The following day seemed to drag. All Charles had done so far was discuss what actions to take and who should be sent back to the woods to see if Sabertooth was still lurking there. Scott eagerly suggested that Logan be the one to go and Logan agreed, but Charles wasn’t too keen on that idea. He knew what Sabertooth did to Logan, by just mentioning his name. It was bad enough having someone as vicious as Sabertooth wondering around, they didn’t need to add a berserk Wolverine to the mix.
With every passing minute they wa on on discussions Emily’s impatience increased and her tolerance was wearing thin. Even though she respected Charles and his judgment, she couldn’t wait any longer. He still hadn’t devised a plan and Emily decided in the morning she’d do it her way. The only problem would be leaving without anyone knowing.
That night she found it hard to sleep and started to roam the halls. Fragments from the night of her escape from Sabertooth kept flashing in her head. She wished she could have remembered more than she had, but deep down she was glad she couldn’t. Knowing exactly what had happened would have only fed into her anger even more and right now she was furious enough.
Soon Emily found herself outside the school’s gym. She peered inside and saw that it was empty, and then noticed a kickboxing bag in the far corner. Emily grinned. It was exactly what she needed right now, a chance to let out her frustrations, even if it was temporary.
Emily stomped across the gym to the bag. She hesitated for a moment, massaging her fists and cracking her knuckles. She took a deep breath and growled fiercely, before lunging at the bag.
Vigorously, Emily swung at the bag, her fists brutally smacking against the three hundred pound leather bag. The chains that suspended the bag clanked together and echoed through out the gym, as the bag swayed erratically.
She was running on pure adrenalin and anger, sending blow after blow upon the bag. Her knuckles where bright red and the pain from the force she was using shot up her arms. Still though she continued her vicious attack, growling and panting. Nearly all coherent thought was gone, as she zeroed in on the bag, that she hadn’t even sensed someone come into the gym.
“Can’t sleep?”
Emily froze and quickly spun around, to see Logan standing a feet eet behind her. As much as she came to like his presence, right now she couldn’t be bothered. In fact the mere sight of him only seemed to frustrate her more. Shew hew he’d say something to piss her off, whether it was intentionally or not.
“What the hell do you want?” Emily snapped.
“Calm down darlin’, I just wanted to talk to you about today,” Logan replied.
“Well I’m tired of talking, so why don’t you leave me alone,” Emily growled.
“Hey darlin’, I know the professor pissed you off, but he’s right,” Logan stated sternly, “trust me; Sabertooth is not someone you want to go fucking with!”
“Why the fuck do you care?” she asked.
“I don’t,” he snarled, but that was a lie. He didn’t want to loose Emily like he lost Jean, especially since this time he knew he could do something about it. He had grown to care about her so much, more than he thought possible, that he was willing to say anything to help keep her safe. It was just something he did, protect those he cared for.
“Just do us all a favor and don’t go doing something stupid, like getting yourself killed,” Logan continued firmly.
“What makes you think I’d get myself killed?” Emily asked furiously, appalled by his apparent disbelief in her abilities.
As much as Logan tried not to let Emily’s anger eat away at his short temper, he couldn’t. His defensiveness and crude behavior quickly surfaced. He knew she was upsee moe moment he walked in and prepared himself, but there was only so much he could tolerate.
“I don’t know, maybe the fact that you barely got out alive the first time,” Logan stated callously.
Emily’s brow narrowed and she glared fiercely at him. She prided herself on her strength and ability to fight and for the first time it had been compromised and that did not go over easily with her. The fact that Logan was now throwing that in her face enraged her even more.
She could feel her muscles tighten and her heart pounding harshly against her chest. She clenched her sore fists and started panting again. She tried to worn him, but now the animal inside her was too enraged and her claws and fangs began to grow.
Within seconds Emily pounced on Logan. She knocked him to the floor, straddling his upper chest and digging her knees into the bends of his arms. She growled ferociously, and then plunged her one-inch claws into his chest.
Logan roared from the sharp pain, and then snapped and his claws immediately extracted. He ripped his arms out from under her and grabbed her wrists. The sharp points of his claws grazed her stomach, as he torn her hands from him. Emily winced from the pain of his claws slicing her flesh and could feel the warmth of her blood trickle down her stomach, but still she tried to fight free.
He growled and tossed her across the room. Her back slammed into the floor and she slid towards the door. As Logan jumped to his feet, Scott raced into the gym, coming to a halt between them. His attention quickly landed on Logan and without hesitation, raised his hand to his visor. A narrow red beam, blasted out from behind his visor, striking Logan in the chest. Logan soared back into the air; hit the wall and fell to the floor, knocking him out.
Emily qui cam came back to her senses. Her eyes widened, as she stared at Logan’s still body. Despite her actions and how pissed she had been, the last thing she wanted was to hurt him. After all it wasn’t entirely his fault. He just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time and she felt horrible.
“You’re hurt,” Scott uttered with concern, as he stared down at her stomach.
“I’m fine, it’s just a scratch,” Emily replied, shaking her head.
“Are you sure?” Scott asked, not believing her answer. If he knew Logan as well as he did, no one just got a scratch from him.
“Yes!” she snapped, still trying to rationalize what happhappened.
“Then come on, let’s go,” Scott said, motioning to the door.
“No!” she shouted, as she stood and began to head towards Logan, “he could be…”
“He’s fine,” Scott assured her, as he hurried after her and grabbed her arm, “he’ll come out of it in a few hours.”
“So you’re just going to leave him here?” Emily exclaimed, staring up at him in shock.
“Trust me, he’s better off waking up here than in the medilab. At least here, there’s no one around to go berserk at. Now come on,” Scott stated, tugging at her arm.
Emily sighed and glanced back at Logan. She still felt awful at what she had done, but something else was bothering her now. He could have easily have killed her when his arms broke free, but he didn’t. His reaction was completely out of character and she didn’t know what to make of it.
However, maybe it was for the best she thought, finding herself hoping he wouldn’t wake until after she was gon the the morning. It hurt to think about leaving him and probably not coming back, despite being alive or not, but it would be better that way.
Reluctantly Emily nodded and followed Scott out of gym.gym. She questioned Scott as to how he knew and he told her that Charles had sensed something wrong and sent him to make sure nothing happened. She nodded again and before Scott to ask her one more time is she was okay, she hurried off to her room.
