Blue: the universal monster color
The demon had teleported her to a white room with nauseatingly bright florescent lights above. He slid her off his shoulder and onto the only bed in the room. "Dort," the demon said seeming proud of himself. She glared up at him, "I don't speak Chinese," she snapped at him.
"Ahh, gut! Neither do I!" his sentiment was false, but he seemed to be having fun with her insults. The only door to the room opened with a mechanical 'whoosh', and in walk another blue creature, more beast than demon, but far from normal none the less. He looked up from a book, "Am I interrupting something?" He questioned folding the corner of a page. The demon snickered, "Wir talking about how similar we are," and walked behind her towards the head of the bed."Similar?" The beast had inquired with a puzzled look. "Ja, I think I'm going to get her number." "Right," the beast continued. He stretched out a hand, “My name is Hank, but here I am called Beast-" He waited with his hand out and a pause in his sentence. Reluctantly, she put her hand in his and shook it, "I'm SydneyKate, and here I am called... frowloin?" she gave a puzzled look to the demon whom in return gave her a wink and a thumbs-up. "I see, SydneyKate-" he continued. "Kate, actually, I think," she looked down at her hands pondering the fuck she was doing there, talking to one shy of the Blue Man Group (R). Beast smiled at her, "Kate, I was hoping you'd allow me to take a blood sample so we could see what was going on with you." "Nothing is going on," she challenged. Beast sighed and adjusted his glasses, "Oh, well if it's all the same," he played along, "I'd like to be sure." "It's not all the same, it's mine, and it is different from yours," she spoke through her clenched teeth. She stood up off the bed and the demon had flashed over and pulled her back on it from the other side.
"He ist trying to help you. He does not judge you, none of us do," he pleaded for her cooperation. Now she sighed and rolled up her sleeve, "Fine."
Beast withdrew two vials of her blood, all the meanwhile noticing her flinches and the dampness of her skin. Swishing her blood in the tube to mix it with the anti-coagulant, "I can't help but notice you seem... not well." He glanced up briefly to see if the accusation had changed her face. "I'm fine," she defensively shot back, looking at her feet dangling a few inches above the floor. Beast went over to a white mounted cabinet while the demon had resolved to sit on the bed with Kate, his back to hers. Approaching the annoyed Kate, he pressed down on a button and a soft beep caught her attention. She looked up, "what's that for?" "It's a thermometer, it used to-" "I know what it's for, why do you have it?" She hopped up off the bed and started backing away. "I think you have a fever- it's only going to take a few seconds." he followed her into the corner of the room. "Punching you will also take a few seconds." She threatened. "Kurt, I think I might need you for a moment," he said dryly. "Ach, liebling, I love it when you're feisty," he casually strolled over. "Wait, what?" She put her arm up to block herself from him, but he grabbed the arm and bent it behind her back. She screamed out and dropped on her knees. The demon let go and gave a questioning glance to Beast. Kurt knelt down, Beast alongside him, and rolling her eyes she opened her mouth. Beast slid the plastic covered end under her tongue and held the end waiting for it to beep. When it did, he pulled it out, looked at it, and got up. Walking over to a clipboard on the wall, he pulled it down and wrote something with the pen that hung on a silver chain. "There's something you're keeping to yourself, Kate, which I think you might want to share." "No, nothing," She answered, pondering to herself how he knew. "103.1 isn't nothing, even if it's the flu, which," he looked up at her, "you don't have." Kurt put a hand under her arm and pulled her up. She sucked in the air through her teeth as the pain in her shoulder radiated outward. She pulled her arm away, but Kurt caught her hand. His demeanor had changed from mischievous to serious. He looked at her with narrowed eyes, "Wait, no!" she protested, but it fell on deaf ears. Kurt pressed a finger into her shoulder. Another cry of pain from Kate was followed by her knees buckling. He caught her weight and guided her over to the bed. He slid the unbuttoned tunic down her shoulder. "Nothing, huh?" Beast questioned, coming in for a closer look. The hole was inflamed and the blackened veins were surrounded by a familiar blue tinting of the skin. "Was ist dieses?" Kurt questioned, touching the blue skin that had crept just an inch above her breast. She grabbed her sleeve, shooing his hand away in the process, and tugged it over her shoulder. Beast grabbed her wrist and she looked up at him to ask what he was doing. But, before she could, he stuck a needle into the muscle of her arm and quickly she felt the florescent light slip away from behind her plastic sunglasses.
