The hand on her wrist felt cool and very non-furry. Kitty frowned, her eyes still closed tightly, and tried to pull away only to find the fingers gripping her loosely were stronger than she had first thought. "Hey," she groaned softly, her mouth feeling dry and cottony. "Leggo." She pulled again, weakly, and decided to open one eye. She promptly closed it and hissed a breath between her teeth. "Not you again."
Doctor Beck quirked a brow. "You are a very curious girl." He released her wrist and moved around the end of the bed to look at her chart. Kitty had the distinct feeling he did not mean curious as inquisitive. "Have you experienced hallucinations other than this deity a year ago?"
She opened both eyes now, squinting at the too-bright infirmary lights. Doctor Beck was flipping through her chart with a nearly amused expression on his face. "Put that down!" she snapped creakily. "That's mine!"
"Actually," he said detachedly, "it's Doctor McCoy's." He raised an eyebrow over the top of the chart at her. "I'm surprised insurance will even cover you..."
Kitty bit her tongue, literally and figuratively, as she steamed gently. When she trusted herself not to make a rude comment, she asked, "Where is Beast anyway?". She laboriously pushed herself up onto her elbows, her skin aching as if she had a terrible sunburn and her joints cracking in protest. "Why are you even here?"
Doctor Beck closed her chart and replaced it in the holder with nary a glance up at her. "I think the answer to that will come much later for you, Aikaterine." He flicked his glance up to her, his face carefully blank. "Rather... Kitty."
She did not like that he knew her real name. She knew for a fact that it was not on her chart-in fact, the chart bore a numerical code to prevent snooping by name. "Why are you here?" she repeated, narrowing her eyes. "Didn't you and your little friends screw things up bad enough for us?"
Doctor Beck vented a mirthless laugh. "You don't begin to know 'bad'," he informed her blandly. "Your friend is already awake. He shows no ill effects from whatever it was that caused the two of you to faint."
Beast chose that moment to enter through his office, pausing as he took I the scene. "Jamie is waiting for you in there," he finally said, giving the other doctor a curious glance. Doctor Beck nodded and, turning his back on Kitty, disappeared in to Beast's office. When they were alone, the blue mutant asked her, "So...how did you find Doctor Beck?"
"I found him when he grabbed my wrist," she muttered, willfully misunderstanding him. She held still as Beast felt the glands in her neck then checked her pulse. He listened to her heart beat and, as the cold disc of the stethoscope was pressed against her chest, she said, "He wouldn't say why he was here...After all the stuff that's his fault, why doesn't the Professor make him leave? And why is he talking to Jamie?" She knew she was pouting but could not help it. She made a conscious effort to not poke her lower lip out.
Beast pulled away and gave her a look that was almost disproving. "Kitty, I don't chastise you often but listen to me and listen to me well. Some things are none of your business. For now, this is one of them."
Kitty was still agape when Kurt came in as Beast returned to his office. "Was?" he asked, concerned to see her stunned expression. He hurried to her and took her hand. "Are you ill, liebes?" His brow was furrowed in concern as he squeezed her hand and brushed a quick kiss across the knuckles. "Should I get Beast back in here?"
"No," she said suddenly, quickly. She squeezed his hand in return and pulled him closer for another kiss, this time on the lips. "Kurt, what happened in the rec room?" she asked as they parted for breath. "It was that girl, wasn't it?"
"Ja," he nodded. "I know it was. Beast wouldn't listen to me when I told him that but I know..." He shook his head and sighed, sitting on the edge of the bed. "It was like..." He sighed and shook his head again. "I can't explain it."
Kitty closed her eyes for a moment before saying, "Pure bliss. That's what she did to me in the hall outside the Danger Room. Touched me and it was like I was flooded with happiness and...and..." She blushed and avoided his eyes. "Like ten times the best orgasm ever without the actual orgasm bit."
Kurt cleared his throat and looked away quickly for a moment. "I...um...well...speak for yourself," he muttered. He could not quite meet Kitty's eyes as she gasped in startlement. He had a feeling she would have giggled had things not been verging on the dire.
Kitty squeezed his hand again and moved to get out of the bed. "I guess we're good to leave. If he says we're fine and all..." She shrugged, glancing to the office door. "Doctor Beck is in there with Jamie and Beast..." she trailed off, turning wide eyes to Kurt's. "Should we wait?"
Kurt shifted uncomfortably. He did not relish the idea of lingering around Doctor Beck if he could avoid it at all. Something about the man, he decided, just did not sit well with him. He was put in mind of a Rom trickster who worked the festivals with the circus troupes; he would perform slight of hand for the onlookers while picking their pockets. It was shameful, the other Rom had chided. It makes us look like common crooks, Kurt's own mother had railed. Ah, the trickster had finally smiled, we do what we have to so we can survive. "I don't think we should wait, nein," he finally said. He helped Kitty to her feet and slid his arms around her waist, her arms coming up around his neck. "Hungry?"
"A little..."
"Kitchen it is then..." A moment later, they were in the aforementioned room and in the midst of a brawl. "Hey!" Kurt ducked a thrown shoe, pulling Kitty down with him. "Was soll das1?"
"He," Banshee snarled, brandishing a wooden spoon, "defiled my daughter!"
"I am so dead," Sam groaned.
1 What was that?
