chapter 3

Storm knew the instant he came into her room. She didn’t hear him opening her door or his silent footfalls, she smelled him. His scent was a combination of his cigars and his body’s natural scent. It was a pure male fragrance, one that she loved.

Holding herself still she waited silently as he took off his boots, absently noting their muted thump as they fell to the floor. When he was done he slid into her big bed and curled his large body behind hers. It wasn’t until his arm snaked its way around her waist that she let him know she was awake.

Covering his arm with her own she murmured softly, “Are you ok?” They both knew he wasn’t. Something had driven him to her again.

“You smell good Stormy…” he mumbled softly in her hair, ignoring her question. The off hand compliment made her smile. Of course she smelled good…she made sure she did every night just in case he decided to visit.

“Thank you but I’m sure you didn’t come all the way up here to tell me how nice I smell. Did you and Rogue have another fight?”

“No…” he mumbled into her neck and she felt his chestand and behind her as he took in a deep breath. “What is that smell…apples?”

“Pears…what’s wrong?” She tried to turn in his arms but he wouldn’t let her.

“Nothing’s wrong…I just want to spend some time with an old friend…”

She knew he was lying. She could sense the agitation inside him, seething restlessly. Wisely enough she didn’t push him, he would talk when he was ready. He always did.

“You know what I hate the most?” he asked her suddenly.

“Losing?”

“Besides that…” he said dryly and she smiled softly.

“Tell me…”

“I hate changes….especially when thinge pee perfect.”

“Nothing’s ever really perfect Remy…” she began sensibly unable to help but wonder where all of this was coming from.

“We are…just us. Me and you…no interference… no changes…” he muttered.

“Remy…” Storm suddenly knew what he was getting at. He was still upset about Logan. Twisting in his arms she cupped his strong jaw in one hand, unable to resist caressing it just briefly. The stubble on his face scraped against her palm and she felt goose bumps rise along her arms in response. Even though she couldn’t see his eyes she knew he was staring down at her.

“Nothing will ever take away what we have…nothing. I won’t allow anyone to take you away from me. Rogue didn’t stop our friendship and I won’t let Logan. Whatever changes come they will be inconsequential ones…nothing to get upset about”

Even as she tried to soothe him she wondered why she simply didn’t just tell him the truth. There was nothing going on between her and Logan.

“I know that chere…Nothing will separate us.” he tried to sound like his usual cocky self but she heard the note of relief in his voice. A small smile graced her lips, if he only knew how much he meant to her he would realized that she would never let him go.

They laid like that in each other arms for a long while until Remy stirred slowly. “I have to go…Rogue is going to come looking for me any minute now. She doesn’t…” he began then stopped.

“…like you to be here with me” Storm finished, “I understand.” Storm did understand but that didn’t mean she liked it. If Remy was hers there was no way she would allow him to lay in the arms of another woman no matter what the reason.

Then she remembered what she promised Logan she would do. She was supposed to be distancing herself from the Cajun. God but it was hard to say no to hi
“M
“Maybe she’s right though…we do spend too much time together.”

He spun around to face her. “What do you mean?” His voice was wary.

“Nothing…just that maybe we should try to distance ourselves for the sake of our…partners.” She swallowed over the blatant lie. “Rogue doesn’t like it much and even though Logan hasn’t mentioned it I’m sure he won’t stand for your late night visits for long.”

“I thought you said nothing would change!” he accused.

“It won’t!” she protested even though she knew that it had to, for the sake of what they could have. “We will still have each other but I think the visits should stop for a while…or at least until Logan has time to adjust to our…bond” The look on his face made her sigh. “Remy…nothing will change…”

“Then what do you call this…”

“Remy please don’t be difficult…” she didn’t want this but she had to try.

“Fine…whatever you want Stormy” he left abruptly.

Storm sighed dejectedly after his sudden departure. Knowing him he would sulk for a few days since he couldn’t have his way. God loving him was hard. With a groan she fell back on her bed and tried to sleep.
