Chapter 24
Chapter 24
The motorcycle between Mystique’s thighs gave off a warm vibration, the roaring sound sending a thrill through her body...Logan’s body.
She’d always found transforming into a man an interesting experience and this time was no different...except she had to remember the seriousness of her mission. This was no game. Kurt had to be dealt with carefully. Perhaps not gently, but her purpose was singular. She had no wish to injure her son. Yet, she’d do what needed doing...if it came to that. If the hurting turned Kurt’s love for Logan into hatred then his pain would be worth the cost.
Yet Mystique knew her time would be short. Once she’d started her little play, she’d have only a little time before Charles...or that blasted Summers boy would become suspicious. She’d have to play out the scenario quickly and exit the stage before she aroused too much suspicion.
Whatever happened, whether she succeeded or not, she still had Logan.
A smile pulled at her mouth...Logan’s mouth and she let a rumbling growl roll out just for practice. But Logan was an easy one to mimic, his feelings and his frustrations worn like a coat for all to see.
She was actually looking forward to playing the part of Logan. It was about time Kurt saw the man for what he was, a vicious animal.
The entrance gates opened at her command and Mystique rode in with the sun starting to dip low on the horizon. She left the bike at the front entrance and took a deep breath, letting it out slowly.
Preparing herself, Mystique strode up the front steps and on into the foyer. No one was around.
She strode up the long stairway and headed for Logan’s room, doing nothing to keep her presence quiet. The door was open and Kurt was inside putting clothing in a draw.
So now Kurt and Logan were sharing a room?
A growl rose up in her throat and Kurt turned at the sound, a smile flashing on his young face.
“Logan. Where have you been?” Kurt asked conversationally.
Mystique stepped into the room and slammed the door behind her. “Around. Had business...as if that’s any of yours.”
Kurt’s smile faded. “Oh. I didn’t mean to sound prying.”
“Yeah. Whatever.” Mystique moved into the room as if she owned it.
Kurt hesitated then came forward. “You just didn’t say anything about going anywhere. That’s all.”
Mystique said nothing, letting the silence build tension. She stared with hard cold eyes at Kurt and within a few moments, Kurt looked uncomfortable, his demeanor uneasy.
“Kitty and everyone made their flights fine,” Kurt offered, filling the void with a strained voice. “I...ah...watched them take off just to be sure.”
Mystique continued to stare, feeling Kurt’s uneasiness multiple.
“Logan,” Kurt said, stepping close and putting a hand on Mystique’s arm. “What is the matter? You seem...I don’t know...distant all of a sudden.” Kurt’s hand moved up Mystique’s arm, making to embrace her.
Mystique gripped Kurt’s arms and gave him a shove backwards. Kurt stumbled, but caught his balance, staring in return at her.
“Ya know, kid, you’re like a leech sometimes. Give me some room to breath, will ya?”
Kurt’s shocked gaze went to the floor. “I’m...I’m sorry. I didn’t realize I had been so...ah, clinging.” Kurt looked up through dark lashes. “You didn’t seem to mind earlier...in the garage with everyone watching.” Kurt’s tone of voice had taken on an edge.
“Yeah, well I’m mindin’ it now. I’ll let ya know when I’m wantin’ somethin’ from you. Got that? And now that we’re livin’ in the same room, I’m gonna expect ya to keep things picked up around here.”
Kurt’s eyes narrowed, a frown forming and a crease between the eyebrows showing his growing irritation. “Well, I’ll expect the same from you.”
Mystique was on Kurt in a flash, grabbing the boy by the arms in a tight grip and drawing him close.
“You listen to me, elf. Ya wanna be with me, there’s some rules ya need to know about and I’m expectin’ ya to follow them real close like.”
“Logan. Stop it.” Kurt struggled, but Mystique just clenched her grip harder, digging her fingers into Kurt’s muscles. “You’re hurting me.”
“Ya think I’m hurtin’ ya now, sweetheart?” Mystique pulled Kurt closer, her face inches from his. “Get this now, elf. If I wanna hurt ya, I hurt ya. If I wanna fuck ya all night long, you’ll take it. And if I see another piece of ass I wanna fuck, I’m gonna fuck it and you’ll keep yer mouth shut about it.”
“This isn’t funny, Logan! Stop it. This is a bad joke and it’s not funny at all.”
“It’s no joke, baby,” Mystique said with a hard jerk. Kurt’s eyes went wide, fear finally lighting in his golden gaze. “I’m startin’ to get a little bored with this one on one thing. Yer a real nice piece, but a man’s gotta spread it around some. A man like me just can’t settle for one pretty ass. There’s a million pretty asses just waitin’ for me to fuck ‘em.”
Kurt’s breath had gone shaky. “Logan! What has happened to make you feel this way? Just this morning everything was fine.”
“Well that’s the way it is now so you’d better get used to it.”
Anger flashed in Kurt’s eyes. “I will not be treated this way...not by you or anyone.”
Mystique narrowed her eyes and let a sneer pull at her mouth. “Ya think so, do ya?” she said in a deadly tone.
“Yes, I think so. Now let go of me.”
With lightning speed, Mystique released Kurt, her fist whipping around in a backhand across Kurt’s mouth. The power of the unexpected blow sent Kurt sprawling backwards onto the floor, blood running from a busted lower lip.
