In An Instant
It was a typical battle, just like any they had fought before, routine really. Rogue thought nothing of it as she raced through the alleyways in this strange labyrinth. Her mind was on the mission, but something about this day was distracting her, something she couldn't put a finger on. Something about this battle was different,
She put those thoughts out of her mind as she rounded the next corner. She suddenly stopped and looked up. There stood a handsome stranger, tall, dark hair with the oddest eyes she had ever seen. His pupils were as dark as night, and embedded upon them were red glowing spheres that seem to pierce right through her. She stood there mesmerized, just staring into them. Suddenly, the battle no longer mattered,. It had faded from her mind, and she saw only him. His eyes bore into her, soaking up all her sensibilities, paralyzed by some unseen force. What was wrong with her? She should be fighting, running, trying to find a safe place to hide, not out in the open where she was vulnerable, but her feet were unmoving. Something was holding in that spot. Suddenly he came closer, until they were almost touching. She never felt more content than in that moment, that instant, which all it was, just one moment. She felt something in her hand. It was cool and crisp. She didn't even look down to see what it was. Her eyes were too fixed on him, but in that same instant his was gone. He ran down a nearby corner leaving her standing there. She felt a hotness, and she was finally released from her trance. She looked down, and to her horror she was holding a glowing card. She gasped and tried to extinguish it, but she couldn't release it fast enough and it exploded throwing her back against a nearby wall. The last thing she remembered seeing was that stranger standing over her. Her eyes grew heavy and her lips closed. She wondered if they would ever open again as everything faded to black.
