“Ms Munroe, you look pale, is something wrong? Ms Munroe? Storm?”

No. It had not been what it had looked like. No, her mind had played tricks on her as it often did when she was tired. You know what you saw. No … It couldn’t have been that, it was too … She had to brace herself to keep from stumbling in the high heeled boots. It could’ve been, of course, because she hadn’t had breakfast yet not even her usual glass of water. Ororo was suddenly aware of someone talking to her, calling her name repeatedly. Trying to erase the image from her mind was like trying to rip apart a tightly nailed shut casket using bare hands – no matter how hard she tried, it was still there the inside of her head.

“Ms Munroe, say something!”

Okay, Ororo Munroe, get a fuckin’ grip on yourself woman. She looked up and found Kitty and Jubilee standing there, seemingly ready for class. Oh dear. Oh shit and double shit.

“Hey girls! You … you two on your way to my lesson?” Ororo smiled, somewhat relieved, but on the other hand …

“Rogue won’t be in class today, will she?” Kitty said.

Ororo felt the first trickle of heat appear in her face. “No. No she’s still … incapacitated … sort of … I’m afraid, but she’s feeling better though, I’m sure so no need to worry, Kitty.” Well, that had to be an understatement if nothing else, she thought dryly. “Listen girls, I really have to get something to eat before class, so if you two will excuse me, okay? See you later then, and don’t forget your books.”

“Sure, whatever, Ms Munroe”, Kitty and Jubilee said simultaneously and exchanged glances with each other.

Leaving the girls, Ororo felt her facial expression change in an instant, from cheerily to stern. She was more or less in chock, disbelief and confusion mixed with anger and beyond that, something worse. Guilt. You feel guilty, don’t you? Guilt for letting the girl see Logan, and for leaving them alone all night. Of course, she’d known all along that that hadn’t been the wisest thing to do, but then again she could also understand why Rogue had wanted to see him. They’d nearly killed each other, and the thing was that it wasn’t the first time something like it had happened. Rouge had nearly died in that car crash before she came to Westchester, while Logan was busy fighting Sabretooth. Scott and herself had managed to rescue the girl though, as well as Logan, and carried them off to Xavier’s school for gifted youngsters. Boy had she been wrong about Logan just behaving like a protective older brother. Denying there was some kind of bond between Rogue and Logan was plain stupid, they were close for several reasons. Ororo knew she’d been a little too blind, ignoring signs on the way. They’d been there all along, ever since Logan introduced the girl to Xavier and the rest of the mutant community. He’d saved her life on more than one occasion, among other things that were sort of protective in a way that she should’ve reacted to.

She’d been wrong about Rogue being the innocent girl, she was far from that, she was a woman with tons of experience. Young, there was no question about that, but not a child. Oh no, not that. Then there was Jean, Ororo’s very close friend, and Logan’s lover, the woman he was dating. Lately, she’d had to wonder about Logan’s intentions though. Divided loyalty was too often a bad thing. He’d betrayed Jean, and knowing her she wouldn’t be very happy to know who held Wolverine’s heart as of late. As well as Jean thought she could hide what she felt about Rogue, Ororo knew there was nothing affectionate about those feelings. But then again, Jean had been a bad girl too, Ororo thought, jumping back and forth between Scott and Logan a few times too many for her to feel 100% guilty about letting Rouge see Logan. Not that she wanted to cause problems or drive a wedge between Jean and him, it was just that … She cared for Rogue like a baby sister and knowing Rogue, she’d be very disappointed if she was to be kept away from Logan.

Logan, well … he was a different matter. The man was often like the riddle he actually was, distant and grumpy, not very talkative to begin with, and not even around for Ororo to be angry at, since he had a habit of taking off now and then without warning. He rarely smiled, but she’d seen him flash Rogue one of those on several occasions. But just like the girl, he’d had a tough life so at some level she felt compassion and understood at least some of what he was about. Of course there had to be some kind of attraction between the two of them. Just look at how they met in the first place, Ororo thought while trying to soothe her features. She had a bad feeling about it all, a very bad feeling ...

Taking a seat in the dining room with some coffee and a sandwich, Ororo sighed loudly, she felt exhausted all of a sudden. She really disliked being caught in the middle because she couldn’t believe what she’d witnessed and hadn’t even begun to realize the extremely vast changes in Rogue’s power. The girl could control it, it was fascinating of course and what she’d always wanted for Rogue, but the image was burning inside Ororo’s head like a beacon ...

