This story has been inspired by Anastasia’s song Left outside alone.

Chapter One.

Marie was lay across her bed on her stomach with her headphones on listening to her favourite CD that Jubilee had made her.
She thought back to the first time she had seen Logan in that grubby bar in Lachlan City. She had been lost without hope, then along Logan came.
She had believed in fairytales once over, she wasn’t sure now if they would ever come true.
Jean was dead, lost at Alkali Lake, saving everyone on the blackbird. Both Logan and Scott had felt her loss deeply, they had even called a truce of sorts which nobody felt would last.
Marie no longer lived in the fantasy world where Logan would come back and sweep her off her feet. That died when she saw his grief over the death of Jean. Bobby had finished with her as soon as they had got back to the mansion, the last kiss they had shared at his house had seen to that.
She was back where she had started, left on the outside alone.

Logan was confused. Hadn’t they lost Jean? He should be filled with guilt over her death, he wasn’t.
Instead all he could think about was Marie, how close he came to losing her when she got sucked out of the plane.
Why was he feeling like this?
He had told Jean he had loved her and at the time he was sure he meant it.
Not any more.
God, this was driving him nuts.
When she had sacrificed her life he had felt grief like no other for her but now he wasn’t so sure what it was he felt, damn but he was going nuts thinking about it all.
Finally giving it up as a bad job, he decided to get a beer, maybe six would do.
Frustrated beyond belief he went down to the garage for his hidden stash of beer.

Marie was crying softly in her room listening to the lyrics of the song, it hit a nerve with how she was feeling at that moment.

All my life I’ve been waiting
For you to bring a fairy tale my way
Been living in a fantasy without meaning
It’s not okay I don’t feel safe

I don't feel safe..
Ohhh..

Wiping at her face Marie swung her legs around and moved up the bed to rest her back on the headboard.
Shit, this wasn’t getting her anywhere fast, she had to stop feeling sorry for herself and figure out what it was she was going to do now.
Could she stay here?
Should she leave?
This was killing her inside.

Left broken empty in despair
Wanna breath can’t find air
Thought you were sent from up above
But you and me never had love
So much more I have to say
Help me find a way

That was so right, Logan never loved her, the Professor had told her it was just a silly crush she had on Logan, a bad case of hero worship he had called it.
Was he right?

And I wonder if you know
How it really feels
To be left outside alone
When it’s cold out here
Well maybe you should know
Just how it feels
To be left outside alone
To be left outside alone

Yes Logan knew how it felt to be an outsider, wasn’t he one still?
Her thoughts went round and round in her head as the tears continued to pour down her face.
She remembered the absolute terror of flying out of the plane and falling to her death, the thought of not telling Logan that she loved him a heavy weight on her heart.
Then bamf, Nightcrawler had caught her and teleported them both back onto the plane. There had been no mistaking the look of sick relief on Logan’s face when he had seen her ok in the blue mans arms.
What was that all about?

I tell ya..
All my life I’ve been waiting
for you to bring a fairytale my way
been living in a fantasy without meaning
It’s not okay I don’t feel safe
I need to pray

No, no one felt safe anymore, not since the soldiers had come and attacked. Not since Magneto had tried to double cross the Professor and certainly not since Jean was dead.

Why do you play me like a game?
Always someone else to blame
Careless, helpless little man
Someday you might understand
there’s not much more to say
But I hope you find a way

Marie tore the gloves off her hands frustrated beyond belief at her mutation.
Somebody had pulled a major joke with her on a grand scale, shit everybody else could control theirs, why could she?
The Professor had told her just that morning that their was no way that he could see for her to gain control, it was an impossibility not something anyone could help her with.
This was defiantly a sick joke.

Still I wonder if you know
How it really feels
To be left outside alone
When it’s cold out here
Well maybe you should know
Just how it feels
To be left outside alone
To be left outside alone

I tell ya..
All my life I’ve been waiting
For you to bring a fairytale my way
Been living in a fantasy without meaning
It’s not okay I don’t feel safe
I need to pray

Ohhh. Pray...
Ohh.. Heavenly father..
Save me.. Ohhhh..
Whoaooooaoooooo

Marie decided.
She would leave and tonight.

Down in the garage Logan was pissed at the fact someone had left the radio blaring.
The woman had a deep husky voice had was really belting out the lyrics.
As Logan reached his stash the words sank in and pulled him up short.

And I wonder if you know
How it really feels
To be left outside alone
When it’s cold out here
Well maybe you should know
Just how it feels
To be left outside alone
To be left outside alone

Snorting to himself, Logan shook his head.
Well yeah, he could safely say he knew how that felt!
Throwing his head back he drowned his beer in one go.

All my life I’ve been waiting
For you to bring a fairytale my way
Been living in a fantasy without meaning
It’s not okay I don’t feel safe
I need to pray...

The song finished. Looking over at the radio he frowned.
He had heard that song before but couldn’t remember where?
Shrugging he grabbed the rest of his beer and on the spur of the moment headed for Marie’s room.

Plz review an let me know if you like.
