Valentine's Day

This is my first fanfiction. Yes, that’s right, I wrote it all by my lonesome. The characters are not mine and I am not making any money off of this sad fantasy, and although this is my first story, if any of you readers out there should feel the need to *ahem* “barrow” it without my permission, I have only four words of warning for you: Vengeance...will...be...MINE. Now with that being said...please enjoy this delectable smorgasbord I have slaved to birth forth from my demented mind.

Chapter1: Hungry Eyes

Kitty sighed dramatically as she stared at herself in the vanity mirror. It was late Friday night and she had the whole mansion suite she usually shared with Rogue all to herself. She was not letting the opportunity go to waste.

The balcony doors were open but modestly covered by the white silk curtains that stirred seductively with the cool breeze, and the only illumination in the room was provided by the many scented candles placed on various shelves and tables. Soft classical music was turned down low in the background, and a vase of blood-red roses graced the glass-topped table set for two in front of the balcony. A bottle of contraband wine chilled in a bucket of ice. It was Valentine’s Day, and Kitty Pryde was all alone.

Looking at herself in the mirror, she couldn’t help but wonder why.
“Don’t they think I’m attractive?” she whispered aloud. She lifted her auburn hair from her shoulders and slowly let it fall back into place, watching the tiny curls she had spent an hour creating bounce and settle very nicely around her pixie-like face. Her make-up was perfect; large sapphire eyes framed by long black lashes, firm rosy cheeks lightly dusted with glitter, and large pouty lips that sparkled with pink gloss. Her flesh was rosy porcelain and blemish free, and she could find no flaw in her figure, except maybe that she was slightly more rounded whereas all the other girls in the institute tended to be flat and muscle-y.

Angrily she stood and went to stand in front of the full length mirror. She let the white, transparent robe fall, and slipped the spaghetti-strapped pink nightgown off her shoulders, watching as it pooled at her feet.

Now completely naked, she scrutinized the body before her: Long slender neck, round narrow shoulders; firm, round breasts (slightly smaller than she thought they should be);slender arms with delicate hands and fingers; narrow waist line leading to flared hips; rounded tummy with a tiny bellybutton; small thatch of soft, golden curls and long, slender legs. She had matured into a very beautiful young woman, or, at least that’s what her friends told her.

“Like, what’s not to like?” she joked with her reflection. With no answer forthcoming she stomped her foot in frustration and crossed her arms to keep her breasts from bouncing. “Why doesn’t anyone want me? Even the Ice Queen has someone to be with tonight, dammit!”

The figure in the mirror wavered as her eyes filled with tears of confusion and loneliness. Her perfect lips quivered and threatened to let a cry escape them. Kitty bent and snatched the robe from the floor and quickly belted it around her hips. She strode away from the mirrors and slipped through the diaphanous curtains into the cool darkness of the balcony.

Sniffing back her tears, she waited for her eyes to adjust to the dark, then slowly made her way to the edge and gazed down at the vast mansion grounds. The fountains in the circle driveway splashed soothingly and the cicadas were performing their best. She breathed deeply the cold air and let herself relax. The scent of cherry blossoms from the orchards was strong tonight. Leaning on the marble ledge, she closed her eyes and let the wind play with her curls then sighed with delight as her belt came loose and the robe billowed out behind her. She moaned as she imagined the wind was really a secret lover’s caress and blissfully her sorrow was momentarily forgotten.

Unnoticed by Kitty, clinging to the shadows above her small balcony was a pair of glowing yellow eyes, drinking in the sight of her hungrily. Momentarily, the sorrow those eyes usually held was also blissfully forgotten.
