Chapter 3

Kitty walked down the hall from her room to Rogue's. She knocked on her friend's door and waited. Kurt joined her a few moments later. He was yawning and had a serious case of bed head. There was no answer from inside the room. Kitty looked around quickly before phasing her head through the door. She jerked it back and turned to Kurt.
"Why don't you head down to the breakfast room and I'll meet you there in a few." She said. "Rogue's not ready yet so I'll just hurry her along." Kurt nodded and grinned. Before he left, he kissed her firmly on the mouth and gave her rear an affectionate squeeze.
"See you there, Katzchen." He replied. Then he turned and walked back toward the elevators. She knew how tired he must be since they'd spent very little of the previous night sleeping. Kitty waited till the elevator doors had closed before phasing all the way through the door and into Rogue's room. The place was in a shambles, to say the least. There were blankets and sheets littering the floor with only the fitted sheet still on the mattress.
Rogue was lying with her head hanging off the foot of the bed and her feet resting on the pillows. She was wearing only the body stocking that Kitty had thrown at her durning their shopping expedition. The room smelled like sex. Kitty was familiar with the aroma, having left her own hotel room with the window open and the fan on, despite the frigid temperatures, in order to diperse it. She also spotted an empty foil packet stng ong out from under one of the sheets. She looked around and saw a second a few feet away and a third, strangely enough, underneath the writing desk that sat in the corner. She didn't think she wanted to know what had gone on at the writing desk, since there was also an empty pillowcase crumpled up on the floor.
"Rogue?" She approached the limp form on the bed. "Should I start checking the closet for the team of slaves that you must have stashed here?" The white streaked head rose slowly and a single, bleary eye peeked out from the mass of tangles.
"Slaves?" She croaked. Then her eye widened and she jumped up to her knees, grabbing the naked pillow from the floor and holding it in front of herself. "Kitty, what are you talking about?"
"Honey," Kitty said, "Kurt is an acrobat, we've just made up after fighting for almost two months, we had a hotel room to ourselves for the past twelve hours, and we didn't do as much damage to the room as you have." She spared a glance over her shoulder at the desk. "And do I want to know about what happened on the desk?"
"No." Rogue said with a blush. "But Ah think Ah might have sprained my shoulder on it." She rubbed her arm with a wince. Kitty shook her head and clucked her tongue. She nudged one of the empty condom packets with the toe of her shoe.
"It does appear that you took precautions." She added.
"Like there's any alternative?" Rogue said, clearing her throat and scooting off the edge of the bed. "'Caution' was definitely the word of the evening."
"So who's the lucky guy?" Kitty asked, glancing around the room. "Or is he still here?"
"Nope, he's gone, like a thief in the night." Rogue said, looking at the floor.
"You didn't!" Kitty exclaimed. Rogue peeked guiltily through her tangled hair. "Oh my God! You jumped the Cajun?" Her look of fascinated disbelief had Rogue speechless under the scrutiny. She stammered a little, trying to come up with an excuse. Then sighed and her shoulder slumped in defeat. She nodded, not bothering to raise her eyes. "Were you planning it the whole time you were talking about being a virgin for life yesterday?" Kitty looked a little hurt. Rogue shook her head.
"He was following us all day, then he sorta jumped me in my room."
"Did he hurt you?" Kitty's stance turned defensive. "I'll rip his-"
"No!" Rogue said, interrupting her friend. "Ah took a bath and he was here when Ah came out of the bathroom. He wanted to tell me about Quicksilver and his role in Lance's attack on the house."
"Quicksilver?" Kitty looked a little confused. "I thought we already knew that."
"We did, but apparently Wanda wasn't pleased at her brother's actions and told Remy about it. He also said that Wanda thinks Pietro has a grudge against me." She left out the part about the grudge being the result of a twisted crush.
"Wanda always seemed to be a bit more of a thinker than the others." Kitty mused. Then she reached out and touched Rogue's stocking clad shoulder. Her grip was firm. "Kurt's going to get suspicious and come back here if I don't get downstairs soon." Impulsively, she hugged her friend, it was awkward considering the pillow that she still held, but it was a hug nonetheless. "I'm getting some ice cream today, the details will keep till then, but you are definitely going to spill tonight."
"Promise." Rogue replied, eager to finally have something to share. "But just you. Don't tell Kurt or anyone else, okay?"
"No problem on this one." Kitty turned to leave, before she reached the door, she turned back and bit her lip thoughtfully. "One thing. You'd better take a really long shower, or avoid getting within ten feet of Logan. Trust me on this." She winked and left, opting to open the door rather than phase through it and risk running into someone in the hall. Rogue walked slowly to the bathroom, secretly pleased at the soreness in her hips and thighs. These were muscles she didn't use very often, and they'd had a serioorkoorkout. She turned on the shower and stripped before pouring a liberal amount of her shower gel onto a loofah and got to work, scrubbing away the evidence of the previous night.
Kitty joined Kurt at the breakfast table and found that Kurt had already ordered her some coffee. She slid into an empty seat and smiled at her boyfriend.
"What do you have to do today, Mien Katzchen?" He asked, sipping from his own cup. He looked a little more awake now.
"I have to stop by the Institute and return Amara's clothes that she lent me, then I wanted to check out the construction site in case anything of mine is salvagable." She spoke with a steady voice, but Kurt could see the flash of pain that she tried to hide. She and his sister had worked hard to make their first apartment as homey as possible and now everything was gone.
"Staring from scratch is never an easy thing, Liebchen." Kurt said, gently, palcing a hand over one of hers. She smiled at him.
"It's a lot easier than I thought." She said. "Yesterday when I went around to get the essentials, I was thinking about everything that I've lost. My favorite stuffed animal, my pictures of my family, my clothes and shoes and cd collection. Some things are irreplacable, like the pictures and some of the gifts I've been given through the years, but not the feelings." She reached out and touched his cheek. "The reason these things were so important is because they reminded me of family and friends anw muw much I love them. I'll miss having the symbols, but I won't be without the feelings and meanings." She giggled nervously and sat back in her chair. "Listen to me, I sound like a Hallmark card."
"You're right, Kitty." Kurt replied. "You can't replace the symbols of your past, but you still have the memories they represent." He stroked her cheek. "It's a very adult way of looking at things."
