Wings for Marie
Disclaimer: Seen the movie yet? No? THEN DON'T READ!!! It's that simple. On the other hand, if you've seen the movie, and the thought of Colossus and Rogue together just makes you get a delicious tingle in your shimmies, then read on! I'm still an avid Gambit/Rogue shipper, but since the former didn't make it into the movie . . . well . . . we can take the next best thing :-) Takes place shortly after X-men 3.

Wings For Marie
By: Joshin Yasha (joshinyasha@yahoo.com)
The walls of the old mansion shuddered to the roll of the thunder and the walls flashed occasionally from the spurts of lightening in the distance. The rain poured in rivulets outside, waves shimmering down the glass panes until they swelled on the windowsill and cascaded over the edge to meet the already water-swollen garden below. Marie shivered in the seat near the window in the kitchen, feet curled under her body in an attempt to keep warm beneath the thin blanket.
She had found it hard to keep warm since she had experienced It. 'It' was what all pro-Mutants and now-humans had begun calling the Cure in passing conversations. At least, that's how things had been whispered throughout the mansion in the weeks following the death of three beloved friends. To Marie's knowledge, she had been the only one to leave the grounds in pursuit of It, a decision she now regretted. Bobby had said it flowery, but she knew the jest of what he meant: he had loved her as a mutant, and now that Marie was human and mundane, the Iceman had sought a new lover in the form of Shadowcat.
Silently weeping to herself, Marie felt herself truly alone again, a feeling she had not experienced since her powers had first surfaced and caused her to flee home. Home, another thing she could never go back to. Storm had tried to help, placing the long distance call to Marie's parents, attempting to see if they would have her back, but they wanted nothing to do with their ill-begotten progeny. In tears Marie had fled the office alcove, sprinting past other students and fell into the comforts of her bedroom dormitory.
But now, even the soft mattress, the warm sheets, and the soft yet firm pillows offered her no comfort in the thunderstorm. Ironic, Marie thought, that the storm outside reflected her mix of emotions on the inside. She was, in her view, a horribly placed weed in the middle of a flowering garden of the Xavier school.
"Can't sleep?" she turned her pale face upon him, the massive form of Colossus standing in the doorway, barely clothed with muscle rippling into more muscle. Marie pulled the sheet to her face, hiding her tear-soaked cheeks behind the soft blue colour of the fabric. Even now she was crying, hoping and praying that what little light in the room would not reveal her sin. Colossus said, "Don't worry, I couldn't sleep either," while taking a cherry flavoured soda from the refrigerator.
"Nights like this remind me of home," he ruminated before taking a long sip of soda, neck muscles tightening and moving back and forth as the liquid made its way into his body.
Marie caught herself staring, face once again hiding beneath the sheet. But now, however, she was curious. "What's your home like?" her voice was tired, shaking with the chill throughout her body and her deep regret.
Colossus took a moment to pause, blue eyes unfocused as the vision formed in his head. "Farmland, miles and miles of it. You could smell the storms before you'd see the clouds coming. I used to love to sit outside just to watch the rain fall on the crops." He laughed for a minute, shoulders rising and falling with the effort to keep his voice low. "'Course, then I got struck by lightening when I made the mistake of changing during a storm. Never do that again."
She grinned beneath the blanket, then remembered she was cold and pulled it even tighter. "Sounds like a beautiful place."
"It is," he finished his drink, threw the empty bottle away, and then took the seat opposite her on the other side of the window. "What's your home like, Rogue?"
"It's just Marie, now," she muttered, eyes flicking back out the window. Marie forced the tears back, chills running through her as lightening flashed in the distance. "My home was crowded, cousins, aunts, uncles, always running in and out of the house every week . . . My parents didn't like the fact that I was a mutant, so I ran away."
"If you don't mind me asking," Colossus tilted his head to the side, face serious and showing concern, "why'd you do It?"
Her eyes welled with new tears, and Marie caught herself shaking in the chill of the night again. "I thought I was doing it so I could touch people without risking killing them. I did it . . . for a stupid reason . . . I just wish I wouldn't have done it now. I could have stopped Jean before she . . ."
"Coulda, woulda, shoulda," he shrugged, "hindsight's twenty-twenty, and you have no idea what the Phoenix would have done to you if you'd tried to leech her powers. She could have killed you just as easily as she . . ." Colossus swallowed hard, trying to shake the memory from his mind. He decided a change of subject was in order, "You still cold?"
Marie nodded, wrapping the sheet tighter around her body. She didn't need to say anything because Colossus already understood. The coldness she felt could not be solved by simply trying to keep warm, it was the lack of her mutancy that now made her tremble. Rumor had spread that mutants who had undergone It were believing that they had killed a piece of themselves. Could Rogue be suffering the same thing, he wondered?
Surprise took her when Colossus had moved next to her, wrapped his strong arms around her, and pulled her close. Marie's face flushed of all colour and her breath caught in her throat when she realized just how firm the length of his body was when pressed against her. "Perhaps we can keep one another warm tonight?" he inquired, gaze fixated towards the growing storm.
Marie tried to focus on any and everything else in the room, the foreign sense of a body, let alone a male body, pressed against her caused things to tighten low in her body. "I . . . I think we can," she finally managed, only then did she bury her body deeper into the line of Colossus's, focused solely on trying to hold on to the heat he caused within her.
