Remy watched Logan as he went through his rampage but something drew his attention away from the blood bath. This pulsing light. Soothing and calming. But still...he could feel Logan's sadness and it made him feel torn. He wanted to stay, yet he could hear voices of the ones he'd known before. Especially his brother. Henri. And his mother. He couldn't see her yet he knew her voice. So soft, almost like a song.
"Mama," he whispered as he headed towards the blinding light.
"REMY!" Logan shouted out in through the dark haze of his mind, startling Remy into looking back. It was night time now where Logan was. Logan was thrashing around on the bed, lost in a dream and screaming, sweating. Sobbing as if he were lost and confused child.
Remy gasped softly as tears filled his eyes. He glanced back at the light which was pulsing still, beckoning him. Still he refused. Logan was holding him here in this place like an anchor. He always had been. He was his anchor when he felt lost in the seas of emotions, his shield when he needed it and his rock when he needed the strength.
So he fell. Fell back to earth though he was dead and entered into Logan's dream. "Logan. Cher. I'm right here babe. Remy's here with you. I'm in your heart. Don't cry cher. Remy's got ya," he whispered as he went to the small child of Logan's dream.
"Remy...Remy. You...you're gone. You left me! How could you leave me?" the little boy asked on a sob.
"Remy didn' wanna leave you cher...but sometimes...sometimes it's outta our hands. But don' worry cher. I'll see you again. I'll come back to ya every night in yer dreams. And den I'll see you in heaven," he whispered before cupping the young boy's cheek, brushing away his tears before tilting his head up to look at his sharp blue eyes. So blue you would think they were chunks of arctic ice.
Suddenly the boy grew into the man and the man pulled Remy into his arms and held on tightly. "Don't let go Rems. Stay here with me...please," he asked, his voice breaking just as his heart had. "Don't leave me."
Remy closed his eyes and fell into the embrace and kissed him softly. "I won' cher...Remy'll never leave you...so long as you hold him in your heart," he said, placing a hand over the man's chest where he felt the strong, steady beat.
Just then Logan woke up and wept. Remy watched feeling hopeless and helpless as he watched his husband deal with his grief, tears trailing down his own face.
A week passed as if it were a day for Remy. To Logan it drug on. He didn't eat, he didn't drink and he wanted to do nothing but sleep. His heart was shattered and he knew he would die soon. But at least he'd die knowing that his husband had gotten justice.
Every night Remy would come to him and try comforting him. But he could tell that he was getting weak. He knew he couldn't stay on earth much longer. Even if it was just for Logan's sake.
Logan could tell too and he vowed to himself that once Remy stopped coming, he would die.
Two months later, that time finally came. Remy stopped coming. He hadn't the strength to enter the man's dreams. He stayed in Limbo and waited...watching, listening. Feeling the pain of the guilt as memories filled him here in this place between.
Not all of the memories were bad though. Some of them were good. Especially towards the end. Especially when he'd found the love of his life. The one that had saved him in more ways then one and the one that had turned his life around.
Towards the last of these memories he saw a glimpse of the present. It had been a week since Remy had stopped appearing in Logan's dreams. His body had become frail and he'd just given up. Then as he lay there, falling into slumber, his heart gave out. He stopped breathing. Finally, the great Wolverine had found peace in his final resting place.
The thing that Wolverine had wished for over his nearly 200 some odd years of life had finally come to pass. He was released from his body. He smiled when he entered into Limbo, reaching Remy's side. Remy returned the smile and held out his hand, touching Logan's.
They didn't say a word. None were necessary. The light grew bright...and then they knew...they were finally going home.
