Chapter 6
SORRY I POSTED THE CHAPTERS BACKWARDS... THIS IS CHAPTER 6
Title: The Winter Of Our Discontent
Author: Lex
Feedback: Please…
Pairing: Remy/ Logan
Rating: PG 13 / Nc 17
Warnings: strong language, sexual situations off and on. M/M
Summary: I found myself angry at the end of the comic Ultimate X-men
#41 when Logan is sent to "deal" with a young mutant boy whose powers
are inadvertently deadly to those around him and so I thought I would
continue the story as I felt it after I finished the book.
Disclaimer: Though I love the X-men they do not belong to me and the
only thing I gain from writing about them is the pleasure of their
company
Author's notes: I guess kind of comic verse and AU. I do not speak
kindly of our mutant band in this story.
The cell phone as quickly as she could out of her bag, Ororo
whispered "Hello?"
She could not suppress the smile as she heard the voice on the other
end.
"I am well. She is well. We are all well ! and do I have to remind
you once again not to call me that?"
She tired to sound stern but her laughter betrayed her emotions. She
noticed now that the rest of them were staring at her, knowing now
that it was her brother and their resident thief on the other end of
the call.
"Well?!" Scott shouted impatiently. "Where the hell are they?"
Looking at her teammates, Ororo stood.
"One moment, brother, I need to find a more private room for this
conversation, I'm afraid you have called during one of Scott's
meetings."
She smiled at the sound of laughter coming through the phone. "I
will give him your most heartfelt apologies, Remy." Then she was
moving out of the room and up to her room. Concern now entered her
voice. "Please tell me where you are, brother and that you are
well. How is Logan ?" She dropped into her favorite chair and got
comfortable.

Remy smiled at his sister's concern and warmed to the fact that she
had left one of Scott's meetings to talk with him.
"I am fine, Stormy. Logan is doing better, I think. He is still
working trough some tings but he is well. I had ta call. Had to
tell y' I missed
y' and dat I was thinkin of y'. Wanted Jubilee to know too that
Logan has not forgotten her. He misses her sometin terrible.
Please tell her dat, ok? Tell her he misses her and is thinkin bout
her?"
In truth Logan had not mentioned Jubilee, or anyone from the
mansion. This worried Remy. He was sure that he did miss his petite
but was worried that he had not talked about her.
"Don' know really where we goin cher', West seems to be de
direction. Tried to get him to come back east. Maine or sometin'.
He likes de woods
dere but he said it was too close. So we goin' west."
Remy lit a cigarette and leaned against the wall outside the room he
was sharing with Logan. He cocked his head to listen for any noise
inside, when he was sure Logan was still asleep he continued the
conversation.
"How dey handlin' dis, Ro? Really. Dey not holdin dis against him?
He needs to do dis… needs to know dat he's a man not an animal, a
killer, a mutant. He forgets he's human sometimes. I tink we all
do, y'know? F'get we just people. People wit all de failins that
make us human beins."
His voice had dropped to a whisper and tears were beginning to form
at the thought of how much pain his lover and his sister.. all of
them really, felt being mutants. The hostility they faced at being
different. He took another pull on his cigarette and tried to get
himself together.
"I'm sorry, stormy, getting to philosophical, me." He smiled and
treid to make his voice cheerful "Will call y' from our next stop.
Send y' a post card or somtin letting y see all de sights along the
way."
Remy suddenly heard a cry from the other side of the door and the
sound of running and objects being thrown about.
"Gotta go Ro" He said quickly. "Will call y' when I can" He dropped
the phone into his coat pocket and ran into the hotel room to check
on Logan.
Remy found him in the bathroom, against the wall, eyes closed,
breathing heavy.
"Cher?" He whispered as he approached the older man.
Kneeling in front of him he reached out and placed a hand on Logan's
cheek, his thumb lightly wiping away the tears that were falling.
"What's wrong Love?" Remy moved closer and removed the hair that had
fallen onto Logan's face. He straddled the man's hips and leaned in
and kissed his lips softly.
"Talk to me, Cher." Keeping his voice low. "Tell me what happened
and I'll make it better, I promise." He leaned in and kissed the man
again talking to him in whispers, telling him how much he loved him
and that it would be all right.
Logan opened his eyes and Remy smiled.
"Welcome back, Cher"
Strong arms wrapped around him and he was pulled into the broad chest
of his lover.
"Gone" Logan's voice was a hoarse whisper. " Thought it was all a
dream, another false memory. I woke up and you were gone and the
room was empty and I thought…" His voice was gone as he pulled
Remy tighter to him. Hands stroking his long hair, fingers tracing
his lips, eyes, cheeks.
Tears were forming in Remy's eyes as he spoke.
"I'm so sorry, Logan. I thought, we get an early start so I packed.
I wanted to call Storm and tell her we were all right and I went
outside so I wouldn't wake y'. I didn't know, Love. I never
would've left…" Lips on his now, kissing him.
"It's ok… its ok.. You're here and its real and your real" More
kissing and more tears. Hands moving over one another, holding,
searching. "I'm here Logan and for good or bad, I'm real. I not
going anywhere, remember? Tol' y' dat last night. Y' can' get rid a
me so easy"
"Please, just hold me, Rem hold me and don't let go" Remy held
tight to Logan. Feeling the older man relax against him. " Not
letting go, Logan. I ain' never gonna let go"

Ororo walked back to the meeting, worry playing at her mind. Remy
had her worried. The way he ended the call was strange. She offered
up a prayer for her brother and her friend and went back to the
others to tell them that the wayward X-men were well. She would
leave out the part of them going west. She didn't want Scott to
search for them. Not yet anyway.