The look of shocked betrayal tugged at Mystique’s heart, but she hardened herself to her son’s pain and stalked towards him.
“Yer gonna learn yer lessons now, kid so we don’t gotta do this again.” Mystique reached for Kurt, seeing him flinch from her hard grip then in a puff of acrid smoke, he disappeared.
“That should do it, my son. Let your sense of betrayal turn your misdirected affections into hatred for the man who just hurt you.”
Mystique glanced around once, setting her mind for any confrontation to come before she got out of this house and headed out the door.
Chapter 25
Kurt landed in a sprawl on the foyer floor, his breath coming hard and his mouth throbbing from the blow Logan had just given him.
His mind whirled, trying to go numb on him and his heart felt shattered as broken glass.
“Kurt!” Scott said, running towards him.
Kurt flinched from Scott’s touch. His body felt raw as an open wound and his lover had just poured salt all over and rubbed it in hard.
“Hey. It’s okay,” Scott said soothingly. He knelt beside Kurt and reach to lift Kurt’s chin. “What in the world happened to you?”
“His mind is in disarray,” the Professor said from close by and Kurt finally realized his mentor had rolled up beside him. “Kurt, you need to quiet your mind. Your emotions are clouding your thoughts.”
Kurt drew in a shaky breath. “Logan.” He choked on the word and put his hands to his face to hide his shame and agony of spirit. He shook his head, trying to deny the last several minutes, of Logan’s ugly words and harsh treatment. “He...he...hit me. He’s never hit me...not even...not....” Kurt shook his head again, wanting nothing more than to curl into fetal position and forget everything.
Everything he’d suffered suddenly overwhelmed Kurt, the torture and rapes, his parents’ rejection of him. And he’d done that for Logan. Had everything that’d happened been for nothing? Had he made a terrible mistake thinking Logan actually loved him?
No. Something was terribly wrong.
Kurt looked up to see Logan coming down the stairs, his face hard, his eyes cold, their love for each other no where in his gaze.
Scott helped Kurt to his feet and Kurt fought the urge to beg Logan to explain what just happened. To admit it had been a joke gone horribly bad.
“Logan. What is going on?” the Professor asked in a tone brooking no argument.
“Whatdaya mean, Doc?”
“What does he mean?” Kurt flung back. “You hit me.”
“Aw elf,” Logan said, his expression uncaring and on the verge of bored. “We had a little lover’s spat and you go runnin’ to Chuck like some little girl. It wasn’t nothin’ but a tap. What’s the big deal?”
“The big deal, Logan,” Charles stated. “Is that you struck Kurt.”
“Yeah,” Scott added. “A busted lip isn’t a tap.”
“I won’t allow physical abuse in this house, Logan.” The Professor’s expression had gone hard. “Nor emotional abuse. Your behavior is unacceptable.”
“Get somethin’ straight now, Doc,” Logan said, moving closer, his demeanor on the verge of threatening. “My personal life is none of your business and the kid is my personal business. He either does what I tell him and likes it or he’s gonna find himself hurtin’. Them’s the rules.”
“Back off,” Scott said, his hand going to his glasses. “Not even you get to talk to the Professor like that.”
Logan turned his sneer on Scott. “Ya wanna go at me, buddy boy? Ya wanna play? Well just remember, I play rough and I play for keeps.” Logan’s claws slid out and he brandished them at Scott.
“Stop it!” Kurt yelled. “Stop it now!” Everyone turned to look at him. “I will not have this. I will deal with my own problems and I will deal with Logan.”
Logan gave a snort and let his claws slide back into place. “You do what ya wanna do, baby. I’m outta here. I’ve had enough of this domestic drama. It’s startin’ to make me sick ta my stomach.”
Heading for the door, Logan strode away with an arrogance that made Kurt’s anger rise to a new level.
“Logan! We are not done here.”
Logan turned, offering Kurt a smirk and pointed a finger at him. “Ya better be where I can find ya when I get back, elf cause if I don’t find what I need out there, I’m gonna take what I need from you.” Then he turned, yanking the door open and slamming it behind him.
Kurt stood rooted to the marble floor. Outside he heard the roar of the motorcycle race away down the drive then disappear into the distance. His heart labored, beating hard and fast, feeling like it might crawl up his throat and out his mouth.
“What the heck just happened?” Scott asked.
Kurt said nothing. His mind refused to wrap around the question, refused to give his tongue words to describe the turmoil inside of him or the pain Logan’s words inflicted on him.
“I don’t know, Scott,” the Professor stated. “I couldn’t get inside Logan’s mind. He was blocking me. This is most unusual.”
“Unusual?” Scott repeated. “Logan’s behavior went way beyond crass to just plain insolent. And the things he said to Kurt....”
“Kurt?” The Professor’s voice was gentle and Kurt felt the Professor touch his mind with a soothing aura.
But Kurt wanted none of it. Not to talk. Not to think. Not to remember the ugly words or Logan’s fist slamming into his mouth. He put up his hands and his mental walls, shaking his head.
He had to try to make sense of this insanity and he didn’t need Scott yapping in his ear about Logan’s behavior or the Professor trying to calm his mind with a mental touch.
“Kurt, don’t,” the Professor said, but Kurt refused to listen and teleported away to figure out how to deal with the problem of this new Logan on his own.
