Chapter Three

Warren Sr. hung up the phone once he heard the southern girl’s end of the line go dead after a few minutes of incessant: “Hello, miss? Are you there’s?” His blue eyes slipping closed. He didn’t really look at mutants as a disease anymore. Not after his son, codenamed Archangel saved his life at Alcatraz. He didn’t think he could ever possibly look at mutants in a bad way again… Even though he had gained acknowledgement in the business world in such a bad manner… Or, such a bad manner now that he looked back on it.

Rogue, on the other hand was out cold, as for once the unbearable crawling ceased. Storm had been passing through, and had seen the incident, gathering the southern belle in her arms and taking her to the Med-Bay where a woman by the name of Madelyne Prior, a woman who strikingly resembled Jean Grey. “Yes, they are.” Storm replied. “What do you think is happening to her?”

Madelyne smiled. “I got a letter from Worthington Labs this afternoon, and I guess the cure seems to only be temporary, particularly for strong mutants like Rogue. According to some monitoring after she took the cure…” At this point Madelyne had pulled Storm over to the computer to show her an animated diagram of Rogue’s mutating cells.

“She’s evolving, faster than usual, given her body is struggling against the suppressant of her mutation. She’s going to have some new abilities, that’s for sure. But I’m not so sure if they’ll show themselves right away or not. But she is getting her absorption back.”

As Storm and Madelyne walked back over to the examination table where Rogue lay, they watched in amazement as her white streak slowly but surely crept back visibly into the brown…
