{05/24/2007 – Update: My most humble apologies to those who waded through my story as it was originally posted. Due to my complete incompetence with HTML format, all of my characters’ internal monologues were rendered invisible in the online version. Portions of the story were made confusing and perhaps even unreadable by this mistake. From now on I will make it a point to read each of my stories online at least once in order to verify that it is being displayed as I intended it to be.}
Funny how writing about obsession becomes an obsession in and of itself. This story wound up being at least twice as long as I originally intended. Thank you very much for your reviews and suggestions. Please continue to make suggestions. I’m not opposed to rewriting to improve my story.
For those who care about nuts and bolts: I wrote this story in chapters of about 2000 words as calculated by Microsoft Word. In the end it comes to over 37,000 words, probably my longest single piece of work to date written in just about a month’s time. Yipes! You’d think I didn’t have two kids and a full time job.
In this story I’m assuming my readers are reasonably familiar with the XMen: Evolution cartoon and have not spent much time on describing characters and places seen in the show. I’ve also tried to restrict my POV to those events our two main characters are present for, except where I felt it was helpful to the plot. I hope it isn’t too odd.
I have not viewed the last season of the show myself. So I may have inadvertently contradicted the show. I’d love to see it, but it’s just not out on DVD.

I’ve deliberately left the story a bit open ended. It’s a dark fic, so I don’t think a “happily ever after” is appropriate, but I haven’t got the heart to “doom and gloom” Kurt either. I may have to write some fluffy smut for him to make up for it. I feel sort of guilty.
BTW, I’m not even sure I like Adrienne/Alpha-9/Eurydice. I don’t think I’ve done that before. Creating a protagonist I’m tempted to sink off a deep pier somewhere, I mean. How do you feel about her?
