Chapter Five: On the Rise

[A/N: Going on vacation this weekend and will be moving into my new apt at the end of the next, so this is my last update for at least a week or two. Please review!]

1407 Greymalkin Lane

Charles had contacted his old friend and come to a compromise. The core Brotherhood members arrived at Xavier’s mansion, though by now Magneto had made several changes in the line-up. He still had Mystique, his right hand woman; Rogue, her adopted daughter; and Pyro, whose writing skills would come in handy. However, he had replaced Blob, Toad, and Avalanche with his three children he had recently discovered the existence of. Twins Pietro and Wanda Maximoff had been raised by gypsies after their mother died. Their half-sister Lorna Dane, on the other hand, was a green-haired young woman just out of high school. She’d learned of her latent mutation after her physical for college… which resulted in her rejection from every one she’d applied to. With her father’s assistance, she began learning to use the powers she had inherited from him. She decided to call herself Polaris. The twins became Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch.

Charles had not been idle in recruiting students himself. Polaris joined his classes due to her youth and her newly awakened mutation. He also brought in Ororo Munroe, whom he had originally met when she was a little girl in Cairo. She was now an adult, and an accomplished thief. He found three other young mutants Lorna’s age: Scott Summers, Jean Grey, and Bobby Drake.

Long Island, New York

Bobby sat in the cell, depressed that it was the only way he could be safe, and thought about the crazy events that had brought him there. It was just supposed to be a date. He’d had a crush on Judy Harmon for two years until he finally got the nerve to ask her out and she’d actually said yes. He’d known it was too good to be true. Rocky had always been a bully, but showing up on his date to steal Judy was the last straw for Bobby.

He was still in shock that he’d just reached for the other guy and suddenly ice started forming around him. Judy had been pretty impressed, and the date had actually gone well--he’d even gotten a kiss at the door. But then people started finding out what had happened. An angry mob had formed right outside his door. His parents called the police for help, and the sheriff decided to put him here for his own protection.

He jumped up when there was a loud boom down the hall. Had the mob managed to get in? He started focusing, trying to remember how he had frozen Rocky, but he came up empty. He’d had no idea how it happened in the first place, so he wasn’t sure if he was just supposed to think about it, or flex a muscle, or what. A young man about his own age appeared around the corner. He had brown hair and strange red-lensed sunglasses. He examined Bobby’s cell door, then, looking at the hinges, lifted his sunglasses.
