Remy nearly knocked Kitty over as he strode down the hall. "Merde!" He grabbed her by the upper arms to steady her balance. "You okay?"
"Yeah, fine," she snapped, her face dark with obvious anger. "Sorry," she added as an afterthought. She tried to smile but managed a grimace. "Just having a bad morning." She sighed as Remy's eyes swept over her, his hands still on her arms. "Yes, that's jelly."
He raised a brow as he glanced at the pinkish red stain on her white shirt. "Mmmm." Remy barely contained a smirk at the picture she presented. Her ponytail was lopsided, her face bare of her usual light application of makeup, her shirt looked as if it had belonged to Blob at one point, judging from the size and food stains, and her jeans were streaked with what he hoped was mud. "What's the problem, chere?"
Kitty tugged her ponytail mutinously as her expression slid into a pout. "While Storm's gone, I have to help with keeping up the greenhouse and some of the outdoor plants. I fell." She sniffed. "It's wet out there!" She had hoped to get away after the disrupted breakfast and maybe steal some alone time with Kurt, but he had been in the hangar with Scott, going over the maintenance sheets for the jet and equipment. She had then tried to find Paige and Theresa, who had been planning on going to the mall, but Paige was in a high sulk thanks to Jono and Theresa was hiding in her room thanks to the previous day's episode. So Kitty have found herself pressed into service, forced by circumstance to do her assigned chores in a timely manner. "What're you doing?" she asked belatedly. "I thought you were taking Jubes and Jean into town to the dentist."
Remy shrugged. "Can't find either of 'em," he replied, sounding not a bit put out. "So I'm goin' down to de garage an' seein' what Forge done to Scott's muffler system." He grinned, perhaps because of the seemingly-inherent-to-the-male-species love of loud cars or perhaps, Kitty thought, because he did not have to sit at the dentist's stuffy office while the girls got there teeth cleaned and the receptionist flirted with him badly.
"Have fun," she muttered, starting to move around him. "Hey, just a sec..." She stepped back and, glancing around to make sure they were not going to be overheard, asked, "What do you think of the new ones? Poena and Annie and Aggie and Ernie?" She made a moue of distaste and added, "I get a weird vibe off of them. Especially Annie."
Remy nodded sagely. "I hear 'bout what she done to you and den you an' Kurt...you get any weird 'fects from it?" His eyes swept over her again as if checking for some new flaw or detail.
Kitty tilted her head to one side, her expression becoming thoughtful. "That's the weirdest part...it was like...like..." she blushed slightly and said in a rush, "like the BEST sex EVER then...boom. Out like a light." She could not quite meet Remy's amused gaze and instead stared at the button just beneath the juncture of his collarbones.
Remy's smile was evident in his voice. "Well...de out like a light sound like it should follow best sex ever, oui..." He almost laughed as Kitty colored a bright pink. "How 'bout Kurt?" he asked in a more serious tone. "He okay, aussi?"
"Seems to be," she replied, her color slowly returning to normal as the topic moved to safer ground. She was a little surprised at being so keenly aware of Remy. _Sure _, she reasoned with herself, _he's handsome and funny and smells *really * good, but you knew that before and didn't get all...gooshy... _ She was aware suddenly that he had asked her a question and was waiting for an answer. "Oh...um...huh?"
"I said," he paused as he realized she was looking at him oddly. Taking half a step back, he continued, "I said, I'm gonna check out de car an' go on to town to go to de music store. You wanna come with? Mebbe see if Paige still sulkin' an' bring her 'long?" He frowned. Kitty was looking a little glazed over, the pink color creeping back up her cheeks. "Chere, you feelin' okay?"
"Oh, just fine!" She could not stop herself from giggling. She blushed even more furiously and nodded. "Good idea. I'll go find Paige and meet you in the garage!" She phased through him and ran up the hall towards the stairs to the sleeping quarters.
Remy shook his head and snorted softly. "Dat gal jus' get weirder by de day!"
Kitty felt marginally better by the time she reached the top of the stairs to the girls' dormitory wing. The smell of sawdust had almost faded from the recent construction and the paint odor was entirely beyond her notice. She was glad because with the deep breaths she was taking to calm down, she might have made herself sick off it. Paige's room was at the end of the hall, right next to the girls' bathroom. Kitty gave thanks to whoever decided to put it there, making it convenient for her current need, and all but ran to the bathroom. She ignored the staring Aggie and turned on the cold-water tap at the first sink, splashing her face and neck with ice-cold water. "What're you staring at?" she finally gasped once she felt the flush receding from her face.
Aggie pushed away from the sink she had been leaning on and headed for the door, her dour expression twisted into a smile. She pressed one finger on Kitty's forehead as she passed and murmured, "For later."
Kitty was still frowning when she knocked on Paige's door.
