Chapter Four
“Darlin’, you’d better mean what I think you mean or I’m gonna end up taking cold showers for a month.” He growled.
“Oh, I think I mean exactly what you think.” She smiled and blushed at the unaccustomed suggestiveness of their conversation.
“Whew.” Logan lay back on the sofa and looked up at her from beneath bushy eyebrows that were creased together in a heavy frown. “What you’re asking me to do is very intimate, Marie. I’ll do it. God knows, I’ve dreamed of doing it for years, but I want you to know that if we do this that there is no going back for us. This is it. I want you think about this very carefully before you agree to it, cause if I do this, if we do this, there’s no way in hell I’m ever going to let another man touch you for as long as I live.”
“I don’t need to think about it, Logan. I’ve wanted this forevah.”
“Yes, Darlin’, you do. I’m going to go get a shower because I’ve been sweating like a pig all day and I stink and if we do this thing, I’m not coming to you smelling like I do.”
“Fine, you take your shower, but there’s no more thinking that needs to be done, Logan. That’s it. I thought about it for years and I know what I want. I wouldn’t have worked so hard to get it if I wasn’t sure about it. I think you know me better than that.” She frowned at him as she poked her finger into his chest to emphasize her point.
“Yeah, Darlin’, I do. I’m still taking that shower though. I can smell me and when we do this, I’d rather you not get a whiff of my sweaty ass, if you know what I mean.”
She couldn’t resist giggling at the prospect of getting a snoot full of Logan’s man stench. “Yeah, I don’t think I wanna do that either, sugah. You can use my shower if you like.”
“Nope. You’re gonna use your shower. Then you’re gonna crawl all warm and naked in that bed and wait for me with the door unlocked, wearing nothing but that scarf that I’ve had so many fantasies about. I won’t be long.” Logan lifted her from his lap and rose from the sofa to kiss her once more. “Be ready, Darlin’.”
“My scarf?”
“Yeah, the very one you have on right now. That’s all I want you to have on.” He grinned as he closed the door behind him.
Marie rose from the sofa and met her own gaze in the dresser mirror. There was a blush on her skin and she was smiling so hard that it looked as if her face was about to crack. That this was actually happening was more than she could believe. Logan had been something that she’d always wanted and knew that she could never have. That he was about to return to her room and expected her to be waiting naked in bed for him was a bit of a mind blower for her.
She didn’t hesitate to strip and head for her bathroom where she pinned her hair up and showered, using the cinnamon vanilla body wash that Logan had given her last Christmas. She loved the scent and knew that he did too.
When she turned off the water and reached for a towel she could hear the staccato drum beat of the same music that Logan listened to every time he showered. She would have to ask him later, if she remembered, what that song was. When she climbed into bed she was warm and naked, just as he asked, but had to climb out to retrieve the black silk scarf that he had requested she wear. She looped it around her neck once, allowing the ends to trail down her torso. She climbed back in the bed and turned on the stereo using the bedside remote. Soft strains of music filtered through the room and she sighed. Logan would be there any moment.
Logan leaned against the wall of the shower and groaned at the thought of Marie warm and naked in her bed, waiting for him to come to her. How long had he wanted her? It really did seem like forever. She’d just turned seventeen when the desire for her had hit him like a hot poker in his gut, long after the love had become a part of his soul, something that he lived and breathed every day. He grinned at the CD playing on the stereo in the bedroom. Winger. The first time he’d heard that song, he’d thought of Marie. Seventeen. She was just that age when he’d heard it and the words seemed to be tailor written to fit how he felt for her. When he’d heard Kip Winger sing those lyrics, about the girl coming to him, but stopping to whisper, “I’m only seventeen, I’ll show you love, like you’ve never seen. “ He’d pictured Marie in his minds’ eye whispering those very words to him as she reached for his zipper with those hands encased in black silk and he’d been hard as a rock for days.
He had been so sure that they just didn’t have a chance of anything together, that her mutation was going to be the factor that kept her from forming a romantic relationship with anyone. He couldn’t bear the thought of her suffering any further loss in her life. The whole situation with her parents had left her emotionally raw and he’d known it for years. Her mutation would have been hard enough for her to deal with in and of itself, but loosing her emotional support was just more than she should have had to deal with and he simply had not been willing to add to it.
Logan rinsed quickly, determined not to make her wait any longer. He stepped out of the shower and grabbed a towel to wrap around his waist when he heard it.
“Rogue, Storm, Jean, Cyclops and Wolverine report to the lair immediately.” Charles Xavier’s voice came through the speaker and Marie groaned audibly as she threw back the covers and turned off the stereo.
She dressed quickly in the black leather uniform that was now a staple in her wardrobe and pulled her hair up into a ponytail before donning her gloves and pulling on her boots.
When she stepped into the hallway she met Logan coming from his own room in uniform. She cast him a rueful smile and shrugged. “We’ve waited this long, sugah, I guess a few more hours won’t kill us.”
“Darlin’, I promise you that whoever is responsible for this is going to regret it for a long time to come.” He slipped his arm around her shoulders and pressed a kiss to her temple as they made their way downstairs to the elevator. “This is just a temporary setback.”
“I intend to pick up exactly where we left off. The scarf is still on my bed.” She grinned.
A low growl came from deep inside his chest as he ushered her into the elevator and pulled her against him. “I’m gonna take my time with you, Marie. I’m gonna taste every inch of you and fill myself with your scent.” His nostrils flared. “You used that shower stuff I gave you last year.”
“Yes. I save it for special occasions. I thought you would appreciate it.” She admitted as she pressed her lips against the warm flesh of his neck. “Kiss me before the doors open and we get caught.”
“They’ll know what’s going on the moment they see us together, Darlin’. There’s no hiding it and I don’t intend to. Chuck has known this was coming for years and I think Jean has had an idea. The others will adjust.”
“Kiss me anyway.”
He complied just as the elevator doors slid open admitting Ororo Munroe.
“Well, this is unexpected.” She gasped.
Logan didn’t skip a beat. He kissed her thoroughly before pulling away and gazing for a long moment into her eyes, loving the heat that smoldered there. He then turned to Ororo, “Is it?”
The weather witch grinned. “I guess it isn’t, come to think of it. I am very happy for you both.”
“Thank you, Storm.” Marie whispered as she felt herself flush.
“I only regret that you have both had to wait for such a long time, but I am pleased to see that you’ve met with success in your work with Jean and the Professor, Rogue. You deserve to be happy.” Ororo smiled gently as the doors of the elevator slid open.
“Any idea what this is all about?” Logan asked as he took Marie’s gloved hand and led the way off of the elevator.
“I suspect that it might involve a mutant that the Professor has been keeping a close eye on for some time, but I am not certain.” Storm frowned as she stopped off of the elevator. “I would not be shocked to find that we were all sent to find her and bring her back to the mansion. Her mutation is growing rapidly and the Professor fears that she might meet with trouble if she doesn’t receive the help that she needs.”
They followed Storm into the room that Logan had always thought of as the briefing room, where Chuck called them together to apprise them of whatever given situation they were facing.
“Good afternoon, everyone. We have a situation that requires immediate intervention…..”
“Oh, I think I mean exactly what you think.” She smiled and blushed at the unaccustomed suggestiveness of their conversation.
