I own nothing of Avengers or W.I.T.C.H and make no money from this work of boredom.
Her Regrets, His Rage
And the boredom continues from the perspective of Airman First Class Wilma Vandom.
This isn't how it was supposed to be. It went so wrong so fast. But the way it started it wasn't gonna go great anyway. I started having visions of him seven months ago. It took so long to focus enough to get his name from them. Then when I had my last vision it happened. Everything went cloudy and I got a horrible feeling in my stomach. We were just supposed to find him and bring him back to base. But then they attacked. Multiple locations, we couldn't worry about one or two people when they were threatening so many. So we split into four groups. My team was to defend the White House, as that was where most of their forces seemed to be focused. Rescue and War Machine were sent to guard parts of jersey where large tanks seemed to be destroying random apartment buildings. Team three was a squad of remote controlled Mandroids that were sent to stop a fleet of bombers headed in the direction of Europe. And last, team four was just Iron Man sent to the Bronx to stop some maniac who was somehow leveling buildings and everything else in his path. In retrospect he should of had backup but the attack was so sudden we didn't have time to wait.
And now here we are, three months after that horrible day. Hay Lin lost her arm, Tony's dead and the Bronx and half of Manhattan were destroyed. I've been sitting here almost nonstop by his side ever since he got out of surgery. It took a week of rotating surgical teams to put him back together. And to top it all off, what are we gonna tell him about his sister. This can't possibly get any worse.
"EEEEEEAAAARRGH!!!!!" No, how can she do this after all he's been through! I can't stay here for this. I mouth an apology to him that I hope he notices and run from the room. My unit is waiting outside. I run into their waiting arms and am about to tell them what's going on when Taranee cuts me off "We were listening. I'm still listening." "What are they saying now" I'm not sure I really want to know. "He doesn't seem to remember anything from that day. The Colonel is gonna use the memory recovery system." I sigh and start walking to my quarters. Cornelia reaches for me "Are you just gonna go." I appreciate her concern but..."There's nothing to do until the process is over and he wakes up. All I can do is wait" I turn around and head to my room. All I can think about is how many blanks I'll have to fill when David wakes up.
I tried to sleep but it wasn't happening, to much on my mind. Paramount of these things were how I would tell David about his sister. 'WIIUWIIUWIIUWIIU' Why's the alarm going off!? "All units security protocol X. Repeat, protocol X." X? That means hostiles in the base. Did the creatures looking for David find us? I run for the chamber where he's being held and my heart drops when I get there. "What the hell happened here, report" no response. The wall to the chamber is gone and there are unconscious guards in various heaps on the floor and against the wall. Judging by the hole in the wall David busted himself out. Where is everyone. 'SMASH' I here a crash in the distance. I run through the hall and as I turn the corner I see David surrounded by my unit. The helmut of the armor is retracted and I can see the rage in his eyes. "WHERE IS SHE!!! Where's my sister!" that question cuts through my heart like adamantium. I run up and try to talk to him "David, you need to calm down. This doesn't help you or anyone else" he looks in my direction and smirks. "I hardly think any of you are in any position to tell me ANYTHING! I already took out a squad of your pathetic guards, I hardly think you ladies have any shot." His hands are glowing but he's not pointing them at us so I assume he isn't aware of the weapons yet. I need to act before he seriously hurts someone. I get Taranee's attention and we telepathically formulate a plan. I charge him and pin him against a wall. Meanwhile when he's off balance Hay Lin using her wind magic and Cornelia using her telekinesis help me hold him. And finally Irma using her mental manipulation and Taranee using her telepathy try to calm his mind. Irma calls out "It's not working, his mind is to muddled from the memory recovery. We can't calm him down." "Dammit, I didn't want to gamble on this but we can't hold him until he's calm." I put my hand to his chest, look into his eyes and I apologize as I send a rather large bolt of electricity through his chest. He passes out in a clanging heap on the floor. As we straiten him out Rescue comes in.
"Jarvis, what's his status?"
"Vital signs are steady Ms. Potts"
"Good, activate emergency lockdown on the Bleeding Edge armor"
"Negative, cannot activate lockdown. Nanites have fully integrated with subjects brainstem. They can no longer take orders from anyone but the current host. My apologies."
