Chapter Fourteen

A/N: Long chapter! Also the last one! First major project I’ve ever finished! Applause for me!! YAY!!!!

They actually had to wake up the next morning. Logan had set his alarm for Scott the night before, and Scott was definitely not happy when it went off.

Groaning, he slammed it off and pulled the covers back over his head. Logan, however, was not going to let him off easy.

“C’mon, darlin’, time to wake up!”

“Ten more minutes. . .” Scott mumbled.

“No more ten minutes,” Logan told him. “You have classes today.”

“Since when do you care?”

“Since we got together. Now get your lazy ass up, Fearless Leader. Wouldn’t want to disappoint all those wonderful children waiting for their morning lessons, now would ya?”

“Yes I would.”

“Up ya get!” Logan physically lifted Scott up and set him on his feet, giving him a gentle shove in the direction of the shower.

Scott made his way that way, and Logan went for coffee. Scott just wasn’t Scott without his daily dose of caffeine.

Scott got out of the shower, dried off, pulled on jeans, and went back to bed. Logan wasn’t here to yell at him.

Logan got back to the room he was now sharing with Scott and shook his head. The kid had to try and go back to sleep.

Scott groaned when Logan shook him awake again. He cheered up considerably when Logan handed him a steaming hot cup o’ joe. After about ten minutes, Scott was himself again.

“Thanks, love,” he said to Logan. “I really needed that.”

Logan sat next to Scott and slid an arm around him. “Hey, what’re lovers for?”

Scott smiled. “A lot. I gotta go, get ready for classes.”

Logan grinned. “Funny, not fifteen minutes ago you saying something along the lines of, ‘Screw classes, I’m goin’ back to bed.’”

“That was fifteen minutes ago. I’m awake now.”

“Oh. Damn.”

Scott kissed his cheek. “Don’t worry. We have plenty of time. Why don’t you go catch up on some hours in the Danger Room while I teach?”

“Not a bad idea, Cyke. Might take ya up on that.”

“Cool. See ya later.” Scott gave Logan a quick kiss before he left.

Logan stayed in their room for about ten minutes, then went off to take on Scott’s suggestion.

Scott finished the day out, tired, but happy. He lived for this, and for Logan. A slight smile touched his lips as he thought of his lover.

Scott busybusy getting his things together, so he didn’t notice the door open and close quietly, didn’t notice the woman sneaking up behind him. Until, of course, it was too late.

Scott turned around, pencil and papers in hand, ready to leave, when he smacked right into Jean.

“Jeez, Jean, you scared me. What’s up?”

“Logan.”

“Christ, Jean, we’ve been over this. It wasn’t working between you and me, and it works between Logan and me. You knew this was gonna happen, I saw it in your head. You knew me and him clicked. You knew we didn’t.”

“So fucking what? I never wanted you to leave me!”

“It was your fault Jean.”

“Oh, yeah pin the blame on me!”

, be, because it was. You were the one who demanded change from me. You were the one who kept screaming night after night. It was killing me, Jean. I couldn’t take it.”

“You think that that won’t happen with Logan?”

“It won’t. We’re just enough alike and just enough different. You and I were too alike.”

“I love you.”

“No you don’t. You wouldn’t have screamed if you did. We’re through, okay. Leave it alone. It’s done and over. You have someone new. So do I. I don’t want to break this.” He turned to leave.

The lock slammed into place. It wouldn’t budge when he tried to move it. He felt a jolt of fear in his stomach, but didn’t show it at all when he turned to face her.

“Let me out, Jean. I have things to do.”

“What, going to fuck your lover? I’d rather you in here.”

“No, I have papers to grade, the Danger Room session for the younger students to oversee, bills to have a look at, paperwork to fill out, and others. Let me out.”

“No.”

“Jean. . .”

“What, Scott? You expect me to do your bidding?”

“No, I expect you to respect my wishes. This isn’t getting you anywhere.”

“Fine. Then let’s get somewhere.”

It all happened so fast that Scott could never quite remember how he wound up tied in the chair. It was something of a surprise, though.

“Let’s have some fun, shall we?”

He couldn’t help it, bound as he was, he was scared. He was remembering . . . He screamed for Logan.

“He can’t hear you, love, he’s still in the Danger Room.”

“Jean stop this, please. . .”

“Wh

“You don’t know what you’re doing.”

“I know exactly what I’m doing.”

“You’re fucking with my head, Jean!” Scott screamed at her.

“Oh?” Her voice crackled with power. “Am I really? What do you think you did?”

Scott was thrown back into his past, his painful past. He didn’t even try to stop the tears.

Jean stared at him. Had she done that? She undid the ropes binding him, and unlatched the door. “I’m sorry, Scott,” she whispered. “I. . .I’m sorry. I never meant. . .”

Scott knelt on the ground, rocking, face buried in his hands. Jean, not knowing what to do, touched his shoulder and left.

Scott took time to get himself together. He wiped his eyes, ashamed at his reaction. Sure, his father had been an asshole. Yeah, that scene had reminded him. . .but still. He was an adult, ought to be able to handle things.

He got his things together and left the classroom, knowing he wouldn’t ever be able to enter it without shivers again.

He met up with Logan outside, in the bright sunshine. It washed the rest of his fear away, and they talked as Scott finished up his work.

That night, they lay curled up in each other’s arms.

“So when’re you gonna tell me?”

“Tell you what?”

“Your story. You know mine.”

Scott laughed. “Someday, Logan. When I’m ready. It’s. . .kinda dark.”

“Okay. Well, whenever. I mean, we’ve got time, right?”

“Yeah. We’ve got time. Lots of it.”

Logan pulled Scoloseloser. Both reflected that, even through all that they had suffered, this thing that was new to them was something very special.

They drifted off to sleep, dreaming of the future, which had never looked brighter for either.
