude awakening,” Scott mumbled as he snuggled closer to Logan and went back to sleep. Logan smiled and shifted so he could do the same. There weren’t any classes, after all, and the Prof would call if they were needed.
