Hero of War

Warning: Lots and lots of angst, blood and gore. If people like this enough there will be some nice loving stuff at the end! Please let me know what ya'll think!

Logan looked around him, the sight deplorable and sad, his memory making his guts clench with fear, regret and deep, deep sadness. It was a war zone...though no typical war zone. This had once been his home. He had lived here with people he had not only called team mates but family as well.

Frantically, he searched for survivors, seeing only singed bodies, their facial expression forever frozen in one of terror, shock and pain. The stench of their charred flesh nauseating. Almost a half hour later, he'd nearly given up hope, believing he was the only one left...the last survivor.

Sliding down a wall in shock, he looked up, his eyes full of pain and rage, taking a deep, painful breath as his lungs had not completely healed yet from the burning smoke that he'd inhaled when he'd run out the doors, unsure of where Remy had been.

It had been mere weeks since the two of them had admitted their feelings for one another and they'd been sleeping together for the past few nights.

He felt as if something was going to happen...something seriously pricking at his gut, but he'd ignored it, pushing it away. It was probably just some annoying fear that Remy would leave him and the team as he'd done many times before...without warning or explanation.

But now he wished that he hadn't pushed it away. If he hadn't maybe his family would be alive, he thought before letting out a sharp scream as the tears that he'd been forcing back finally fell down his face.

Remy looked down at his sleeping lover. He could feel the fear rolling off of him, see the trembling of the muscles and the sheen of sweat building on his skin, making it slick.

Then the yell and tears came. Frowning slightly, he reached over and touched him gently, overwhelmed with the fear he felt coming off of his lover like waves. He knew Logan was having a nightmare, but as much fear that Logan was feeling, he wasn't so sure Logan knew.

The fear sickened him as yet another emotion crashed against him. Sadness...loneliness. His head swam and throbbed as he tried to fight back the emotions, feeling nauseated at the intensity of the feelings.

"Logan," he whispered, gently cupping his lover's face. "Logan, cher, wake up...s'just a nightmare. Remy's here," he cooed, before gently raking his fingertips through the soft hair. It was interesting, he thought for just a slight moment...the contrast between the sight and touch of the feral's hair. From looking at it, you would think that Logan's hair would be coarse and rough...not smooth and soft.

Thankfully, Logan's claws weren't out as he slept, even through this violent dream. Still, at this moment, he sincerely wished that he were a telepath like Charles, instead of simply being an empath. All he could do was push feelings of calm and love towards him.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Logan heared a whisper, thinking it had just been a figment of his imagination. This couldn't be real, he thought as he wiped the tears away in fury. But something stood out amongst the stench of burned flesh. Something that made his heart leap as he got up. Remy...his Remy was still alive.

As he made his way towards the whisper, imagining that he felt his lover gently carressing him, running his slim fingers through his hair, kissing him. He shivered slightly as he thought of it, sifting through a sea of bodies, fighting desperatly to find the one he loved.

He finally heard the voice become louder as he neared the medlab. Pulling on the door, he noted it was stuck. He wouldn't be denied however and beat on it with his fists, not caring that they bled, until at last the door gave way and he stepped through. He could smell Remy and that was all he needed to know.

But as he stepped through, something odd happened. The scene changed. He was no longer at the mansion...no longer was he seeing the dead bodies of his family, but of ghosts from long ago.