"Dammit" Pepper wasn't happy. She ordered David be taken to the emergency holding cell in the bowls of the base where extreme measures of restraint could be implemented. We watched as heavily armed security detail came and took him away. Pepper turned to me "Vandom, you and your unit should go get changed. You're all a mess and the colonel wants to see you." What a mess, I guess Cornelia was right. I should have stayed close by. We head to our quarters and change into our uniforms and I go to see the 'Colonel'. She was adamant that we treat David as a prisoner of war but I fought her tooth and nail to treat him like the unfortunate victim that he was. I guess I was wrong. When I got to her office her receptionist waved me right in. And when the door closed behind me I waited for her to reprimand me, to yell at me and quote protocol about potential internal threats. I waited, but it never came she just walked up and hugged me. And all I could do is cry. I look back at the door and she giggles "It's a little late to worry about that isn't it." I look into her eyes "Force of habit. So what now?" I ask dreading the answer. "You tell me, this is your show. Your visions brought us to this point." I start to sob "I don't know. This wasn't part of the visions. Nothing that has happened since three months ago was part of the visions." She goes and sits at her desk "Do you want me to handle this from here then" I start to feel sick to my stomach "NO, not after what you did to him. He'll probably attack you on the spot. I'll resolve this." "Then go. But make sure he's not a threat to us, or what I did before won't matter, will it." She turns her seat to the window and the door opens behind me "Yes ma'am" I right myself and leave her office.
As I walk through the base I begin to wonder if I should yield to the colonel. This has gone pretty bad from the outset. But then again if she doesn't get the answers she wants from him she may just lock him away for good and I can't let that happen. When I reach the chamber there are a compliment of soldiers, my unit and War Machine outside the room. "I don't remember scheduling a party, what are you all doing here" Rhodey walks up to me and says plainly "We're here to make sure he doesn't run amok through the base again." "You mean 'put him down if he gets loose' don't you?" Hay Lin pushes past him "Look, we're not happy about this either but you know how big a potential threat he is given the methods used to save him, unfortunate victim or not." And while they may be right I don't care much for their candor. I give her a half hearted nod and walk into the room hoping none of this will be needed.
I never liked this room. I know it's meant to be a holding cell but at it's core this thing is a death trap. The walls are made of multiple layers, lead, adamantium, carbinadium, vibranium and then another layer of lead. The hope being who ever tried to escape would die from the carbonadium radiation if they were able to penetrate the adamantium. And if they got past the vibranium well, we'd be fucked anyway as the resulting destruction would level half the base. The restraints in the chair David was in were made of adamantium and the chair itself was made of secondary adamantium, not quite as strong as the real thing but still generally tough enough. There he sat, now topless and still unconscious.
"Jarvis, what is the status of skin regeneration."
"We are at sixty-five percent and should be done in the next hour or so."
"Skin regeneration? How fucked up was I." I'm a little startled, I put more than enough energy in that to kill a person and he's up in less than an hour. "How long have you been awake?" his eyes still closed and his head down "Since they were wheeling me down here" dammit, less than ten minutes "why am I restrained again?" I smile "You took out twenty highly trained soldiers the last time you were unrestrained." He pauses for a moment, picks up his head and shakes of the fog of the electric jolt "Sorry about that. I just want to find my sister." I frown but I'm really trying not to "If I'm here then you must have brought her too right." I'm not sure what to tell him, or how much. Given the fact he was clueless of our existence before today, I decided a little demonstration was in order. I pulled out the Heart and opened a portal "This is a pretty light show but it doesn't answer my question." I walked through the portal and while he wondered where I went I slapped him upside the head "We brought you here through a portal just like this one, but while the last of my unit was coming through the large worm robot exploded. Trisha pushed her into the portal. The blast forced the portal closed and severed her arm." We stayed there in silence for what felt like an eternity, finally he just broke down and cried. I walked over and consoled him as best I could. Since he was sitting I had to sit in his lap to hug him. It was a bit awkward but I don't think he even cared I was there, which kinda hurt. But I could hardly hold it against him given the circumstances. We sat there for a while even after he stopped crying, finally he picked up his head "How big?" I was confused by the question "What?" "The blast, how big was the blast?" I turned my gaze to the door, again wondering if I should have let the colonel deal with this "HEY, how big?" he persisted. I turned back to him "The Bronx and half of manhattan are gone." I'd never seen anyone go so pale before. What happened next surprised me "I'm sorry." I cocked an eyebrow "Why are you sorry David." Suddenly I heard banging on the door "For this." And before I could respond his restraints opened and the armor activated. He grabbed me by the throat and flung me against the wall. And as the door opened I realize he was just buying time to figure out how to work the armor.
Okay this came out better I think. Violence in the next chapter and maybe sex. For the record the wonky stuff I tagged won't come into play until later. And I'm thinking maybe more chapters than originally planned. Next time back to our unfortunate victim.
