I think I need to cut back on my tea intake now... and *GLOMP * for reading/reviewing!

Kurt plucked at Logan's elbow as they hurried down the hall. "But you had to have heard them! You heard me!"
Logan barely suppressed a growl. "Look, Elf, I got more important things to worry 'bout right now than what two girls were yammering about!" He stopped outside of the study door. "Make sure Jean and Scott get their asses over here pronto."
Kurt swallowed a groan at this dismissal. "Logan, bitte! Just ten seconds! Listen to me for ten seconds!"
The older man narrowed his eyes and glared at his foster daughter's boyfriend. He knew that not one moment's peace would be granted him until Kurt was allowed to talk. "Ten seconds. And I'm counting."
He was so dumbfounded at Logan's reversal that all he could do for the first two was stare. Then his brain kicked in and in rapid English, he burst out with, "Aggie and Annie aren't normal!"
Logan blinked. "You new here or something, Elf?" He leaned against the door frame, obviously waiting.
Kurt opted not to point out that his ten seconds had elapsed. "Annie, she was talking like some adult! They're planning something or already planned it!" In clipped tones, he related what he had heard as perfectly as he could, watching Logan's impassive face for some sort of reaction.
"I think you'd better lay off the Pine O Pine1 next time you mop," he finally responded. He opened the door behind him and added, "Go get Red and Scooter, pronto."
Kurt sighed assent and turned away, not even glancing up as he heard the car start up just outside the window. He was torn between sheer annoyance at Logan, anger, and a strong sense of preservation not only of himself but of his friends in the growing face of what seemed to be, in Scott's vocabulary, a Situation. "Fine," he muttered, stalking towards the side hall, "don't believe me. This is how Bad Things happen..." He teleported without a second thought, appearing outside the front door to the boathouse, something he had learned to do since twice interrupting Scott and Jean in flagrante delicto on the sofa. Knocking loudly, growled under his breath, wondering if Logan would have believed Kitty or Scott or even Todd over him.
"What is it?" Scott yawned, flinging open the door. He looked rumpled but mostly awake. "I was trying to nap before work... Dude, you look pissed. What's up?" He opened the door wider and motioned Kurt inside.
"Nein. We're needed in the main house." Kurt tapped his foot impatiently in time with his tail's lashing. "You trust me, ja?"
"Huh? I mean, yeah, why?" He turned away from Kurt and headed into the den, searching for his shoes. "Someone call you a liar or something?"
"Not really," he admitted, following his friend into the nicely dim room. He related his experience with Logan, including the overheard conversation, asking, "Now tell me...doesn't that set off SOME alarm bells in your head?"
"Well, yeah..." He looked up from his wrestling match with a shoelace. "For one, why's a seventeen year old spying on minors?"
"Scott! Bitte!"
"I know, I'm sorry. Yeah, it sounds like something's up. And it makes it even more suspicious that Logan didn't think so."
Kurt made a face. "Maybe he knew the whole time? I mean...the Professor did...did lie to us..."
"I don't think that they would knowingly let people like that into the house." He paused, glancing at Kurt quickly. "Um, you mind if I walk? I really don't feel up to a porting..."
Kurt nodded. "I'll walk with you. I'm so distracted I'd probably end up in Amara's room."
They walked in companionable, if tense, silence towards the back door, standing open to the warm early afternoon daylight. The slight, barely perceptible creaking of the main gates was the only noise that broke the silence, eerie for it's lack of natural ambient sounds. Scott paused and looked over Kurt's head, frowning. "Is that Emma?"
"No idea...it's an Institute car, though." Kurt turned and watched the station wagon speed up the drive, swinging almost violently towards the garage. "Wonder if she'll calm Banshee down?" A slight twinge of nervousness made itself known in the region of Kurt's ribcage.
"He still sulking?" Scott asked neutrally. Something was definitely afoot, he thought. Car doors slammed in the garage and snatches of conversation drifted towards them, the words indiscernible though the tones were angry and strident.
"Um, ja. Sam is still in Theresa's bedroom, last I checked." Kurt glanced up at Scott and asked "Do you think maybe we're getting bad news?"
"When have these meetings ever been for good news?" he sighed.

Kitty could do nothing more than stare at the gaping hole that was Mary, Queen of the Sea Catholic Church.2 Paige was shaking visibly, her breath coming in ragged, wheezing gasps on Kitty's left. On her right, a burly police officer was setting up yellow cordons to keep gawkers back. "Girls, you're gonna have to move," he ordered. "This is off limits."
Kitty found her voice. "Our friend was in there with another guy...he's...Is there a chance?" She was eerily calm, even in her own ears. Her voice did not waver but rather came out as flat and emotionless. Paige choked on a sob, her breathing taking on a rather disturbing, high-pitched quality.
The officer looked over his shoulder towards his supervisor then back at Kitty. "Sorry, miss. You girls need to move."
Kitty took Paige numbly by the arm and led her several feet away. Already, emergency workers were swarming the church, looking for not only the source but survivors. Amazingly, the buildings on either side of the old structure were undamaged save for some scorch marks. Glass crunched under their feet as Kitty drew Paige to a halt. "We need to call home... Someone needs to tell them..."
Paige swallowed a panicked sob and nodded at the Channel Three Action News van. "They probably already know."
Kitty nodded. "Right." She felt numb, too stunned to process much more than the basic information she was seeing. "Okay then. We'll just wait here for Remy."
"Kitty..."
"We'll wait right here."

1 Strongly scented cleanser. Smells NOTHING like pine. Ah, the irony of chemicals.
2 Very popular name for Catholic churches in coastal areas. Interestingly, that title is one given to Asherah, Aphrodite and several other goddesses pre-Xianity that they superimposed Mary over. Live and learn.
