Fear and dreams

The robot hit the wall with a thud. Wolverine smirked with satisfaction until a laser fired into his back. He turned and with a roar lunged, his claws slicing through the foolish robots neck like butter. He knew he was fighting recklessly but he didn’t care he was pissed. He was knocked out of his thoughts when an optic blast hit him square in the chest. He flew back into the wall from the force of the shot, slamming his back hard. He looked up to see a robot version of Cyclops. The smirk became a full smile he was going to enjoy fighting this one. He charged jumping just in time to avoid another shot and managing to tackle the robot to the ground. Readying himself to deal the final blow the robot Cyclops releases a shot at point blank range sending Wolverine flying through the air. Landing hard he shook of the hit and stood his animalistic rage taking over.

Nightcrawler was barely able to sit still on the trip back to the manor. He had been just as surprised as Logan when Scott decided said feral mutant wasn’t going, using some excuse about Logan being distracted and making him a liability. The thing was he agreed. There had been something off about Logan during the briefing. He sighed worried for his friend. Logan had been being really distant as of late, no danger room sparring no drinking trips not even just social hanging out then this lack of attention at the briefing as well. Kurt was torn, on one hand he was worried about his friend and yet on the other hurt that whatever it was rather then talk to him about it Logan chose to keep himself isolated. He was startled out of his thoughts when Scott announced they would be arriving back at the manor in a few minutes.

Logan just growled away the stares and questions from the students on his appearance. The fight in the danger room with the Cyclops robot had left him looking horrible. His uniform was in shambles and despite the fact that his healing factor was working he could still smell his own burnt skin. Now all he wanted was to get back to his room and clean up and have some drinks. He visibly relaxed once he arrived at his room. He opened the door and quickly slipped in glad that no one had noticed the damage to the danger room yet. He laughed just a little when he imagined the look of anger on Slim’s face when he discovered it. He sat on the foot of his bed and snapped open the last beer he had trying to sort out his thoughts, as pissed as it had made him he knew Slim was right, he was distracted and it made him a liability. The only solution he could come up with was to face the problem head, even if that ruined his and the Elf’s friendship. A knock on the door accompanied by a familiar scent made him take a deep breath. He opened the door to see the familiar blue mutant of his dreams.

“Come on in Elf we need to talk.” Kurt just gave him a confused look before entering the room. Suddenly very glad he had brought beer.

The two men sat side by side on the bed in silence the room thick with tension despite the alcohol both men were consuming. They continued to drink in silence until Kurt finally spoke up.

“So my fruend what did you need to talk about?” Logan didn’t say anything in response he just keep sipping his drink before disposing of the empty can and opening another one. Kurt waited a few more minutes for Logan to respond before standing up to leave. He started to move towards the door and was surprised when Logan grabbed his arm.

“Stay…please.” Kurt just nodded before sitting back down. They both continued to drink in silence having so much to say but not being able to find the words. The awkward silence continued a while longer before Kurt stood up unable to hold in his anger.

“Logan this has to stop! You think I haven’t noticed how you’ve been avoiding me? No games of tag no sparring! Even now despite you saying we need to talk all you do is sit there and silently drink! I’m beginning to think you only let me in because I brought alcohol! Logan…why? What did I do?” He finished barely above a whisper cursing himself for not being able to keep better control of his emotions, hoping Logan hadn’t discovered the feelings behind the outburst. Logan just calmly finished his beer before finally speaking.

“Elf I…” He stumbles over his words not sure how to approach the topic. Standing up he walks to the other side of the room. Kurt just sat on the bed for a few seconds before sighing and walking over to his friend placing an arm around his shoulder doing his best to ignore the feeling it was sending down to his groin.

“Logan.” He softly said, “What’s wrong?” As soon as the arm was around his shoulder Logan felt an all too familiar tingling sensation pass through his body ending at his groin. That was it, the straw that broke the camels back all of the days events came rushing back to him the wet dream, the argument with Scott the danger room. All of it and the cause was standing with an arm draped around his shoulder! He shook Kurt’s arm off before turning to face him.

“You want to know what wrongs elf, it’s you! Every time I turn around you're there that damn concerned look in your eye! I can take care of myself don’t ever forget that! So you want to help fine. Give me some damn space!” Logan hadn’t realized just how much venom had been put behind the words until it was already too late and realized the horrible mistake he had just made. The look on Kurt’s face causing him more pain then any wound he had ever suffered.

“Elf I’m so sorry I didn’t mean” He found himself cut off by a blue finger at his lip.

“Nein Logan, you don’t need to apologize I do. I’m sorry if you felt our…I was suffocating you and I shall honor your request.” Before Logan could say anything else in response he heard an all too familiar BAMF sound and was alone in his room except for the strong scent of Brimstone.

Logan stood in shock for a few moments before growling at himself. Nice job Logan. You have erotic thoughts about the Elf and you blame him for always being around! Logan growled again before sitting on his bed and opening the last can of beer that his friend had brought him. Downing it and quickly tossing the can in the corner he decided he had to make things right. Quickly leaving his room he hurried down the hall to Kurt’s room. He knocked on the door when a voice in his head made him stop.

"Logan I need to see you in my study." Logan just sighed knowing that Charles wouldn’t take no for an answer and with a remorseful look back at Kurt’s room headed off towards the Professors study.

It had felt like he had tried teleporting a bus full of people. That was the only way Kurt could describe the pain he had felt when Logan had finished his yelling. He wasn’t trying to overwhelm Logan he had just wanted to be near him…hold him…kiss him. He shook the mental images away knowing they were the cause of all the problems. If he hadn’t developed these feelings for his friend then everything would have been fine, but no, these damn feelings had forced him to find reasons to be around Logan even when none were available and ultimately that caused Logan to push him away. Still he wouldn’t give up, If Logan wanted space fine he would stay away from him no matter how much it hurt. His mind made up Kurt got into his bed and curled up with a book eventually succumbing to the bliss of sleep dreaming of Logan and himself curled up in each others arms.

Logan silently left the study. Truth be told he hadn’t really heard much of what Charles had said; his mind more focused on replaying the encounter with Kurt that had become such a huge disaster. A disaster caused by his own fear. That’s when the reality of the situation hit him like a slap to the face. He the mighty Wolverine, who had faced horrors unfathomable and unbelievable to others, who had fought off foes innumerous, had finally found something that scared him. The thought of losing Kurt’s friendship scared him and he was afraid confessing these feelings would do just that. The clock on a nearby wall chimed reminding Logan just how late it was getting. Deciding there was nothing he could do today Logan headed off to his room. Stripping down he climbed into bed where sleep came with dreams full of himself and a lithe blue Elf in compromising positions.
