Epilogue

Grey Frost
Chapter 24: Epilogue

************************************************************************

It had been eight months since Emma Frost left the Xavier Institute and much had transpired. Mutants had been revealed to the world, Apocalypse had risen and been defeated, and the X-men had grown a great deal. All the while Emma rebuilt her life after the Hellfire Club and after her first true love in Scott Summers.

Even though she never said goodbye face-to-face, she kept in contact with them over the months that followed. Scott and Jean’s relationship blossomed quickly. They were so happy and passionate with each other. After everything they went through to come together they refused to waste a single second of their lives. They shared a love Emma still couldn’t understand, but it really seemed to do them both good.

Naturally, they turned into a very sexual couple. After Emma trained Scott to be an expert lover and after Jean opened herself up, they really hit it off. Jean talked to Emma at great lengths about how great it was. Having a psychic link really made it special and they were quickly gaining a reputation throughout the mansion. They endured teasing, but at the same time they gained some respect. And they deserved it.

At times, Emma gave Jean tips and fashion advice. But she never went into the past at great lengths, referencing anything that could have reminded her of Scott. It was still difficult at times to move on because she really did love him. He had a great impact on her life and he remained close to her, but he just couldn’t love her the way he loved Jean. For a while she was really down and drowned herself with work. But as time went by she came to see that it was for the better.

Now Emma was the headmistress of the newly formed Academy of Tomorrow. With her vast financial resources and some help from Professor Xavier, she was on track to start making a positive difference in the world. There were many young mutant children out there who were scared and wary in a world that hated and feared them. The X-men taught her that it was possible to change things for the better with hard work and a noble dream. It seemed a fitting way for the former White Queen to make up for what she had done.

Her office was nearly set. She had just finished unloading the last of her supplies into her new main administrative building. Looking out the window, Emma Frost smiled to herself. The new campus was coming along nicely. Chicago was the perfect place to start anew. Even with few teachers and limited resources, she was optimistic about the future.

‘You’re on your way, girl. You’ve come this far. Now it’s your turn to do good.’

Stretching her limbs, she decided to break for lunch. Then she heard a knock at her door and two familiar faces stepped in.

“Hey, there’s our new Headmistress!” said Jean happily.

“Looking beautiful, yet powerful as always,” smiled Scott.

Emma was shocked. She hadn’t seen Scott and Jean since she left and here they were, holding hands and greeting her with open arms. She couldn’t help but be smile herself. Her friends had come back.

“Scott! Jean, darling! This is unexpected,” said the former White Queen.

“You’re about to open the doors to your new life’s work. What kind of friends would we be if we didn’t drop by to wish you well?” said Scott.

Emma’s smile grew wider. Rather than question it, she gave her friends a big hug. Despite everything that had come between them, they were still her friends and she cared for them as they cared for her.

“You’re the sweetest friend and ex-boyfriend a girl could ask for, you know that?” said Emma.

“Uh…thanks,” said Scott awkwardly, “So how have you been? We haven’t seen you since…well, you know.”

“I’ve been hanging in there,” she said with a sigh, “Granted, it was rough for a while. But I really think my life is back on track. Being with the X-men showed me many things, but one thing that always stood out was following your dream.”

“Yes, I can see you’ve taken that one to heart,” said Jean, looking around Emma’s office, “Starting your own academy and opening your doors to mutants everywhere is pretty ambitious.”

“Well I always wanted to be a teacher growing up. But as you well know, a lot of competing forces got in the way. Now I’m ready to start over and do something positive for the world. I owe it to myself and all the little kids out there who were just as scared as I was.”

Scott and Jean were amazed at how much Emma Frost had grown. From a seductive ex-stripper to an ambitious dreamer, she was an amazing woman. She helped bring them together and opened their minds. It wasn’t just sex, it was everything. And if the way they were holding hands was any indication to Emma, they were doing just fine.

“So what about you two?” she asked, “Everything going well on your end?”

“I’d definitely say so,” said Jean, smiling at her boyfriend, “We talked to the Professor. Scott and I plan on moving in together before we start college.”

“Moving in, huh?” she grinned, “That’s a pretty big step.”

“I know. But I think we’re ready for it,” said Scott, smiling back at Jean, “We’ve been living under the same roof since we were twelve. Living in the same room is a logical step.”

“Plus, it’s a hell of a lot easier than sneaking into one another’s room for a little intimacy,” added Jean.

“Yeah, can’t forget about that,” laughed Scott, slipping his arm around his girlfriend’s waist

Emma laughed as well. It seemed as though they took all that sexual training she had given them to heart. They looked so happy and relaxed, the tell-tale signs of a good sex life. And if they were going to share a room now it wouldn’t be long before it got even more serious. Not that it surprised her.

“So everything seems to be going well for you,” said Jean.

“I guess you can say that,” said Emma, sitting back on her desk, “It’s still hard at times. As nice as it is starting over again, I just can’t help but think I’ll never find anyone else.”

“Hey, come on. Don’t be like that,” said Scott, his tone becoming more serious, “I know there’s someone out there for you. There’s someone for everyone.”

“I don’t know,” said Emma distantly, “Not that I regret our relationship or anything, I just don’t know if I’ll ever be able to get that close to another person. It was hard enough ending it even if it was for the better. But being alone just gets to me.”

“Then you just have to put yourself out there,” said Jean with a reassuring gesture, “You’re a good person Emma, mistakes or not. You deserve love as much as anybody else. I can’t tell you when it’s going to happen. But I can guarantee it well.”

“Yeah right, like some guy will just walk in and…”

But before Emma could finish, she heard another knock at the door. And when she turned to see who it was, her world stopped for a moment and her eyes widened with that unmistakable gleam Scott and Jean knew all too well.

“Is this the main office? I’m Warren Worthington III. I’m here for the teaching position.”

Emma lost her voice for a moment as a tall handsome man with long blonde hair, a well-sculpted body, and a pair of angelic wings stood before her in a neatly pressed suit. She remembered talking to this man over the phone. In fact, Scott and Jean had referenced him since he had been such a big help to the X-men during the Apocalypse ordeal. But they never told her he was so handsome.

“Uh…yes, this is the main office,” she stammered, her face blushing bright red, “I’m headmaster…I mean headmistress of the academy, Emma Frost.”

“Oh…” said Warren, surprised to see the headmistress to be such an attractive woman, “It’s uh…nice to meet you. I look forward to working here.”

The two shook hands, but it was an awkward gesture. Emma couldn’t stop blushing and Warren couldn’t help but be his shy self in the presence of a beautiful woman. All the while Scott and Jean sat and watched in amusement. They knew that look. It was not unlike the look they had when they first met. It was a good sign. They had a feeling Emma was going to be just fine.

“I’ll give you a tour later,” she said when they parted, “I mean…of the campus of course.”

“Looking forward to it,” smiled Warren, “I’ll see you around, Miss Frost.”

“Please…call me Emma.”

Warren smiled and left the office while Emma took in the moment. She almost forgot Scott and Jean were still there. But they didn’t mind. They just smiled and gave their friend a pat on the shoulder.

“Do you believe me now?” grinned Jean.

“Darling, I never had any doubts,” grinned Emma.

Life had taken many turns for Emma Frost. She had been good, bad, and everything else in between. But for the first time in her life she had hope. She had a new life, a new dream, and if she played her cards right a new love interest. And she owed it all to Scott and Jean, two people who showed her more than anything else that true love was possible and there was happiness out there for anyone brave enough to fight for it.
