Two

It had been a week since Ororo and Rogue had spoken. Currently, Rogue was holed up in her room, listening to Nine Inch Nails, a band Pyro had gotten her into before he left. Her gloves were now folded away within the depths of her oaken dresser drawers, and she lied, spread eagled on her bed, looking up at her ceiling… That crawling beneath her skin kept growing with each passing day… And the more it grew, the more maddening it became. So maddening, it made her roll out of bed, and look at herself in the mirror. Pulling away her shirt…Her pants, until she just stood in her undergarments, her emerald eyes observing her skin for any sign of difference… Just something… But the crawling just kept getting worse. She ran into the bathroom, slipping out of the rest of her clothing, and turning on the shower; the steam rising, and fogging the mirrors that reflected her beautiful nude body a hundred times over.
Rogue stepped in, sliding the glass door shut behind her, the water was scalding hot, but she just clenched her eyes shut, her ivory skin turning red from the heat of the water as it ripped at her flesh… It made her numb. It made everything numb… She slid the soggy thick hair tie out of her hair, letting it fall to the shower floor below, her hair falling, grazing her breast as it always did… Shielding that part of her body from the heat… But the room slowly began to blur… The heat taking its toll on her body, and she reached out her hand… Twisting it all the way to cold, the change made her whimper slightly, and sigh with relief as her skin cooled… Goosebumps slowly rose, and she began to shiver… and slowly, but surely the crawling returned…

Worthington Labs had changed since ‘The Cure’ had been issued. A lot of people hated Warren Sr. But he could care less, he was a respected investor in the sciences of mutant affairs, and it upped his status quo through the roof, and he couldn’t have been more pleased… But presently, he was irritated, the woman on the other end of the line spoke with a drawl that made it hard to understand her…

“Y’ve gottuh fix e’it.” She cried into the receiver. “Ah wanna rip mah skin off!”
This didn’t faze the man in the least, he got thousands of phone calls a day about how The Cure had been defective, there was only one person on his list who hadn’t called, and this was it.

“Look mam everyone who took the Cure has been having problems, you—what’s your file number?” He asked, trying to calm his own bristling nerves. “Zero-eleven-nahne.” She said her crying seemed to be becoming more anguished.

Warren typed it with haste into his computer. A very exstensive file came up, considering this girl had no family there was quite a lot to look through.

“Marie D’Ancanto?” He asked cradling the receiver between his shoulder and ear as he spoke, browsing the file.
“Tha’s me.” She replied…

One the other end Rogue couldn’t stop crying, and it seemed to her that this guy was taking his sweet time…

“Power: Absorption, interesting…” He commented. “Incapable of human/mutant contact…”

“Ah didn’ ask yuh fer’ a synopsis.” She snapped. “Ah need y’all’s help.”

Warren Sr. sighed. “Considering the potency--- He paused.

“Yes?” Rogue asked desperately.

“You should be manifesting a bit more back than just your regular absorption.”

On Rogue’s end the crawling seemed to deepen… As though it suddenly grew claws, and was ripping at her innards, the room slammed out of focus and she stumbled back… Her knees buckled beneath her, and she collapsed on the floor unconscious, the phone falling from her limp bare hand…
