Just This Once

Rose was closing up the diner for the night, the only other person there her boss, a caricature of a diner monkey if she'd ever met one.  In fact, her sister had drawn a hilarious picture of that just the other day...  Every day she wondered why she kept coming in here, but there were bills to be paid and not many people would hire a Canadian import without a valid work visa.  All she wanted to do was save up enough money to get home.  She sighed, hanging up her her apron as she went by the pegs.

"Okay Mister Coolidge, I'm heading home now."

She straightened her pale, polyester uniform, wishing that the skirt was just a little longer, and not for the first time.  She pulled on a long pea green trench coat, hoping that the military-style garment would chase off some of the less pleasant subway inhabitants.  She was almost to the door when the hulking form of her boss blocked her path, a familiar leer painting his features in the florescent glow of the overhead lights.

"Mister Coolidge, please, don't do this tonight. I..."

He cut her off by moving further into her personal space, his bulk an intimidating mass between her in freedom. One of his hands braced on the wall behind her and she could smell his reek of cheap cigarettes, fryer grease and sweat.  She tried not to gag as his foul breath washed over her.

"Miss Cavanaugh you haven't paid me for that coffee pot you broke yesterday."

She shuddered, whether from the stench or the threat lacing his words she wasn't sure.  She mustered up as much of her spitfire courage as she could, but before she said anything the slovenly man was pulled from her and tossed across the room.  She could hardly believe it, but there stood her stranger... No... Logan, panting with exertion and looking all deadly masculine.

"What d'ya think yer doin' with the little lady, bub?"

She was a fool to have found Coolidge's words threatening, her dark haired saviour oozed menace in a way that was being description.  A stray thought commented that it was sexy, but she brushed it aside. She needed this job, and her rescue, though appreciated, might just ruin that. She took the few steps up to him, laying a gentle hand on his sleeve.

"Leave it be, Mister Logan. He's not worth it."

He grunted, but turned away, one rough hand grabbing hers and pulling her out the door with him.  She made to protest but he turned a glare on her that demanded her compliance. But she was no wallflower, no passive watcher of her own life so she dug in her heels and glared right back.

"I have to go back and save my job, since its what pays for things like my food and apartment."

He grunted in frustration, using his superior weight and strength to tumble him forward against him.  He ran his hands over her body, but she knew full well that this absolute stranger was trying to seduce her into compliance. Though her traitorous senses were all but declaring mutiny, she pulled herself away from him, much to his surprise. She panted, trying to maintain some level of dignity as she righted her uniform.

"Don't worry about it girl, you can claim I forced ya away, he's never seen us together before, it'll blow over. For now, I need you to come with me."

He reached for her again but she stepped away.

"I... I should really be getting home... My sisters will worry."

Logan raised an eyebrow in mockery. "Well, can't keep you out past your curfew now can I?"  She growled and stomped her foot in frustration.  That... That... MAN! He hopped up onto his Harley and offered her a hand. "Your choice, girl, I won't offer again." There was something dark in his eyes, taunting her to give in.  Knowing she'd have regrets any way she went with this, she accepted his hand and mounted the bike behind him.

"Where are we going?"

"Just for a ride."
