Guilt

Sorry about this being another short chapter, but the next one will be longer.

The man known as Gambit dived around the corner, knowing that his handiwork was about to reach its fruition. He saw a shimmer of light, but he also heard a scream. Something inside him made him go back, something instinctual. Maybe it was the pretty face of that girl he ran into. Her piercing green eyes that he only saw for an instant dug deep into his soul.

He turned back around the corner, the explosion causing so much damage it was hard to see through the soot and debris. But where was the girl? Had she run off and escaped the onslaught of his attack? He looked over, several feet from where he left her and saw her lying on the ground unmoving.

He slowly walked towards her, her eyes half opened. They took on a grayish hue amongst all the chaos and debris. He stood over her staring down on her, a look of desperation shown about her face as her eyes slowly closed. Her body went limp, and he felt the guilt overtake him, knowing that he had caused this. He knelt down checking for a pulse, hoping he had not ended her existence. He felt relieved when he found she was very much alive, but he examined her more closely seeing the gash on her head. It was bleeding, and he knew it must be tended to and soon.

He heard voices from nearby, a girl called out. "Rogue!" It was a strange kind of static-filled shout. He looked around and realized that the sound was coming from somewhere on the unconscious girl's person. "Please, come in." He heard the voice again.

He found a communicator, picking it up and quickly discarding it. He saw the girl move slightly, maybe an involuntarily reaction, but a reaction none the less. He quickly scooped her up in his arms. She seemed so light and delicate. He ran off out of sight, leaving no trace except for the discarded communicator lying in the debris.

Okay, I know this chapter is short, but these first are more like mini prologues. The next chapter will be much longer.
