More nice reviews!! Thank you. And Dina...glad you like the "fluffy" beginning. Well, the fluff is just about over.

Chapter 15

“Blasphemy! What you are speaking of is a sin, Kurt!” Mr Wagner’s voice sounded clearly through the door to one of the parlors, Logan understanding most of the words spoken in a vehement German.

“Please, Papa!” Kurt replied. “Please understand. I love him. It’s not wrong. I’d know it if it was. I’d know it in my heart if what I felt for Logan was sinful.”

“If the church says it’s a sin, it’s a sin!” Mr Wagner countered.

“I don’t believe that! You have to understand----”

“We don’t have to understand anything, except you are coming home with us now. You will not stay here to be further influenced by this man, Logan.”

Logan let out a harsh breath, hands balled into impotent fists. Dammit, this wasn’t going well at all. Kurt wasn’t convincing his parents of anything and they were already certain Logan was a perverted child molester who had caught Kurt in his immoral trap.

The kid was doing his best, saying all the right things, but rational words never countered centuries of religious indoctrination and the Catholic Church was an expert in the field.

“I will not go, Papa,” Kurt replied, staying calmer than Logan had expected, though the elf’s voice was definitely strained. “You can’t make me. I’m an adult now and you can’t make me go anywhere I don’t want to go. I’m going to college here and I’m going to continue to see Logan.”

“Kurt!” Mrs Wagner exclaimed in a tearful voice. “How can you turn from your upbringing? How can you...be...with a man when you know how very wrong it is.”

“Mama, please don’t cry. I don’t mean to hurt you, either of you. And it’s not wrong! Logan and I love each other. Why can’t you accept that?”

“Because we can’t and still face our God with a clear conscience,” Mrs Wagner said.

“This isn’t about your conscience,” Kurt countered with obvious frustration. “This is about my conscience and my conscience is clear.”

Silence rang out harsh, like the silence after a killer storm. Logan waited for someone to break the stalemate.

“Fine then,” Mr Wagner stated with finality. “Mama, go pack our things. We are going home now. Kurt, I want you to go with us. I won’t ask again and you will have to live with the consequences of your choice.”

“Papa, please don’t do this. Don’t make me choose between you and Mama and Logan. That’s not fair.”

“Choose now, son.”

Silence again and Logan’s heart went out to Kurt. He only hoped he’d find the words he’d need tonight to comfort the elf.

“I’m staying, Papa.” Kurt’s tone held it’s own finality.

The sound of chairs scraping and steps heading towards the door didn’t persuade Logan to move from his place in the hall. He waited and when the door opened and the Wagners turned towards the main entry, Logan was there with his arms crossed against his chest.

“You!” Mr Wagner hissed. “You turn our son against us. You take him to your bed as if he was some kind of...of----”

“Don’t even say the word, Mister,” Logan shot back. “Kurt don’t deserve that from you. In fact, he deserves a lot better from what he thought were opened-minded people. You had enough faith to pull a little blue, pointy ear, pointy tailed, yellow eyed baby from the river, but ya don’t got enough faith in him to let him make his own decision without issuin’ ultimatums. I thought you were good people, but now I’m thinkin’ I’m wrong.”

“Logan! Don’t,” Kurt said from the doorway, his expression full of pain and anguish. “Let them go.”

Logan turned his gaze back to Mr Wagner, staring hard at the man.

“We need time to think,” Mr Wagner said, his own anguish apparent. “We need....time.”

Logan stepped aside and let the couple pass. He turned to watch them hurry down the hallway then felt Kurt beside him. Turning, Logan pulled Kurt into his arms, holding him close.

“Oh Logan, it was terrible,” Kurt said, that same anguish in his voice. “They looked at me like I was some horrible insect. As if I had destroyed their world. I just want to live me life as I see fit. Why is that so hard for everyone to understand?”

“Everybody wants to be in control, sweetheart. That’s what’s wrong with the world.” He smoothed Kurt’s hair and gently rubbed Kurt’s back. “Relax, baby. It’s over. The ball’s in their court now. You just have to wait and see if they come around. Give ‘em time like your daddy said.”

“What if they don’t come around?” Kurt asked, his emotional pain reminiscent of only a few months ago when Kurt hadn’t yet gotta a grip on his ordeal of rape and torture.

“Then that’s the consequence they gotta live with.”

Kurt pushed back and looked up at Logan. “And I have to live with.” With a caress of Logan’s cheek, Kurt disappeared, probably going to his room to grieve for what he feared was lost.

Logan leaned against the wall, his thoughts in chaos. They had been dreading this moment for months and now, it seemed the dreading had been everything they had feared. The scenario had played out just as Kurt had known it would.

The kid didn’t deserve this, not after everything he’d been through in the last year.

Logan pushed away from the wall and slowly walked the corridor, hands jammed into his pockets. He made the foyer just in time to see Scott carrying the Wagners’ luggage and Jean readying to take them to the airport. Mrs Wagner was still crying while Mr Wagner was giving Charles a piece of his mind.

Logan strode forward, pushing his way between Mr Wagner and Charles. “That’s enough, bub. You got somethin’ to say, say it to me. The Doc here isn’t at fault in this. Ya wanna blame somebody, then blame me.”

Mr Wagner straightened, his chin coming up in defiance. “I have nothing to say to you. My son defies me because of you.”

“Your son defies you because yer bein’ unreasonable. Why can’t you get it through yer thick skull, I love Kurt? He loves me. He loves you too, but yer the one makin’ him choose, so yer the one who’s gonna lose.”

“How dare you?!” Mr Wagner’s hands balled into fists.

“I’m gettin’ real sick of people sayin’ that to me, bub.” Logan’s stance matched Mr Wagner’s.

“Logan.” Charles’s tone brooked no argument. “That’s enough. Please understand Mr and Mrs Wagner’s position. This revelation has come suddenly. Let them come to grips with this new knowledge and let their own consciences guide them in how they wish to deal with their son.”

Logan drew in a harsh breath and let his hands work loose. He stepped back, met Mr Wagner’s eyes and watched the man look away, turn and gather the rest of their belongings. He felt the rest of the household watching from doorways and from the stairs, silence, a weight on his soul.

When the door closed, a snarl of frustration ripped free from Logan, that frustration a helplessness he wasn’t used to dealing with. “Dammit!”

“Logan. Calm down...please. We knew this was likely to be the outcome. Let them have some time. I think they will come to understand even if they never fully approve.”

“For Kurt’s sake, I hope they can, at least, do that. The kid don’t deserve this, Charles. He’s been through enough lately without his parents turnin’ on him.”

“I know,” Charles replied, his hand coming to rest on Logan’s arm. “He’s strong, Logan. Kurt will deal with this as he’s dealt with everything else.”

“That don’t make it right and it don’t make it fair.”

“No one ever said that life was fair,” Charles stated. “We all have our trials to face in life.”

“But why does the elf have to face so many all in a year’s span?”

Charles looked away, his gaze unfocused. “Yes, indeed. Why? I wish I knew. I wish I understood, Logan. But there are so many things we have no answers for.”

“Yeah. Right. I’m gonna take a ride. Try ta shake off some of this frustration. I’ll be back later.”

“Where’s Kurt?”

“Probably up in his room. I think he needs some alone time...so I’m gonna give him some. I’m not sure he wants to look at me right now.”

“Logan,” Charles said in a chastising tone.

Logan offered Charles a lopsided grin. “Oh don’t worry. That won’t last. He just needs some space and I’ll give that to him. See ya later.”

“Be careful, Logan.”

With a wave, Logan said, “Always, Chuck.”
