Chapter 2
Jubilee laid her head against the head rest of her seat, looking out the passenger side of the jeep. Tears continued to roll down her cheeks, but her crying had slowed down. She couldn't believe she had acted like a child and cried, but he had scared the shit out of her. He had never been so harsh with her; never man-handled her that way. He had never been one for rough housing with her, but there was a first time for everything. She shrugged her shoulders and thought, ‘Damn’.
She adjusted her sitting position and looked out the windshield. Logan was driving fast and she couldn't keep up with the twists and turns of the road. She laid her head back again and closed her eyes. "How far are we from the mansion," she asked him.
He didn't respond for such a long time it caused her to open her eyes and look at him. She opened her mouth to speak, when he responded, "Twenty miles, north." He turned his left turn signal on and they pulled into the parking lot of a package store. Jubilee just sat there when the jeep stopped and he cut the engine off. He didn't move to get out either.
Their silence went on it seemed, to Jubilee, forever when she decided to start a conversation with him. "You scared me, Wolverine." He looked down at his hands and shook his head. "I mean it. You really scared the shit out of me," she said, almost screaming. She had unbuckled the seat belt and turned in the seat to face him. He looked at her. "You have never handled me that way. Granted, I shouldn't have said what I did, but it shouldn't have pissed you off like that, either. What gives?"
He took a deep breath and released it. Turning to look at her, his expression was soft; a complete change from only half an hour ago. She thought she saw something in his eyes, but it was gone so fast she wasn't sure. "You just don't realize how hard this is for me, Jubes," he began, but she interrupted him.
"I of all people know how hard this is."
He shook his head and said, "No, you don't. You and I are different from one another." He looked at his hands, flexing the fingers, then back at her. "I am more animal than man at times and when you do some of the things you do, it's almost impossible to fight my reaction. The beast wants you and, God help me, so does the man." He said that last with an anguished voice. She let all the shock and surprise show on her face. She had never expected him to admit how he felt.
He got out of the jeep and walked into the store. She didn't follow him, still shocked at his revelation. He wasn't in the store long and walked out carrying a large, brown paper bag. Getting in the jeep, he put the bag in the back floor board. She looked in the back trying to see what he had bought. "Canadian whiskey," he said to her perusal of his purchase. She sat facing forward and tried to ignore him. He pulled out onto the road and headed away from the mansion once again.
"Where are we going," she asked.
He glanced at her and looked back at the road. "Somewhere that we can talk," he glanced at her again and said, "Uninterrupted." They looked at each other and her mistrust showed on her face. "You don't trust me," he asked.
"Anyone would have a hard time trusting you after what happened earlier," she replied.
"You wound me," he feigned.
"Get over it," she said, smiling slightly.
They drove on for several more miles and then came upon a cheap looking motel. He pulled in and parked in front of the office.
"Surely, you're not stopping here," she said.
He smiled and looked at her. "Afraid I'm gonna attack you," he asked, smirking.
"But it's so," her words trailed off as she searched for an appropriate word.
"Cheap," he supplied for her. She just shook her head and crinkled her nose. He laughed at her expression and said, "I'll be right back." He got out of the jeep and went into the office. She could see through the glass door and watched as Logan signed a ledger and the desk clerk looked out at her and back at Logan. His mouth moved in what she assumed was a question. She watched as Logan handed the man a few extra bills. The clerk looked at her again and down at the money and taking it, he placed a key in Logan's hand. He turned from the desk and walked out the door. Getting in, he handed her the key and started the jeep. Backing up, he pulled around the office and to the building behind it.
She looked at the key and the number on the key ring. Logan pulled in a parking space directly in front of the door to the room and parked. They got out of the car and made their way to the door. She unlocked it and, opening the door, a dark and relatively clean room was revealed. She stepped inside and he followed, flipping on the light and closing the door behind him.
The room contained mismatched furniture; a small, round table with two chairs opposite each other, a double bed, a low six drawer dresser with a TV on one end. The curtains were open and, as she was looking out into the parking lot, Logan pulled the chain to close them. He smiled at her when she looked at him and turned to go into the bathroom, pulling the shirt of his uniform off. She yearned to run her hands up and down the muscular back that was revealed. Her eyes fell to his ass and her mouth watered instantly. He looked back at her over his shoulder and smiled knowingly. He stepped into the bathroom. Shortly after his boots, one by one, were thrown out into the room in front of the sink. His pants followed shortly. She got weak in the knees and had to sit down in one of the chairs.
"I'm going to take a shower," he said as he stuck his head out of the bathroom door and finished, "Hand me a towel?"
Jubilee looked around the room and saw a couple of towels sitting on the dresser opposite the TV. She slowly walked over and picking up a towel, she stepped up to the bathroom door and put it in his out stretched hand. His fingers locked around her hand as well as the towel and he just looked at her. She blushed as she looked into his eyes, not yet ready for that hungry look he had. It shocked and pleasured her at the same time. She had never had a man look at her that way, but coming from him it was a very potent thing. She could tell he was completely naked, but fought the urge to trail her eyes down his body.
"Am I scaring you so much you just can't speak, huh?" He waited a moment and when she didn't answer, said, "No, I get it. The world's gonna end 'cause I'm payin' the attention to ya that ya always wanted." He loosened his grip enough for her to slip her hand from his and she fled to the relative safety of the motel room. He wanted to laugh, but couldn't drudge up enough energy. He was glad she had run. If she had stayed he may have stripped her naked and made love to her before the water was ever turned on. He closed the door, but didn't lock it.