She noticed the sounds at first, mumbling voices, moaning. The sound of flesh thumping against flesh. She couldn’t stop, and sneak out the door again, she had to see for herself what was going on. Knowing Logan, he’d probably already sensed her being present, or at least that someone was, but it didn’t stop her from as quietly as possible tiptoeing towards the bedroom. The scene made her stop dead in her tracks, as she felt heat rush up her neck. Logan was naked and lying between Rogue’s thighs, and she was just as naked as he was. Pieces of underwear on the floor caught Ororo’s eye for a second before she found herself staring at the couple sprawled on the bed again. Rogue naked underneath Logan, she was touching him, kissing him, like it seemed he couldn’t stop doing to her either. Their hands and mouths were everywhere, licking, biting, kissing. The intensity of their lovemaking made Rogue wriggle and moan of pleasure, it brought moans, close to feral sounds, from him, too, as he drove himself in and out of her.

Walking in on Logan and Rogue, she knew she’d lingered just a little bit too long. Long enough for the sparks to start spread to her on some level. Ororo buried her face in the coffee mug, her cheeks burning of shame and something beyond that. A very bad feeling about it all indeed …

“Is this seat taken?”

Ororo raised her eyes as if surprised. “Naja … I mean, no it’s not, please be my guest.”

Naja was one of the newly arrived mutants, a grown man with a somewhat clouded past, for all she knew. He took a seat facing her and Ororo had to force herself not to stare. He was striking, yeah that was the word that best described him, strikingly handsome with black soft curls framing a very masculine face. One of his best features were the eyes, like jade liquid fire capable of literary burning holes through anything. There was something unnerving about Naja though, he had a way of … moving … that was not exactly scary, but too perfect. It wasn’t so much him sitting down, a absolutely normal thing to do, it was the way he did it … sort of in one gliding motion.

“My, you’re hungry”, she finally managed to say and tried to go for the casual cheerily Ororo she usually was in the mornings. It was bad enough that she still couldn’t get the steamy image of Logan and Rogue making love out of her head, and now Naja sat there not exactly making the sexual conflict inside her any less. Damn. He seemed awfully relaxed, still a bit sleepy around the eyes, but relaxed oh yes, maybe even a little smug.

“Yeah, I’m always hungry in the mornings, and besides”, he said while saluting her with a glass of orange juice, “it’s not a good idea to go to work with an empty stomach, right?”

“I guess that’s true.”

This was just a little too awkward for Ororo to feel entirely comfortable being this close to him. What was the matter with her? She wasn’t in love with him, maybe fancied the guy, and she also believed he didn’t always do it on purpose. He was like Lilith-Ana when it came to the sexual part, but had none of that aggressive approach she had. He was less animal than her.

“So … what are the plans for the day, Ms Munroe?”

“Call me Storm, you don’t have to be formal with me.”

He smiled. “Okay, Storm, what’s on the menu?”

“Well, I have to teach some classes today, and them I have a couple of appointments after that. What about you?”

“Oh, not much …”

“Why don’t you join me, be sort of like an assistant today?”

He arched an eyebrow at her. “Me?”

“Yes, you. I’m supposed to give lessons on having a power similar to yours, and who better to display the whole thing than you? If you’re free toady as you said ...”

“You should bring Ana instead, she loves to put on a show”, he said dryly.

“So, you don’t wanna go?”

“If it means that much to you, then I will. I’ll be the perfect assistant.”

Oh I just bet you’ll be, making all the boys and girls drool all over you. Yeah, that’ll be something. Her cell phone rang, causing her to stir. She really needed to focus. Focus, focus, focus, damn it!

“This is Ororo.”

“Storm, can you come down to my office, I need to speak with you. It’s important”, she heard Charles Xavier’s friendly voice say over the phone.

“Yes, I’ll be there as soon as I can, professor.”

“Okay. I’ll notify the others, then”, he said and hung up.

Ororo sighed, and downed the last of the coffee.

“Everything okay?” Naja said, studying her intently.

“Yes … well, no, I don’t know yet. Listen, would you mind go tell my students that I’ll be running a little late? I can send someone else if you don’t feel like it.”

“No, no, it’s okay, I’ll go, just tell me when and where.”

“It’s down the main hallway, last door to the left. Just ask if they’re supposed to have me as their teacher today, if you’re not certain. They’ll know.”

“Will do, Storm”, he said and flashed her a smile that immediately caused a swarm of giddy butterflies circulate inside her belly.

She really needed to get away from him and those eyes. “Okay, see you later then.”
